Holiday Season Works

Nov 14 2008 09:34 am   #1nmcil
Since we are into the Holiday Season  - I think it would be great to have a place to post your Holiday Stories, old or new, and Artworks also your Fav Holiday Recommends.

Plus - would members like to have "Pangs" as one of the discussion episodes during the Thanksgiving Week or has "Pangs" been talked to death for Thanksgiving?

I always do set of Buffyverse Greeting Cards - hope that other members will create some for all the BSV readers to enjoy - we can post them at my Whedon World Gallery site - you can send them to me or you can post the links -

Please add your works or recommends and help make this a great Spuffy Season.  Especially with all the terrible Economic Troubles we could all use some Buffyverse works to bring some smiles, love, passions, sorrows and joy to our Holiday Season.

this is the link for original size:   http://www.flickr.com/photos/nmcil/3034535368/sizes/o/

Are you saying post your recs here, or on your site?  It's a nice idea to put all the fics in one place, though. I like it. Somewhat like the LJ season communities, but with links to all fics in one place?

List the links to your Holiday Stories here - I would be nice to have all the BSV writers list their works - We could have one list for BSV writers and a list for Recommends.

I started my Holiday Season with a watching of "Pangs" while I was doing some art project work - Pre-Buffy I always watched The Nutcracker for Thanksgiving - and of course I both listen to a reading of A Christmas Carol and watch different versions - My favorite is still the George Scott version.

Starting the project with a listing I found - please add yours

Okay. Here are my Christmas fics (I don't think I missed any, but I wouldn't swear to it).

Links to my holiday fics (Christmas only):

This link goes to a series of four ficlets written as 2005 Christmas presents. Each one leads to the next, so they'e now all together in one four-chapter fic.

http://spuffystuff.org/christmasfics.htm

This one is to a future fic – technically I guess it takes place during Angel season V, but obviously never really happened. Alas.

http://spuffystuff.org/fivegoldrings.html

This was my last year’s Christmas fic. Also a future fic, but set several years after NFA.

http://spuffystuff.org/unwrap.htm

This year’s Christmas fic won’t be posted until my date on Noel_of_Spike, so don''t look for it until after December 22nd.

This is my only holiday fiction, just a short one:

www.bloodshedverse.com/stories.php
When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.
Nov 16 2008 12:01 am   #6Eowyn315
I've only written one Christmas fic - Slay Bells, which is part of a series, but it mostly makes sense even if you haven't read the rest of it.
Writing should feel easy, like a monkey driving a speed boat.

No chance that we can't jaw about a Spike episode some more.   Also, we skipped over season 4 (my fault) so let's go for it.
If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who?

Is this a Live Journal community or writers group?

I'll self-pimp... *wiggles* I have several holiday fics.

It Came Upon The Midight Clear - (NC-17) Torn and numb after her fall from Heaven, Buffy is haunted by ghosts of her past, and confronted with the truth of her future.

Unwrapped - (NC-17) After issuing Spike a series of subtle hints which he hasn’t noticed, Buffy decides to take a more direct approach to let him know her feelings have drastically changed.

Blood and Mistletoe - (NC-17)   BtVS Season 4 Post Something Blue.  Jilted with mingled feelings for the Slayer post the Will Be Done spell, Spike declares his feud with the Scoobies a Pax Romana for the holidays, and naturally ends up with a handful.

In Excelsis Deo - (R)  Post Chosen.  Breaks from AtS S5 Canon. Upon answering a desperate call a late autumn night, Wesley invokes the help of Fred in nursing a broken warrior back to health.  A warrior that does not want to live but to see the face of a woman that has moved an ocean away.

