New James Marsters Movie

James Marsters Battles High Plains Invaders

Having just portrayed an alien invader is the deplorable Dragonball: Evolution, perhaps James Marsters starring in a Syfy movie about alien bugs attacking a Wild West town might actually be a step up. Dust off your cowboy hats, folks, 'cause here come the High Plains Invaders.

High Plains Invaders casts the former Spike of "Buffy" and "Angel" as Sam Danville, a guilt-ridden outlaw who arrives in a small Old West town to be executed for his various crimes. Just before he's to be hanged, voracious giant bugs from outer space fall to earth to gorge themselves on the uranium deposits found in the town's ground. Danville finds himself the reluctant leader of a small group of townsfolk against the extraterrestrial insect onslaught.

James Marsters Battles High Plains Invaders

Included in that group is a nurse who also happens to the woman Danville regretfully abandoned years earlier, a scientist who discovered the uranium mine attracting the space bugs, a fellow prisoner with his own designs on the uranium ore, and a fast-talking, fast-shooting bounty hunter.

Actor/video game voice actor/TV director Kristoffer Tabori helms the script for this alien western by Richard Beattie (Prom Night IV: Deliver Us From Evil) being produced by Canada's Muse Entertainment. RHI Entertainment will handle the distribution side of things, but we all know at the end of the day this is a film destined for Syfy later this year.

For the record, Romania doubles for the American West.

I personally love bad sci fi flicks, so I look forward to this with all the delight of a non-lethal train wreck. If it proves to be anything better than that, well, I win either way.

Think this is going to be one of the SciFi Saturday films on the SciFi Channel - I hope that it is at least a decent script.

Don't forget to look for him this July on the History channel in "Moon Shot"  in a totally different, and thank goodness that he was able to do a film of such a different theme and for such a different audience.

But yeah--can't wait for it to come out.  Maybe it'll be...good.

I agree that a bad or just mediocre movie with James beats no movie at all!  (Remember Cool Money?)
Can anyone tell me the date and time Moonshot will be on the History Channel?

Hey, I like the facial hair too, I grew up in the 70's we loved the hair then

It worked when I put it up, not sure why it doesn't now :(
My guess it won't be too long, they may even show it on ION first, as they show a lot of RHI movies on that channel.

Ok, I am disappionted too, I thought it would show up on RHI On Demand (which I get free) but no, it showed up on VOD pay channel for $4.99. I think I am going to wait 'til it comes out on the Sci-Fi channel (soon to be changed to Sy-Fy) it should be on their saturday night movie within a couple of months.

How did you like it?

I did read a short review, so I am going to para-phrase here:
"JM's acting was very good considering the script was bad"

i am going to reserve judgement until I see it for myself, I may break down and spend 5 bucks to see it, if I do, I will let you know.

If you have Movies on Demand in the US for Optimum...You can get it for 4.95 in regular of HD.  The movie was eh....Seemed like a miniture War of the Worlds western style to me.  James freaking hot and his eyes are still so expressive.  It was just what it was a cheesy scifi movie but still watchable.

Thanks for the info - I will give it another try - this is the path I have been doing but the title does not show up - perhaps it simply is not available in my region - but I was under the impression that the Comcast On Demand was same for all the customer in their movie selections -   Guess Not

They are making a sequel to Dragonball - is that a good thing?  I asked my 16 year old nephew if he was going to see it and he said no.  I'm waiting for netflix myself.  Maybe James should get a new agent.  I guess he's doing better than Sarah Michelle anyway.

Maybe James should get a new agent. I guess he's doing better than Sarah Michelle anyway.

James may be doing more jobs and the jobs he is taking are eh...Sarah however, is very choosy with what she takes...Also she's very much pregnant!  I think first and foremost in her mind is she is having a child.  She is human just as the rest of us females who have been in this situation.  She is probably taking her time of because this is a big step for her...I actually am amazed and respect her more for taking the time to explore and revel in her relationship with Freddie before settling down and having a family.  She makes decisions based on what she wants not so much what her agent wants her to do.

