What Stories Do You Read?

I heard of two groups of Buffy/Spike readers. Ones who only read for writers they know and trust. Ones who would read anything.

I think old readers are just not satisfied with any story because they've read too much, their taste is high standard, so they just read for famous writers. But then they'd miss out on great stories from new authors with fresh plotlines and good writing.

If the summary sounds interesting I'll give the story a try even if I don't know the author, simply because the writers I know can't provide enough updates to keep me entertained (maybe I should consider getting a live outside of work and the Internet). I'm pretty quick at hitting the back button if I don't like what I see though - pretty as in very.

Pretty much what Dia said, if the premise looks interesting I'll give it a go, if the writing isn't good enough to keep me entertained I will quickly stop reading. Having said that, I have enough trouble keeping up with my f'list and the WIP's I am already following, so I don't tend to go actively searching for something new to read.

I read almost anything, new writers I tend to wait till the fic is completed as I have got stuck with too many unfinished fics

I love to find "new" writers...or new to me at least.  I will ALWAYS read any work put out by the tried and true...those who have captivated me in the past.  However I will usually try any story with a decent summary and continue (unless something is too offputting) any with a good plot and good character voice.  If I enjoyed that story I will usually hunt others by that writer as well.

Another thing I do is check out the stories on the award sites, lots of fic I might have missed otherwise turn up there.

I love the random story option on archive sites like here for that same reason.

Basically....if it's written well, I will read and rave and return.

I started out reading anything I came across, but my time is limited and now that I write, too, I have even less time to read.

With some exceptions, I read only completed works and I have gotten so many great recommendations that I have a long list of older stories to read.

I will read any author as long as the story appeals to me and/or it came highly recommended.

For the most part, I read authors I'm familiar with. I'm not averse to new authors, but usually I find them through recommendations. I don't spend a lot of time trolling for new fics to read, because I have plenty to occupy my time as it is.
