Vamp Shows and the ones you wish they would make

May 29 2009 08:49 am   #1LisFayte
I decided to start a thread about all the various vamp shows that are popping up with the success of Twilight and True Blood.
I have loved vampires since I was a little girl watching Dark Shadows, there wasn't really another good one after that 'til Forever Knight
Forever Knight: I watched the TV movie starring Rick Springfield and liked it a lot. Then I found out they were making a TV show I was kinda sad that RS wouldn't be in it, but I loved that show (except the last season)
As for True Blood, I have mixed feeling about this show, they have stayed pretty close to the plot in the first book (with a few big exceptions) but some of the characters have been changed a lot, and some they aren't even planning on even putting in the show (I am trying not to spoil anything here). And lastly, the show doesn't have as much humor as the books.
Anita Blake: I am looking forward to this, I hope they stay faithful to the books and do them up to OB, after that one, they get too much like porn.
I hope ABC does do Kimberly Raye's Dead End Dating, I love these fun books.
I wish they would adapt Maryjanice Davidson's Queen Betsy books, these are the best vamp/comedy books I have ever read.

I did a little check on that series that ABC might pick up and doesn't look good.  They picked up some new shows for the fall one of them being V and another show that caught my eye called Flash Forward.  It's too bad they haven't picked up Dead End Dating.  I personally haven't read the books as of yet, but it would have been interesting and yet funny as hell to watch from what I gathered from reading up on Kimberly Raye's books.  Maybe it's still in the works to possibly being something in the Spring or 2010 fall.

Anita Blake ~ she seemed a bit porntastic to me.  So she turned me off to Christine Feehan and Maggie Shayne then ultimatley Sherilyn Kenyon.

I would love it if Christine Feehan did something of a series or even a movie.  All of her books are fantastic.  She has vampires, witches, you name it!  I would choose her vamps for a series or movie but her series Drake Series would definitely be up there too!

Maggie Shayne is another one I wouldn't mind.  Her vamps are so family oriented!!!!  I loved loved her series until she didn't come out with anymore of them...She suppose to have more but not necessarily the Wing of Night series.

Check out both sites!

Now this writer I don't think she would be on regular cable...She's more imo made for the movie channels like HBO.  Like the two I spoke of they aren't as trashy or porntastic as some novels I have read on a whim.  They have all the goods in their stories but the plot and the characters...I'm absolutely floored!  I would so love to see her Dark Hunters in a series.  She can't just do a movie.  God any of her series could be made into a plotted televised series!  I don't find her writing raunchy at all.  Her characters are AMAZING...I especially love Acheron or Ash in the books.  I can't wait for the rest to reveal more to how the Dark Hunters came to be.  This series reminds me of the Carpathian series Christine Feehan has, but Sherilyn does a fine job of twisting, and keeping you reeled in too with her characters.

I uh wasn't a fan of Blood Ties.  I tried watching it but honestly, it bored me to tears.  I didn't even know there was a Moonlighting.  True Blood I didn't even realize that was a book, but I love the series.  It seems dreary, but actually at times I was laughing my ass off!  It definitely has that dark humor to it!  I hope it stays for awhile because damn Eric is FINE!

The new show coming up Vampire Diaries doesn't even get my nod of approval!  I seriously think this show is going to flake and its going to go just like Valentine just went off air.  The casting is so way off base in the females that it will have a lot of LJane Smith fans raging mad!  I'm older now but when I read them at the time I hoped beyond hoped that they would somehow become a series, but it never did, until now.  I'm disappointed.  I have seen this Nina chick act and I'm just not seeing her as Elena at all.  I envision just as LJane Smith did on her book covers...A blond blue eyed chick.  Meredith isn't in it either.  So I will watch it but I'm not holding my breath.  It will not ever be as Buffy big or even to a lesser degree Angel big.  I say this because Buffy did do better as a whole.

Honestly, I think Twilight would have been better as a series than a movie.  It would have been interesting to watch.  I personally didn't read the books and well I tried but Spuffy fanfiction kept creeping in so um yeah...

I do have to say now...I have to change my viewpoint...They are bringing Vampires into the world with a different viewpoint and with an enormous amount of bloodsucking fans to boot!  It's about damn time too!

I have read all of Maggie Shayne's Wings of the Night books, I read the first one when it was released by Silhouette Shadows (those were the only paranormal romances to be found at that time) I loved the mythology of these books. I have also read her Immortal Witch series, I wish she would write more of them. I think the IM books would make a good TV series.

I have also read Chrisine Feehan's series, I actually used to know her, I used to belong to a small (15 people) invitation only e-mail group that she was also in, when my house burned in 2003, she sent my daughter and I signed copies of all of her books. She is a wonderful woman and a GREAT writer.

Sherilyn Kenyons books are great too, they are wonderful reads, but I don't know how well they would transfer to TV, as they are about different people in each book, sure you have some people that are in every book (not spoiling here) but the main characters in each book are different every time, same as Maggie Shayne and Christine Feehan.

A couple of series that I do think would transfer well are Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series, which is wonderful and has everything, witches, vamps, weres, and pixies. And Katie McAllister's hillarious Aisling Grey: Guardian series

I think ABC said they were going to have the Kimberly Raye series as a mid season replacement if they do make it.

Well, I knew that because of the many characters that would be in the books wouldn't necessarily have been used in a series.  One I would love to see when I dreamily read the book was Acheron.  That I could have seen a more adult programing on HBO.  But on regular?  Nah.  The different characters for each book it could have gone more in depth had it been a soap/drama series but then again you're probably right.  It would make more sense for those to be more on the lines of maybe a movie.  I'm still on the dreamily Ash saga...LOL

I have also read her Immortal Witch series, I wish she would write more of them. I think the IM books would make a good TV series.

OOH I was trying to remember this!  I remember this series.  I agree!

I'm going to check these out.  Awesome more to read...lol   Thanks LisFayte!

I think ABC said they were going to have the Kimberly Raye series as a mid season replacement if they do make it.

Weird cuz I checked everywhere on their site it's not there and anything press related.  I know its up on her site, but it could be one of those projects which, I will state, I respect immensely when they do; are having it absolutely perfected.  Like the cast, the writing, and the details.  ABC is one of those networks that doesn't just throw ideal shows out there.  Sadly this is why I think CW is doing so crappy.  If it comes I will be there!  Cuz Vampire Diaries is making me hesitant big time!

I won't be suprised that when it does come out that Dead End Dating does well.  So I will cross my fingers and yet I haven't read them...Another new thing you have me wanting to get to the store the or the library for!

You know what I wouldn't mind seeing turned into a series from a movie is Underworld or even Van Helsing.  Underworld because though there are a few stories told within all three movies, I still feel it could have gone further.  I absolutely love the vamps in these movies.  Van Helsing fighting off monsters um yum....  Another one that would be kind of fun to watch was the League of Extraordinary Men or should that be beings because that sounds a bit sexist lol.  Yes the supernatural and the magical would be awesome...Sigh I miss the old days when it was Charmed then Buffy and yeah Angel when I did watch it.

One I would love to see when I dreamily read the book was Acheron.

Now that could work, if Artemis, Acheron and The Simi were the main charaters, with Acheron helping a new Dark Hunter every week, or over story arcs.

I'm going to check these out. Awesome more to read...lol Thanks LisFayte!

Don't forget to read Maryjanice Davidson's Queen Betsy books, they are so very funny, probably the funniest vamp books I have ever read. Now that is one series I would love to seen on screen.