James takes roles that appeal to him.  They may seem crappy but to him they were good parts.  I honestly, even watching Dragonball with girls I use to Nanny for, thought the movie wasn't that bad.  I wouldn't mind seeing another movie because people need to get off the canon crap.  Movies ARE going to be different no matter how you slice it.  Cartoons and anime have a bit more edge to it.  You're not going to get Anime quality in a motion picture that isn't Anime.  This goes for fan fiction.  Everyone is such canon whores that they can't understand the concept of FAN fiction like those who see books made into movies...Yet don't understand that concept.  Things have to change to adapt...I guess no one believes in this.  This applies to the possible Buffy movie...They are remaking the movie in hopes to better the first one and to improve what they failed at.  Honestly, I wouldn't want Joss and Company on that movie...Lots love how he writes...I didn't...Others would agree and others wouldn't.  The Point is that no matter what Hollywood is totally running out of ideas and budgets for who they cast...And so on...The economy is in such turmoil now that I wouldn't be surprised that most of those big named actors are taking what they can get as well as those who are just desperate for a part.  Just look at some of the crappy movies that have come out...Not saying that a good movie hasn't come out since, but they are few, far, and between.

Hardcore canon fans are going to be rioting...They are going to cause problems...It will be the case in anything.  Whether its in a book, fan fiction, a movie, or and independent film or play.  People will decimate anything that comes out because it isn't how it first was...This is adapting, making do with what they can...I see nothing wrong with that.  It's like this with anything that that is different.  Those who have worked hard to make what they achieved perfect in their eyes is constantly ridiculed.  I say bravo because most can't do what they achieved.

Example: James was pleased with what he had done on High Plains Invaders.  Was it his best?  Actually, the tone, the aspect of the whole movie...I say yes it very much was.  It was a cheesy movie.  He made it stand out though.  The aliens...they were corny.  The acting was good to the actors it centered around.  Actually, I thought I was watching a really thought out play.  The whole movie was on a mans mistake bringing the aliens and a man who was about to be hanged helping save the other towners.  It wasn't bad but it wasn't in the realm of the ever award winning Titanic or Philadelphia.  I know old movies but what can I saw both phenomenal movies.  I think it personally did better than most cheesy movies like the movie I just saw on demand...Feast.  This was way corny and just all about the blood and gore.  But hey it's not about who's better any more...It's about surviving and finding a decent job or in this case a role suitable for them to make a living.

Just my thoughts on that matter because in this world everything is constantly ridiculed no matter what you do. You look in the mirror...One day your saying wow I look amazing...Other days you are ugh I don't look so good.  It's always going to be a constant debate on if it was a good idea or not to do something...THIS was their decision.  We may not like it but they are proud of their idea and accomplishments...What do we have besides our own loves and accomplishments...Would we want to be ridiculed by what we do?  I certainly wouldn't.

Last I knew from James, he was told to say a sequel was greenlit in hopes that it would help DBE sales in the US. It wasn't actually true.

James chooses things he can work around the kids' schedule for, remember that. He's up in Modesto to see his son every free weekend, and his niece lives with him and a nanny full time.

OT - Taken was a hell of a movie. You're going to love it if you haven't already seen it. We went in the theater, and bought the DVD just released, which is an extended cut.

Oh, and James recently auditioned for a Scorsese TV series - I think he's doing ok. ;)
Jun 08 2009 07:32 am   #35nmcil
I just wish that I could see High Plains Invaders - the film is listed on my On Demand Available list but does not show up on my list of films.  On a new Buffy film - I think it is best that the project be totally separate from the series - There are many things that could be done without using the characters that come with so many expectations from the original fans.  Plus, all the original actors that played the major characters are passed being able to go back to the same roles.  If a really good Slayer film could be created I would be happy to add another Slayer aspect to my Buffyverse and Angelverse experience.  The BIG factor is Good - I personally did not care for the first film.

I also enjoyed Dragonball Evolution - Was it a great film, no, but it was something that I did enjoy and I wish that they had used Lord Piccolo a lot more - actually his role was pretty badly written but what the film did was bring the original series to the attention to people who were not familiar with Dragonball.  Just like the new Star Trek film gave a huge rejuvenation to the Star Trek franchise - brought in a great many new fans while at the same time, pleased just about all the old Trek fans too.

I'm sure that James Marsters is very glad to be working - not many of the actors from the series are as lucky as he when it comes to getting work.  Of all the series actors, only about 5 of them are actually working on a regular basis.  I just wish that he could a really good dramatic role in a first class production.

James Marsters once again tries to give some interest and life with a limited role - while the film was not particularly good, I did enjoy watching JM and I also like the actor who played the doctor. Hope that it comes out as a DVD soon as I always like to support James Marsters' projects. Heck I buy his music and I don't particularly care for his singing.

How I wish that he could get a really good dramatic role, not another little filler role like the PS ILY or his Lord Piccolo role. He does not even get "first line cast mention" in the DVD production credits. What should have been one of the most important characters in DE was reduced to a secondary role, given almost no screen time or intelligent dialogue. He is only given any attention in the big battle finale - what a pity that such a good actor can't seem to get any roles that bring out his best as an actor.
