SMG-Prinze/JM

I was just wondering?  Were they ever friends? SMG just does not give off the vibe of being sociable.

Dec 28 2007 03:00 pm   #2SpikesKatMac

Don't know if she's sociable or not (you're right, she doesn't give off that vibe) but I do know I've read/seen in various interviews that JM considered her a little sister; Joss has also said that the entire cast would gather at his house on Sundays to have Shakesphere readings, so they might have been friendly.  JM has also said that since the ending of the show, he doesn't see much of the cast, so you can draw your own conclusions.

I loved SMG as Buffy, and have followed her movie career; she's a very talented actress, but I don't think she's the type of person I'd want to hang out with, and I'll tell you why.  Did you ever notice that in the extras on the Buffy DVD's, there's very little of SMG, and nothing of her at all in the bloopers?   I always thought that shows a lack of humility; not wanting to share your mistakes with your audience... I've found that a lot of the times, the "big star" doesn't appear in the blooper reels, like they're too good to be bad...I don't believe she attends the fan conventions, either which shows a lack of appreciation for the fans.  Without the fans, you're nothing.  JM and others all seem to grasp this concept.

From what I hear, she wasn't really friends with anyone on set.  She wasn't at the wrap up for the series' ending, I don't think any of the cast members attended her wedding, and she does not seem to be fan friendly, at least, that' what I gather from her pissed Grudge fans.  She was supposed to have attended something, and copped out at the last minute.  Not sure what, though.

As for her lack of bloopers, well, that's because she's "old Hollywood," and rarely had any mistakes (so I hear).  She was always on time, knew her lines...I can't remember who said that--it may have been Joss, or James, but someone said something close to that effect.

I've heard that her work ethic is second to none; she's not one of the typical Hollywood "starlets" that you read about; just the fact that she's never in the tabloids shows that she's an actress of a different color; but I still find it strange that she never appeared in any of the blooper reels.  I mean, in 7 years of filming, there wasn't one scene where her tongue got twisted, or she got giggling at somebody else's mistake, or anything like that?   The way I figure it, the actors have to give their permission for their bloopers to be shown like that, and she wouldn't give it.

I absolutely love Emma Caulfield's blooper scenes, where she keeps flubbing the lines and going "Whore!"  LOL!

Honestly...I don't think I've looked at all the bloopers.  Where can I find Emma's?  Does James or Tony Head have any?

I mean, on which season can I find them on :P

Ummm...I think they're on the Special Features of Season 6 or 7; but here's a couple of examples on Youtube; and I stand corrected, in this one, there's a couple of SMG bloopers; best ones are with JM behind Doublemeat.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWouLv5FmPg&feature=related

These are cute too:

I couldn't find one where EC is saying her little catch-phrase; but it is definitely on the SF of either the S6 or S7 disks.  It just reminds me of the scene when she's a vengeance demon at the Bronze, and the gang walk in and she's like "Oh, penis!"

Re: SMG's interactions with the cast - James has said (a long time ago) in interviews that she was extremely nice to him and Juliet when they first guested on the series - seeing to it that they had chairs, etc. He was full of praise for her concern for the welfare of others on the set - supposedly because someone was so nasty to her when she was on the soap and she never wanted to make anyone feel that way on her set.

When he had joined the show, he said that she told him "I don't take my work home with me" meaning that she didn't socialize with her co-workers.  He said he agreed with her that was the way to go, but then they ended up as friends anyway. (Whatever that means)  She did not participate in the Sundays with Shakespeare at Joss's to the best of my knowledge.  (These two bits of info are from very early interviews that James gave somewhere)

When I had the opportunity to ask my question back in 2005 at the con, I asked JM if he had remained close with Joss or any of the other people who participated in those Sunday afternoon things and he said that those people reminded him of bad time in his life and he preferred not to.  He didn't elaborate, so have no idea if it was because of the season VI storyline, Joss himself, or something else.  I don't know who else did the Sunday things either, but I'm pretty sure that it wasn't "everybody". It was a mixed group from Buffy and Angel and probably included only those who were interested in spending their weekends doing something like that, or perhaps only those who were invited by Joss.

