What do you think was the best season for Spike out of the ones he was on in Buffy, and what was the best season for Buffy?

I think I might go with the 7th season for both of them, it was also one of my faves.
When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.

Best season for Buffy was...season five.

Best for Spike?  Season five of Angel.  Obviously they both had awesome moments over the series, but the overall body of work (by season) that I find most enjoyable were those two.

Do you mean best season where we liked them or best season where they were happy?

either one. I think maybe the one you liked them best, but you can go with when they were happy.

I liked Buffy the best in season 3.  I liked her, I liked the way she got her life back on track, after letting herself go to the depths at the end of season 2,  and I loved how she ended her high school career.

For Spike, of the Buffy seasons, 7.  Well, I was proudest of him in that season.  For just plain liking Spike, I would say seasons 2 and 5.  And I also really loved him as part of the group dynamic in season 5 of Angel.  Uh, I guess it was harder to pick a favorite season for Spike than it would seem.

I would have to agree with Scarlet, but I would add season three for Buffy as well.

And I know this is off topic, but just between us. I personally think Spike would have been able to kill Buffy during their first fight. I don't buy it for one second that Joyce was able to knock him out with that axe. She didn't have enough upper body muscle to do it. And Buffy, at the time was still a young slayer, she didn't have enough skill to beat Spike. But if he killed her then their wouldn't have been a show. But still, he had more skill, more muscle, and beat two slayers before her.

Aside from the fact that the plot device kept the show from ending during School Hard, I think the reason Spike doesn't kill Buffy is because he is so surprized at how others are willing to stand up for her (and against him).  He is used to battling his slayers one on one, and I think he is actually stunned when that doesn't happen and needs time to reassess what it is he wants from the conflict, and how he's going to get it.

As for best seasons, I really like season 4, for both of them, even though Spike doesn't have too much of a role as yet, the possibilities are so endless.

I think he just didn't want to stop dancing.  Any time he goes in for the kill on Buffy, he goes slow.  Anybody else, he just rips right into them.

Even if he was taken back at their first meeting, he still would have end up killing her during season 2. Well at least before she put him in the chair, lol. I just don't buy it. Spike was the better of the two, he sould have added her to his belt, lol. I love Spuffy, but sometimes I wish he'd just killed her or turned her.

GB, that's what fan fic is for :P

But, I agree--he was stunned that she had family who would stand by her. He's used to Slayer's being alone and fighting alone, and perhaps the fact that it was her mother also had something to do with it.  Had it been Giles, I think they both would have had their necks snapped or their heads bashed in.  But because it was her mom--a woman, with as you said, no real strength besides the love of her daughter (you'd be surprised how much strength one can get from adrenaline, especially if one's child is in danger), impressed him.  Spike's always been guided and ruled by love, and now that I think about it years later, it makes sense that Joyce's love, and not her strength, stopped Spike.

Obviously there would be no show if Spike killed her, and I wouldn't have wanted to see her as a vampire.  I don't even like to read vamp Buffy fictions.  I really hated Spike when he first showed up, though.  I would have rather him be staked, but now I'm glad that never happened.

I think, with any Slayer, he likes to savor the hunt. We don't really know about the Chinese Slayer, but with Nikki, we know they fought at least on two separate occasions, and that Spike pretty much willingly gave up the first time. Granted, Robin startled him, but he could've continued the fight right there until he killed her - but he didn't, he walked away and then met her again on the subway (on what I'm guessing is a different day, since neither of them are wet in the subway fight).

He probably was startled by Joyce's defense of Buffy, and left to regroup, but he seems to enjoy studying her in "Halloween," and is a little thrilled that she doesn't play by the rules. I don't think he got frustrated until after she foiled his plans a few times - before that, he was having fun playing with her.
