By far, my favorite is Dave Matthews' "Christmas Song." Technically, you could listen to it all year around (and I do), because there isn't a mention of the word "Christmas" at all. Not that I don't love the traditional favorites, but I think this is probably the most emotionally genuine song ever to be connected with the holiday. I heard him sing it for the first time at a concert at Christmastime a few years back, and it literally brought tears to my eyes. And I'm not a particularly religious person.

Then again ... neither is Dave. ;)

ETA: The song, if anyone who isn't familiar with the song would care to hear it.

I'd say "Let it Snow" by Boyz II Men, and Luther Vandross' rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," because they both sound so...elegant to me.  As for something more upbeat, I would say "This Christmas," because of the lyrics and the beat, but I hate Donnie Hathaway's singing.  Chris Brown sucks for me too...but still, good song :P

I am not a traditional person, but my favorite Christmas song is "Winter Wonderland."  I like the melody.  Besides that, I prefer non-traditional songs: Mr. Grinch; Adam Sandler's Chanukah Song (not Christmas, but I play it anyway); and la piece de resistance: Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.
Gotta love when they sing about sending her presents back   I actually don't wait for Christmas to listen to Christmas music.  Whenever the mood strikes me, even in July :-P

Traditional - Once in Royal David's city, Oh Little Town of Bethlehem and Good King Wenceslas.

Non-traditional - I Wish Every Day Could be Like Christmas by Bon Jovi (there's a surprise, huh? LOL). Oh, and Six White Boomers...just because it's such a fun song (even if I can't stand Rolf Harris).

By far it would have to be "Christmas in Killarney" by Bing Crosby.  I don't have an Irish bone in my body, but we keep the White Christmas CD in the car all year round.  My husband loves Christmas music.  Even in July when it's 115 outside.

My five children love this song and know it by heart.  All seven of us sing along to it on road trips.  I smile everytime I hear it, because I am reminded that I have a great family who can have simple fun together.

That, and while they are singing it there are no fights or things being thrown about the car : )

I also love the hymn "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"

I love "Silver Bells", for the pretty melody, and because it was one of my grandmother's favorite songs. It was the first solo I ever performed. :)

There are so many songs I can't even list....I was in Christmas choirs from age 5, and I've even gone caroling with a classic song book (just like Dickens). But there are singers I'll listen to in a heartbeat with Christmas music, which has an extra advantage at making me cry. I probably own as many Christmas albums as I do the rest!

You guys have mentioned some great ones so far.

I like a lot of Christmas songs. The ones I think are cute and funny are "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", the Alvin and the Chipmunks christmas song "Christmas Don't Be Late" and the song "Dominick the Donkey."

I also always liked "Jingle Bell Rock", "Baby, It's Cold Outside", and "My Grown Up Christmas List."

What I think is the best traditional Christmas carol was always "Silent Night." I just always thought the melody and the lyrics were beautiful.

I have to second Dave Matthew's "Christmas Song." It is truly a beautiful song. But then again, it's a song by Dave.

So all of you who haven't heard it, go, follow the link UB posted.

I love Christmas; everything about it, (except the crowds at the store, which is why I buy everything online, Yeah eBay!); I love getting together with my family, and cuddling with my honey in front of the fire, I love snow, and I love Christmas Carols, which, to my husband's everlasting disgust, I will sing in the middle of summer.

I love the church-y hymns, like "O Come all Ye Faithful", especially the version by Sara Evans; it's very slow and beautiful, and I just love it.  I also love "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", "O Holy Night" - John Berry does a beautiful version of this one, and "Silent Night".

Contempary would have to be Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas"; that's a great song!!  Another particular favorite of mine is Judy Garland singing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", and Bing Crosby's version of "I'll be Home for Christmas".

I can't narrow it down to one, but my top 5 are:

1.  Carol of the Bells
2.  God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
3.  O Holy Night
4.  What Child Is This (yes I also love Greensleeves)
5.  O Little Town Of Bethlehem

I third "Christmas Song" by Dave Matthews, as I am one of his many fantics.

John Berry's "O Holy Night" is gorgeous! I cried the first time I heard it on the radio.

(Damn the L.A. area for taking away our country stations! :( )

It changes for me, really.  I just have a big soft spot for traditional Christmas music, since it was always a big part of my family gatherings and the preparation for those gatherings.  (Nothing says Christmas to me more than carols playing while cookies bake in the oven.  Except for maybe oblatky and honey, but that's another story.)

Right now my favorite is O Holy Night/Cantique de Noel.  I also adore Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Angels We Have Heard On High (mostly the "Gloria" bits).  Silent Night is another favorite, and Away In a Manger was my little sister's lullaby so I have a real attachment to it.

I sing All I Want For Xmas by Mariah Carey ALL year long! hehe and I love singing Carol of the Bells! It's so fun! *especially when you're a soprano and have the melody, lol*

I can never forget the words to Carol of the Bells.  I'm also a soprano and have been in a chorus group for about 7 years, singing that song every single year.  So yeah, I'll never forget it.  I'm listening to Christmas music right now, it's hard for me to really pick any favorites.

When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.

No question my favorite is Barry Gordon's "I'm Getting Nuttin' For Christmas" My sister hates it, and I sing it all the time in December hehe.

Hee, yay, more soprano carolers! We worked on Carol of the Bells so much, that my director let me run practices my senior year when she had administrative stuff to take care of. I used to know all 4 parts at one time, but it's been so long.....It's a great song that can be done with or without backing music. I think it's even one of the songs we recorded that year. :)

Another pretty one is "I Wonder as I Wander".

Yeah, I got so sick of singing that song so much, but I still don't mind hearing it.  I love Jewel's version of "I Wonder as I Wander."

Ooo.  I forgot about Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas."  I love that one.  So catchy.  "Blue Christmas," Elvis or Harry Connick.  Done "Carol of the Bells," too, both melody and the ding-dongs :-)

Well... doing "ding-dongs" can be fun too.... *dirty wink*

Oooh ... I love holiday songs!

My favorite is Kay Starr's The Man With the Bag. I also love Guster's Donde Esta Santa and Barenaked Ladies/Sarah MacLachlan's God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

I gotta show love for the Alvin and the Chipmunks songs! Considering we have one on the cd at Gap and the teenage girl I was in the fitting room with was saying how annoying the song was. The brat, she's just too young to have watched them and got hooked. I told her, its one of my first memories, my daddy taking me to the store for my third bday to buy the dolls ^.^ Of course, I'm going Friday to see the movie come hell or high water!

I love all Christmas songs. But my recent favorites this year have been Relient K's "12 Days of Christmas" and Third Day's "Angels We Have Heard on High". My favorite Christmas albums are Barry Manilow's "Because It's Christmas" and the soundtrack for "A Charlie Brown Christmas". I also like the Christmas albums Mannheim Steamroller release every year. They're very cool instrumental versions of classic Christmas songs.