There are SMG "bloopers" on some dailies. Have no idea if she gave permission for their use or not.  Mostly, it's her laughing because of something they're doing that goes wrong (like falling down during the DP scenes) or getting dizzy after repeated takes of the scene of Spike pulling her down for a kiss in "Smashed".  None of them involve her messing up her lines and if they are from the dailies, she may not have had any control over their finding their way to You Tube.  I'm sure that actors do have to give permission for their takes to go into a blooper reel.

Hey Slayme, it's so cool you had a chance to see and speak to JM; I'd give a kidney to have that chance.  Probably.  Or maybe another less completely vital organ.  I got an appendix that's just sitting around; what'll somebody give me for that???

I thought that all of the cast members, at one time or another, got together for the readings; I thought that was how the musical sort of came into being, b/c at one point, instead of just doing the readings, they started doing sing alongs or something, and Joss realized just how talented his crew was???  Or am I completely out to lunch on this one?

She doesn't like how she looks when she laughs, that's one of the reasons. Writers and cast members have mentioned that before. They also always say that Sarah looks funny when she runs, so that's why the close-ups if she's supposed to be doing it.

None of the cast members were reported to be at her wedding or reception. I assume they weren't invited.

I guess she's someone that compartmentalizes her life - these are work friends, these are home friends, these are high school friends, etc......I have always noticed that she comes off with an air of being untouchable. The only fan things I've seen her at are Comic-Con appearances, and that's because the stars are still seperated from the fans - no autographs or photo sessions.

I couldn't do that, personally....I either get good with people, or I'm not. I can't do that "I only like you *here*" thing of sticking people in boxes. If I like you, you're going to be part of my life unless there's a reason I can't trust you.

SKM - I think the group gatherings went on long enough that just about everybody went at least a few times. Most of them have mentioned those, so I think most did from both shows. Just maybe not Sarah.

Hey, SpikesKatMac - well, I had made such an ass of myself at the photo op, that I needed to do something to feel less like a dork. So I asked a semi-intelligent question (instead of the rather obvious, and overdone, will you marry me? lol)  The next time I was in a position to do something like that, I couldn't think of anything worth trying to get to the mic for.  Still went brain-dead at the photo-op, though. *sigh* Should just give it up - the man turns my brain to mush. LOL

Slayme,  You made an ass out of yourself at the photo op???  I sense a story here...

Listen, just seeing pictures of the guy make me shriek like a 12 year old with a new edition of "TeenBeat", so I can't even imagine how I'd act if I saw him in person; probably total, complete spaz.  I'm of Irish heritage, and I like to joke how I have that "fair Irish complexion"; my problem is, if I'm the least bit excited, embarrassed or hysterical (or drunk,) I get red in the face.  And I mean red.  Blood red.  Scarlet.  And unfortunately, it's not a total red; I go blotchy; picture Bozo the Clown, and that's how I'd look.  Imagine that photo op!

And do people actually ask that question????

SpikesKatMac--well, first thanks for the links :)  As for people really asking that question or not, well, when I went to his album release party, someone pointed out to me one person there who actually deluded herself into thinking he was her boyfriend, and announced herself as such.  It was weird.  So yeah, I'm sure at least a few people asked him that :P

Actually, SKM, what we heard asked (with all apparent sincerity) at the first semi-private (gold badge only or something like that) Q and A was "will you make mad, passionate love to me?"  Of course, the asker was a companion of "crazy purple lady" (don't ask), so her sanity is suspect. LOL  James was cool, he said that he preferred to get to know women before he did that. LOL  Definitely got the impression that it happens all the time.  I understand there is one con that he refuses to do ever again because the chairwoman parked herself in his room and refused to leave.  I'm sure that sort of thing happens to him all the time. Most fans are very respectful, but there are always those who are delusional or incredibly pushy and I think they make life difficult for the rest of us.  It makes him less inclined to mingle with the fans than he was when he first started doing cons.  He's also more accessible in other countries, for  some reason.  Maybe it's just American women who are too pushy?

supposedly because someone was so nasty to her when she was on the soap and she never wanted to make anyone feel that way on her set.

