New Shows

Sep 24 2009 06:34 am   #1LisFayte
Ok, I watched Eastwick tonight, and I must say that I really enjoyed it, I didn't think I would, but I did, If you didn't watch, I would suggest you find it on the 'net and watch. I think I am going to give VD up and watch Flash-Forward instead, thursdays are bad enough with 2 of my favorite shows, Fringe and Supernatural up against each other. Does anyone have any new shows they are excited about?

You are so right nmcil! I can't get enough of Nathan ;) And I keep wanting to watch Glee, but can't seem to remember when it's on, so I keep missing it, I think I'll have to find it on-line to play catch up. Lets hope that Flash-Forward is as good (or better) than the hype.

I'm loving Glee, it's so my guilty pleasure right now.  Also glad Castle is back, love me some Nathan.  I decided to pass on Eastwick, I'm watching too much as it is.  I wanted to see Cougar Town, but I already have two things on at that time.  I might decide to check that one out online, I heard it was really funny.  I watched the premiere of Mercy, and I'm really liking it so far.
When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.

Thursdays are bad for me too. There's Supernatural, Bones, and The Mentalist, (which premiers tonight). I'm just glad that I've got two t.v's that I can tape stuff on and that here in Canada we get east and west channels. It makes taping shows much easier when they come on twice. :D

And I watched Eastwick as well. I liked it.  Plus it has Paul Gross and he's freaking hot too. :D

For now, I'm going to try to limit my viewing to Castle, Glee, and Dollhouse. Oh, and Project Runway, which is required viewing to my budding costume-designer daughter. Anything else, I'll just have to wait for the DVDs. Well, depending on what BBC America comes up with.

I tried Vampire Diaries, and :wall:

I tried Vampire Diaries, and :wall:

Yeah I gave up after one and the last 15 minutes of the show.  I so am watching FlashForward!  That is one show you can't miss...It's the type if you miss it your literally lost.  AND they soooooo showed the coming previews of V!!!! Sqeeeeeee!!!!!

Mondays I watch One Tree Hill and thinking I am gonna pass on Accidentally on Purpose - she (Jenna Elfman) was better on Dharma and Greg or movies.  Then I watch Gossip Girl.  I never got into Castle and I actually keep falling asleep before then and well my dvr is broken...Yeah I still haven't exchanged it yet...

Tuesday's I totally nixed 90210 and Melrose Place and moved myself completely to CBS.  Watching NCIS and NCIS: LA and TOTALLY LOVIN The Good Wife!!!!!!

I'm kicking myself cuz I missed Mercy but then again I am watching America's Next Top Model with my daughter and that's our thing so I'm not giving that up...It's Mom and daughter time - she comes first...If I want Mercy then I exchange the damn dvr or catch it online lol.  I had issues with 9pm I love SVU but nuhuh GLEE totally kicks it out of place - plus I can catch the repeat on Saturday if I'm around or just watch reruns on USA lol.

Totally kicking my self AGAIN cuz I missed Eastwick?  Really how was it?  It's has mixed reviews, I heard.

Nixed VD watching FlashForward.  LOVE THIS SHOW!  I'm serious it's one that you can't miss and will need to dvr also.  You want to notice the small clues so you can totally guess the next episode!  Then I watch Fringe.  I lmao when I realized it was an FF & F night for me lol.  I will catch the older shows online or in repeats cuz these are my two shows, lol....TOTALLY LOVE BOTH!

Fridays I'm either asleep (lol) or watching Smallville.  I never got into Dollhouse and I tried one episode and was really not into it, but I have enough to watch lol.  Never mind movie channels too!  Damn we all watch too much television (that includes movies) LOL.

What is the deal with Thursdays? I'm trying to watch Bones, Fringe, FlashForward, The Office, Parks & Recreation, and Community, all on the same night! Clearly, I need a DVR.

FlashForward and Community are the only new shows I'm watching. I'm cautiously optimistic about FF - I really like the mysterious sci-fi-ish premise and the beginning with all the aftermath of the blackout was awesome, but it kinda lost me in the second half when it seemed like everyone just adjusted to this worldwide cataclysmic disaster and acted like the only concern was figuring out what happened. I would've preferred if they'd shown more of the effects of all the destruction. Like, why is the hospital not overflowing with injured people? How are the roads already safe to drive on? How are people with professions like doctor and FBI agent able to go home at the end of the day instead of being overwhelmed with crises? But the premise and the bombshell at the end were intriguing enough that I'll tune in next week.

Community is pretty funny, although it's definitely broad and Scrubs-like with its jokes, whereas I like my humor a little more realistic. I liked the pilot better than the second episode this week, so we'll see how it goes from there.

Friday night is turning into a good night of TV - they now have three good shows to choose from - Good thing that SyFy does repeats - and that Numbers is available On Demand I believe that Smallville in now going to be on Friday night too  - not that I ever watched it unless JM was on.