Home for the Holidays - BtVS/The West Wing crossover. (PG) Set sometime during The Garden Club, but not related to any existing plotlines. Sam travels to Sunnydale to spend the holidays with Willow and her family. Pairings: Sam/Willow, mention of Spike/Buffy and hints at Josh/Donna

Autumn Sunsets - (NC-17)  Buffy asks Spike to help her with her Thanksgiving dinner, and is determined to keep Xander’s prophecy the previous year of a “new tradition” from coming true. The PTB, unfortunately, have other ideas. Season 5: No Glory, Riley, or Dawn. Drastically AU.

This Simple Phrase - (NC-17)  A Christmasy companion fic to Autumn Sunsets. Buffy and Spike host a Christmas Eve party at their new apartment.

Holly -

Thanks so much for posting your stories - I have been trying to remember where I read the Christmas Carol like piece - look forward to reading the others -
I read a Holiday story, and as usual, just knew that I would remember the author and did not - has a hilarious section about Buffy and Spike shopping for their big Holiday dinner needs - I am hoping that it is one on the list -think it might be Autumn Sunsets.

These are recent Spuffy holiday arts that I've made.  I'm still pretty new at it, so they're not that great.  They're basically just two different versions of the same art:

i81.photobucket.com/albums/j231/musicbitch_photos/1stsnow03scopy.jpg

i81.photobucket.com/albums/j231/musicbitch_photos/BuffyandSpike98.jpg

I'm still trying to force myself to come up with a fiction to go with it, but my muse isn't cooperating at the moment.  If anyone has any ideas, I'd be glad to hear them=)
When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.

Be your own Santa or Gift Giver with the James Marsters yummy treat -

Available on cd now "The Importance Of Being Earnest" from LA Theatre Works production - Mine was delivered this week and I loved it.  I made my own graphics for announcements as the image used on the official cd cover has got to be the most appalling photo of JM I have ever seen - I can't believe the image was actually approved by JM or the LATW -  it is really a terrible image.

Big discount right now - Purchase Link:

If you were going to give your friends and special people something as a "Special Christmas Recommend Gift" what would you give them?

One of my  "Special Gift Recommends" would be the Mozart Requiem, K-626 along with the Exsultate, Jubilate, K-165  -  I was listening again today,  gives you such a wonderful experience and connection with what is the best in humanity and one of the greatest musical minds of our Western culture.

most appalling photo of JM I have ever seen - Agreed!! It's totally a lighting issue, too, because I saw him that day they took the photo and he looked great. They should've taken it on the stage, not some shadowy back room.

That's her avoidy Drac Bite guilt look - I used it because I thought she looked very pretty in this episode, plus trying to use images that we don't see often - I was reading that story about the wonderful big fancy ball party Spike gave just before the final battle in "Chosen" and I wanted to try something based on the theme of giving her a beautiful gift.  The story was not a happy Buffy & Spike Spuffy piece so I wanted to show the sad elements of the story.  FF writers so often show Buffy as being very suspicious of Spike and his finances and quick to make wrong judgment calls -

I spend a lot of time looking for specific images online and through my DVD collection -  I have built up a large resource of my own DVDscreencaps to get the quality I like - then I use photoshop - I almost never use images that have not been manipulated.  These images went through at lest five major changes and then individual details. For instance Spike and Buffy - the backgrounds were detailed to cover up distractions in the backgrounds by adding foliage and curtain effects for Spike - same for the jewelry box.  Plus I do a lot of clean up work on the faces.  I also use my original  photographs, Dover hi res vintage and font .

I have to laugh at myself when I consider how few people actually bother to look at my images - This bracelet image is from DVDscreencaps I made of George C. Scott version of "A Christmas Carol" - I started to do some combination Dickens and Buffyverse images for a jibjab Christmas Carol, but they were looking really strange so I gave it up.

Fact is, I love working with digital art - have participated in several Digital Art exhibitions in my city - Right now I am totally frustrated because I just purchased the upgrade on my movie software and have had so many problems.  I wanted to get my Christmas projects done in time to post by 24th but it does not look like my upgrade is going to let that happen.