That was Susan Lucci.  Apparently, she didn't react well to the fact that a teenaged girl came onto her show, was a better actress, and won an Emmy on her first nomination when Susan herself had to wait, like, 17 nominations to get a win :-P

I can't even imagine how I'd act if I saw him in person

As for the women who loose it and ask for his hand in marriage or for him to disrobe, etc., I could see how one would loose all sense of decorum in his presence, but I wish they wouldn't ruin it to the rest of us.  Of course, we're all THINKING it, but we need to make him comfortable enough so that we still get to drool in person :-P

IB, I'm sensing you either got to see our beloved in person, or you have a really good imagination.  :-P  Never mind, I've read your stuff, I know you've got a good imagination.  But still, soooo jealous of both you and Slayme!

I'll never get a chance to see him unless I win the lotto, and it makes me cry :-(    And if he stops doing cons & appearances before I win said lotto, b/c the whack-jobs and the ass-hats can't keep their dumb comments to themselves, I'll be all kinds of pissed!

Slayme, I know you said don't ask, but.....crazy purple lady????  WTF?

Dec 29 2007 03:03 am   #17slaymesoftly

LOL - okay, here's the sad story of me and my first con; and the interesting parties I saw there.

First "crazy purple plaid lady" - first heard about her from the BSV tag where people who had gone to an earlier con (in Houston, maybe?) had noted this weirdly dressed and behaving fan who was the talk of the con (and may have been asked to leave - that I don't know/remember very well). Long story short - the woman in question apparently follows JM around and makes an ass of herself every time. She claims to be his girlfriend, to be carrying his baby (unlikely, I think she's almost as old as I am), etc. etc. She always asks inappropriate questions - often enough that JM apparently knows her first name (actually, I imagine he knows both her first and last names and has them on a restraining order. lol) and will chide her for asking a question that he has answered before. Considering her behavior, he was amazingly patient with her when I saw them.  Anyway, due to the previously mentioned discussions on the tag, I realized who she was almost immediately - and her behavior at that con didn't disappoint. Fortunately, I've blocked much of it from my mind. LOL

I don't think she was at the one in NJ this past summer, so maybe she's gone off to harass someone else.

My story is that at my first con, I ended up having purchased two photos - thinking I would get two chances to talk to JM. However, they zip you in and out pretty quickly.  My intention was to be all cool and understanding and to say that the pose could be whatever he wanted as I was sure he was getting tired of hugging total strangers. But, of course, I really wanted a hug. lol.  Anyway, I held out my hand and got my "hello, I'm Patti" out and he grabbed me, pulled me to his side, and click! the first picture had been taken before I had a chance to say or do anything.  Panic time!  I blurted out - "I've got another picture and I want you wrapped around me like a boa constrictor" (smooth, huh?)  Which he did, bless his heart.  It was a wonderful hug (and he smells good), but over quickly and we exchanged "thank yous" and that was it.  Then I realized what I had said and groaned for the rest of the day. God punished me, though. That photo looks like my face has been caught in an elevator door, I'm smashed up against JM's face so tightly.  It's godawful!  I tried to apologize at the autograph session, but he said he didn't remember that I said anything "naughty" and I didn't get time to explain. Turns out, someone had groped him during the photo session, so even if he did take offense at my pushy demand for a tight hug, it had probably faded into a minor thing by that time. LOL (It's all relative, isn't it?)

