Wanted: Writing Buddy

WANTED: Writing Buddy

ME: I’m overwhelmed with plot bunnies. (They are aptly named - I have 22 at various stages.) Trying to transcribe my inner visions feels like torture.  I am obsessed with storytelling but writing is just NOT my natural medium.  (Damn it.) I am a visual artist by training and inclination but it turns out that nothing has ever been as much fun as making up stories.  I study and try to learn from anyone who tells stories that I respect in any medium.  Film has been very educational, so have comics.  I have a notebook of respected writing advice.

I LOVE rewriting and editing.  It’s that first bit of getting my Fifth Grade-esque rough draft out that is the really painful part.  Trying to translate the pictures and feelings in my head into ordered words is HARD.  I get muddled.  I naturally think in pictures-NOT Words, unfortunately.

I’ve tried regular writing groups but they just don’t get Spuffy.  Heck, other than my husband, no one I know has or will watch BtVS or even knows what fanficton IS.  So I’ve been trying to write in isolation and it has become obvious that it really isn’t working for me and that I could just use some... support.  I’m not trying to get published, I just want to manage to finish a damn story!

I will read any genre except ultra-dark. (i.e.: Anything by DreamsofSpike is a bit too much for me - great writer but it messes with my head.) I even read AU High School fics.  What matters to me is originality.

YOU: A fellow Spuffy writer.   Interested in the HOW of storytelling.  Wanting characters that breathe, specific dialog, no cliches.  Wanting to work on atmosphere, rhythm, pacing.  And... patient.  (Because I’m slow.)

US: The trading of written bits, IM (Skype anyone?), in depth discussions of the mechanics of storytelling, encouragement, and handholding.

GOAL: Finish a damn story and post it!

(Small writing samples and personal info upon request.)

I feel for you. My first fic went through a gazillion incarnations before it resembled as story. It started out reading like a screenplay, because that's how I saw it in my head - as another episode of a TV show. But I got over it. You will too.
Great idea trying to find a writing partner who will complement your strengths and weaknesses. Good luck!

The whole writing buddy thing is a good idea. I learned from Nanowrimo that nagging emails and guilt work wonders in getting things done.  (And I want to get published, so I wouldn't mind someone to guilt trip me into writing.)

Though I don't have Skype. I do have Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo IM. (I prefer Yahoo. It doesn't mess up on me nearly as much as the other one does.)

The majority of my fics are posted here if you want to see they types of stories I write.

Are you talking about me Yash? I've only guilted you into a few 'Spuffynatural' fics (btw, I need a new one) and I have only bugged you you for new "Tolls" a couple of hundred times :-P

You? Nag? Never...  :P

And have you read Alone, Lost, and Found, or its interlude Everyday For Us Something New?
Cause if so, then you'll just have to wait.  :D

By the way- The sequel to Alone, Lost, and Found is almost finished. I just need to fix the ending and then give it to AJ so she can see if I've screwed anything up. And yes, I'm still working on Tolls. It's just going a lot slower than I'd like. Damn muse has gotten all obsessed with Supernatural. I blame the evil genius that is Kripke.

WTH? My post disappeared!
BreathesStory, in my original post I said that I know how you feel, it is incredibly frustrating to have these plot bunnies pop up and not being able to write them. I think that is why I became a beta, I don't have the talent to write, but I do know how to tell others what they are doing wrong :-P
As for my plot bunnies, if I can't write them, I post them as challenges either here on the BSV challenge site, or on my LJ challenge site, most times both places.
I do have one bunny that is very special to me that I'm not going to post, but I am going to ask a very well respected author if she can do anything with it.

And have you read Alone, Lost, and Found, or its interlude Everyday For Us Something New? Cause if so, then you'll just have to wait. :D

I didn't know that you had written that! You must have written it during my internet absence. I am re-reading my Sookie Stackhouse books right now to see what the show has messed up. When I get done reading those, that is the first thing I will read, 'cos you know I loves me some Dean and Spike adventure :-P

I blame the evil genius that is Kripke.

Mc G is pretty evil also

And are you with me when I say that Castiel needs his own show? He is so droolworthy ::wiping chin:::

I didn't know that you had written that! You must have written it during my internet absence.

I started posting Alone, Lost, And Found in January. Then the site ate it, and I had to repost it, losing most of my reviews cause I suck at reading directions...

And this series is separate from my other one because I, like every other fan, wanted to know how Dean was coming back at the beginning of season four.

And I am so with you on Castiel. Misha Collins is completely awesome. Have you seen his Twitter page? Or any of his Con videos? Dude is completely cracky! He calls his fans Minions.

Sooo... I guess this trying to find a "writing buddy" is a bit like blind dating.

Maybe I should have been a bit more specific on a few points.

1. I am looking for someone who is also interested in writing the Spuffy ship.  It can be the "B" (or "C") storyline, but it should exist in some form even if it is mild.

2. I am looking for someone who is also attempting to write multi-chapter stories because I seem to be constitutionally incapable of creating anything else and it would be nice to have someone with whom I could discuss those particular challenges.

3. I am not REALLY writing 22 stories all at once in case that scared anyone off.  I'm not lacking THAT much focus.  It's just that I have these ideas that won't stop coming and so I stick 'em in my "Damn Plot Bunnies" folder so I can forget about them.  If I have any further insights into them they go into various documents for those stories.

In actuality, I have an "A" story that I am actively working on and a "B" story I switch to when I get stuck.  There is also a "C" story that has intricate plotting and character arcs for which I am actively working out a detailed outline.

I'd be happy to be more specific on any point (my process, interests, favorite stories, etc.) and I welcome questions so that we can ascertain our compatibility.  I don't know if it matters, but I do have summaries already written if you need more of an idea of what I'm aiming for without committing yourself to reading scenes or whatnot.