I finished all the Real Life art projects for the Holiday Season - have one window display to set up first week of January so I had some Buffyverse Art Fun time available.

If you have not seen the new "A Christmas Carol" in 3-D , I had a chance to see it the other day and I like it very much.  The director has focused on the darker elements of the story and the visuals are excellent.  It is the same film maker that worked with Tim Burton on some of his films.  Great to see that he is doing work under his own name.  My husband and I were friends and associates with one of the special effects directors on some of the Tim Burton films when we were doing film work.

NM - it's easy.  Upload the image to photobucket.  Roll over the photo and It gives you the HTML address (and other kinds of links).  Click on the address to copy it and paste the address into the post or where ever you want to display the image.  That's the theory.  Naturally I can't get it to work now.

I'm not aware that there have been any changes in how one posts images. (That's a Dia question and I haven't talked to her lately) I've never used anything buy Photobucket, so I don't know how or if you can do it from somewhere else.  If you look at the top of the text box, there's an icon (square thingie) for "image".

Just a quick reminder about our Buffyverse Advent Calendar - Hope some of you will stop by and look at our home page - you can access some of the Advent Calendar on this page as well as listen to our Christmas Music.  I am looking for Christmas FF stories to feature for some of the days -

I'm taking some from our older Christmas Stories thread list - but if you have some works you want to recommend or your own titles PLEASE post them for me.   Here is one of our December 10 Advent Calendar items.

Lilachigh - I am doing graphics and trying to feature different characters - for Darla I featured your "One Day" story for our Advent Calendar -  This is what the post looks like.  I did a graphic piece for it.

I don't know. I don't think my Xmas stories necessarily have the word in the summary.  Might say "holiday" or "Santa" or something like that. I'll take a look and give you the titles.

OK, here's what I've got on here - Specifically Christmas stories:
Christmas Series 2005
Who Needs Five Gold Rings?
Ready to Unwrap
A Bumpy Christmas
And You Don't Even Have to Wrap It
Spuffy Christmas Through the Seasons
Christmas Berries
Best Bloody Christmas Ever
(New Year, New Memories - New Years, obviously. )

Also including some Christmas scenes:
Things That Go Bump (just one chapter)
John and Buffy (They meet while Christmas shopping)

I'll be posting another one (this year's Xmas fic) sometime soon.

Sorry about not updating the link - You should be able to see the images on the Home Page - the Home Tab  "Advent Calendar" only directs you to the images on the home page where you can see the Advent Calendar graphics and Holiday Season vids -  There are no images or vids only the links to the items show.  You should be able to see our home page - that is my understanding of what should be happening.  Hope this is the case.

Scroll to see all and I recommend the Spike JibJab in the vids - it's hilarious

Here is the link to Buffytube Home Page - unless you are a member you can only see the items on the Home Page.  Just scroll down and you can see the different features -  We use to allow full access to the network but we started getting spammers so we went back to Home Page only viewing for non-members.

I will be posting a link to your other Christmas stories - but I first have to get the links with the titles - One of the reasons that I wanted to use the "search" feature was that it gave titles and links for where to read.   It would be good if the holiday stories had something in the descriptions that mentioned the holiday so that it would show up in the "search"  feature.

I was not able to register (not willing to give my birthdate, although I could have fudged that, I guess) but there was something else it wanted from me that I didn't even understand. May have been a password? The title of an episode? Anyway, the initials meant nothing to me, so I couldn't log in if I wanted to. :) I like the comic excerpt - it goes well with that story.

I've opened up the entire Buffytube site for December - so this is a great time for any of our members to visit the site - maybe even think about joining us.  The blog is a good way to post short stories, ficlets and drabbles with links to your regular fanfiction archived sites and personal sites.  But the network was started as a way to circumvent the youtube problems with copyright on fan vids and for fanart.  I love the network and think it's a great fandom site with all the features it offers.  If all is working as I intended, you should now be able to access the full site.