The next con, I was so worried about saying something stupid that I don't think I said anything.  Totally mute. Equally lame, but at least not rude.  He was probably wondering why this stupid woman paid for a picture if she wasn't going to take the opportunity to speak with him. LOL  Not crazy about that picture either, but at least I'm not smushed into non-human features.  And James is always pretty in them.

And there you have it, the sad saga of my brilliance when faced with the hotness that is James.  *is pathetic*

He does smell good, doesn't he?  I was surprised by how calm I was when I met him.  My friend is the one that I had to fan because it looked like she would pass out after having met him...lol!  I'm amazed at some of these crazy fans, they really do take the joy out of it.  Sure, I love him, but I'm not gonna go around saying that I'm his girlfriend and having his kid.  That would get me a visit from the nice men with the straight jackets, or as you said, a restraining order.  I do hope to see him again one of these days, but I just happened to luck out that time.  I've only ever been to one convention before, but it was quite the experience.

When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.

I got to see him at a small concert, but alas haven't gotten near him. My only "celeb" was RJ Helton from American Idol and well, Ejay (I think his last name was Day? I just know he looked like one of the trolls from 10th Kingdom) but I was chasing RJ to get his attention at the mall of georgia and get a picture with him (which Ejay took). My friend Aimee told me I hadn't noticed the security start to go after me thinking I was probably about to field tackle the two american idol contestants, lol

"Crazy Purple Lady" is Donna, and she genuinely isn't in reality. She says off the wall things, but the woman is seriously not sane, as in needing meds. Steve and James know by now, and James is very kind and patient with her, and she walks away beaming every time. She was at the recent thing in LA. You just have to do the "smile and nod" and let her pass by...

I've heard that JM is very kind and patient, even with the weird/scary fans who say inappropriate things or grab him in naughty places *mind goes to naughty places...*  Ok, I'm back.

Slayme, I think what you said at the photo op was actually priceless; and I'm sure compared to what some of the other fans say/do, was not actually that bad; obviously it didn't stick in the Gorgeous One's mind, and like I said, at least you got to see, hear, touch and smell him.

Hmmmmm.  Only one missing is taste...  You didn't by chance happen to lick him, did you??  *mind back in naughty place*  That might be considered slightly inappropriate...

I first met James this November in Cardiff...

I had had a flight canceled on my way there, had been bought a drink by strangers that saw me crying at the airport, the flight they put me in instead flew to another town, I spent all my money on a cab to get there, lightly punched a police officer (several times) for making me believe the cab had left me at the wrong part  of town  when the venue JM was at was actually around the corner (fortunately instead of busting me the guy hugged me and calmed me down - cuz I was crying while hitting him and yelling "you have no f***king sense of humor!!!"), and when I actually got there I was told the pre-paid
photo session was over.

I broke down crying again (yep, must have cried all around Europe that day!) and the lady that owned the venue grabbed me by the hand and dragged me all the way up the stairs where the photo-shoots were taking place, by-passing the queue formed there, and practically threw me on James, taking my jacket off in the process.

I tried to collect myself and be polite, so I went to him, hand outstretched, and said "Hi, I'm Sotia" to which he answered "Hi, I'm James" (DUH! who'd I fly across Europe to see???) and pulled me in for a bear hug, when my wit hit in and I added "and I'm gonna faint now" He chuckled as he took the pose, and was muttering through his teeth "It's ok, baby".

I'm surprised I didn't actually faint, but afterwards, when I said my 'thank you' and he answered "Thank you baby", I swear I had a time-lapse. I can't even remember how I got back to the ground floor! LOL, I guess I'll always remember that! (Sorry for rambling on so long, I just read the other's experiences and wanted to share mine :P )

Awww, Sotia...you had your first James-fog. :D

I can actually manage to hold a conversation and stuff, but afterwards, I'm a squeeing shaking fogged out fan. I have to concentrate on what we exchanged or it just fades.....away.....And oh, God, am I shaking beforehand! Head to toe tremors, not helped at ALL by both venues I was at also being frozen! Somehow, I can force the nervousness down so I smile like a normal person, my voice doesn't shake, and my hand is just cold, not sweaty. I've never been like that around any other celebrity or on interviews......but James kills me ded, LOL.

Okay - Sotia wins! LOL  Side note, James is lovely to everyone, but if you want a bit of extra attention, it doesn't hurt to be young. Alas. *goes off muttering about face lifts and more gym time*

Yes, CM, I believe he did call her Donna.  And I didn't cover the part where she was shoplifting her way through the only vender at the con and Amyb and I were charged with guarding the doors while someone went off to get help!  Julie was James' manager at that time and she handled it pretty well, although she only made her cough up the expensive stuff.  She gave me the "we pick our battles" speech when I protested that she still had some small stuff in her bag.  I'm really surprised that she is able to function in the RW - maybe she only goes crazy around James?

Not that that could happen to a normal person...

And, no, SKM  - licking didn't seem like a good option, but who knows? I'm sure worse things have happened to him. :)

I'm so just utterly jealous I could spit; the closest I'll probably ever get is watching the home movies of the cons on Youtube.  Which, gotta say, while showing how hot he is, not anywhere close to the real thing.  Wah.

But if you ever read about somebody showing up at one of the con's and dropping dead during the photo op with the delicious JM, while blushing Bozo the Clown red, it's probably me.  :-P

I really enjoyed reading the meeting JM experiences here.  Slaymesoftly, you crack me up, LOL!  Sotia, I'm glad you got to get your picture after all the trouble you went through to get there.  : )

I live in Southern California, but I doubt I'll ever see JM in person, unless I bump into him on the street or on the beach one day.  I enjoy hearing everyone elses stories and seeing the videos that others put up though.

Sort of on topic...I guess...I really liked SMG as Kendall on AMC.  I know that proves I'm old (I started watching soaps when I was 11, though).  I never got the impression that Lucci was that bad on set, but I guess we never really know what goes on behind the scenes.  And a side note, I love the girl who plays the part of Kendall now.

Dec 29 2007 06:57 pm   #31TammyDevil666

I was actually surprised to not say anything stupid around him, like tell him how pretty he is.  Most guys don't really like that, all I managed to get out was telling him that he did a great job at his concert.  I think I was more nervous at the photoshoot.  I stood too far away from him, so he just wrapped his arms around me and pulled me closer to his side.  I had no complaints with that, but then afterwards I bent down to pick up my stuff that I put on the floor, and my back nearly goes out.  The perfect time for that, too.  He noticed and gave me a little pout, asking if I was okay and rubbing my back for me.  *sighs* My back has never been the same since...lol!  It's just really sad because I'm only 24, and yet he had an injured knee and was walking around with a cane, but nothing can stop that man.  I admire him so much more now knowing that his injury didn't cause him to cancel the convention or the concert.  I really hope I would get the chance to meet him again.

When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. Slaymesoftly, if only I could relate the entire day I had to go through to see James you would be rolling on the floor, not just saying I won... *chuckles*

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the pic sucks! (I mean me, of course, James is handsome as ever!!!) I have a look on my face that seems like I'm thinking "Who the f**k is this guy, and why's he touching me???" And I could have sworn I was smiling during the shot!

*sigh*  Thanks, Scarlet.  Between your story and Slayme's, I almost feel like I've been there now.  You guys really capture that impossible euphoric feeling of meeting him (or what I imagine in must be like).  *sigh*  Being poor sucks.  And Scarlet; love the picture of him behind you with his arms around you; that's the type of photo I would want; either that, or remember that promo shot of him and Dru, with his hand over her heart???  I'd want something like that, I think.  Either that or one like where they're standing together with their foreheads touching; I love those two pictures, and it would be so cool to have a shot like that.  Either that or....  ok, better stop now.  Next will be into nekkid photos, and that just wouldn't be good!  ;-)

Sotia if it helps--I waited ten years for that moment (and almost broke my poor bank account doing it).  Oh hell, it was worth every penny

And SpikesKatMac--keep up with the fic suggestions!  They sound great (especially that last one, though only in our dreams, I suspect :P )  And should the day come where I get to take a pic with him again, I want a kick ass photo.  Someone took a pic of him mock biting their neck--I don't know if I could stay conscious long enough for that, lol.

Oh, I don't know if I mentioned this, but I was way broke too.  I only got to go cause my brand new (and only one I ever had) credit card.

DawnofMe - the Burbank con in April is $25 for general admission, and you can get to see James in a Q&A that way, though you'll be towards the back. It's the cheapest way to see him in the US, excluding some concert tickets. You can buy photo or auto tickets at the con, too - most people wait 'til they're there, so you really can do it cheap. For a con. ;)

Hee, my first time meeting James, he called me "luv". I was squeeing about that for months. :D

Scarlet and Slayme, I love both your stories. *sigh* If only. I can dream can't I.

I want to meet James. I've only gotten the chance to meet James Hetfield (SP?) lead singer to Metallica. When G n R toured with them. I really wanted to meet (molest) Axl, but that didn't pan out. I mean I was only 14 I think, I might have been 13. Yeah, I was 13. I had to add in my head. But meet James was a complete accident. But it was cool.

So sadly, my life sucks, and I know no one, lol. I will live through your guys stories.

CM,  it's not the money.  My amazing husband is very understanding about my obsession with another man, : )  But I'm not going to push it by paying to see him in person, LOL!  I am content to admire him from a far, write about a character he portrayed, and plastering my LJ with pics of him.

Okay, I'm joining in.  I posted my James experience here: http://www.bloodshedverse.com/forum.php?go=read&no=6540
Scroll down to about the middle of the page.

The April con is actually my Christmas present from my husband.  Well, it was my idea, but he agreed to it ;-)  I'm already getting giddy thinking about it :-D  I can't wait for my next Jimmy haze!!!!!

IB, loved your description of James:  really freaking, stomach-churningly, weak-in-the-knees, ga-ga-faced, drool-worthily beautiful   That may be the best description of our boy I've read yet!!

I read your story with my breath held, b/c I was scared it was gonna end with "And then I hurled all over him, but he was really great about it!"  Glad to see you were able to hold on!  And I thought your question was great; I know I would completely lose the ability to speak English if I had the chance to chat with him, and would just stand there drooling like a reject from the funny farm.

And as a cat person, I'm so glad to know that about JM; my babies, Tank, Mulder and Quick thank you too!

OMG--I'm wickedly jealous, IB!  And yeah, that sounds silly considering... but that was just so awesome!  You made it sound like...he purred or something.  So fantastic!   I laughed out loud here, cause I could so hear him: James laughed in that maniacal chuckle of his, and I just about peed my pants.

Anyway, you have an LJ now, and should totally post it, if you haven't already :P

Spike Love can be a tad strange for married folk - it took me a while to put some of my Spike action figures out - My hubby just does not get my love for the buffyverse, or spike - h0wever he did get me the entire seasons of buffy for christmas one year -

Wish that our city scifi convention would include a buffyverse day - maybe jm would make a visit - maybe the organizers would be open to my suggestion -

Side note, James is lovely to everyone, but if you want a bit of extra attention, it doesn't hurt to be young.

I met James at a con a few years back and I can still remember that day quite vividly. Highlights include: photo op, where he hugged me really tight, leaned in close to speak to me - practically kissed my neck he was so close (I had to hold my breath to stop from fainting), managed to ask a question at the Q&A which made him laugh, and then spoke to him again when they were doing signings where I totally busted the guy checking out my cleavage. Not once, but TWICE. I felt pretty proud of myself at that point. And I can second (or third or tenth!) what everyone has said about James smelling good... cos boy does he ever!