Watched the last three episodes and not shown episode today while working and waiting for Dollhouse tonight -

I now have Smallville, Ghost Whisperer, and Dollhouse to watch on Friday nights.  It's a good thing I have no life, so I'm always here.   My Thursday's and Monday's are pretty packed as well, I'm watching way too much stuff.
Sep 29 2009 04:17 am   #12Joyce
My two TV nights are Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, I watch Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and The Mentalist. Friday, I watch Smallville and Dollhouse. Why did they switch Smallville to Friday? Now I'm missing Ghost Whisperer.
Sep 29 2009 06:34 am   #13Tammy
Yeah, I have to record Ghost Whisperer now.  I actually think that was a smart move, though.  Putting a new show like Vampire Diaries on Thursday night, and moving Smallville, who has already been on so long to the death slot.  In my opinion, new shows should never premiere on Fridays.  It's just a shame they didn't think about that with Dollhouse.

In my opinion, new shows should never premiere on Fridays.

Well, it's kind of a blessing and a curse. Shows definitely get less viewers on Fridays, but networks know that, which means their expectations are lower. A niche show like Dollhouse is going to get a small audience no matter what night it's on. But whereas that size audience would be a pathetic 4th place showing Monday through Thursday, it might actually be respectable enough for a Friday that the show gets renewed.

And now that they can track DVR and online viewing, it doesn't matter so much whether you watch a show when it airs or not. People may not want to watch TV on Friday night, but Dollhouse fans are generally dedicated enough to catch up if they miss an episode - it had (relatively) high numbers for Live+7, which definitely counted in its favor for renewal.

As I have no Tivo or DVR, my worst nights are Mondays with House and Heroes, and Thursdays with Supernatural and Fringe.
Did anyone watch the season premire of Dexter? I had already watched it online, as it had been leaked, but how awesomely creepy was John Lithgow as The Trinity Killer? I can't wait for the next episode, and if you don't get Showtime, you can watch at Project Free TV (all seasons) You can also watch Being Human and both seasons of True Blood.

Thanks ever for the Project Free TV link - good way to do "catch-up" for Being Human and True Blood -

As for keeping track of The Dollhouse online viewers - I always try to support programs that I really like and especially Joss Whedon and the other genre programs by watching episodes online in addition to regular TV screenings.  While online viewing is not particularly important for Huge Hits like House or Lost online viewing success is really important to a series like The Dollhouse and the other genre shows and channels like SyFy -

Project Free TV is great for catching shows you may have missed, but I have to warn you, only use the Z-Share (if available) if it doesn't have that link, use the Megavideo link. Megavideo will sometimes have a  pop-up after you press play, just x out of it and hit play again then you should have no trouble, though sometimes it says you have watched 72 minutes and have to wait to watch more, just refresh and FF to where you were. NEVER use Smotri, or the Japanese links (viruses)
I have decided to give VD another chance, I have heard that the last couple of episodes were pretty good, and I don't know if it was my mood, or I have adult ADD, but Flashforward is kinda boring me. So I aven't really found a new show that has captured my interest very much.
The returning shows on the other hand have me captivated, Dexter is a prime example, I can't get enough of this show, and John Lithgow is VERY creepy as the Trinity Killer, if you haven't watched this show GO WATCH! I have been enjoying Supernatural a lot too, and I want to join in one of Castiel's orgies :D That was so funny! Heroes, House, Dollhouse, and Fringe are also very good this season.

LisFayte - thanks for the vital info on Project Free TV -

I have been watching Flashforward, will stay with it for a while see how it develops - Supernatural I have been enjoying very much since it first started.  Castle is another one that I am enjoying - just a plain and simple hour of TV.  I am going to have to see about trying to do some limited catch-up for Dexter and then watch on itunes - John Lithgow can be very creepy.  Think we watch a lot of the same programs.

I did watch the new Stargate Universe on SyFy - I try so hard to support that station, but not sure that I am going to much care for this new take on the Stargate series - I am very excited about their new Caprica series.

What I am finding is that Buffy really changed my TV viewing tastes - I much prefer one long arc or what was done with Torchwood's "Children of Earth" - one story arc taken over for several episodes.  For a show like "Castle" having a new adventure/story each week is OK, but this format does not seem to engage my interest with a SciFi or Horror series anymore.  These season long arcs is one of the very good things that came out with the Whedon programs.

What is the Project TV URL?  (If you posted it, I missed it.)

Thanks, Eowyn.  You helped de-stress me.  I was worried about the fate of Dollhouse when I saw it is on Friday (that killed the original Star Trek back in the 1960s), but the way you pointed out that it may be a good thing makes me feel better.  And I'll be sure to watch it online, too, if they really count those "hits".

The Whedon actors reunite a lot.  How great is it to see "Wesley" on Dollhouse along with "Faith" and "Fred".  I can just imagine how much fun the actors are having getting to be together again.  Plus I hear what's-her-name from Firefly will be in an arc over several episodes later this season.  Now if he can just bring JM in as a guest star.  sigh...

Don't forget to watch James on Lie to Me next Monday night!!!!!   *Happy dance*   (Edited after reading a comment below--you're right, it's THIS Monday )night!)

I love seeing Alexis on Dollhouse working with Eliza again, I just wish he had a scene with Amy, but she won't be involved much this season.  And I'll be looking forward to when Summer Glau shows up later on.  I would like to see James on the show, but apparently he did something to piss off Eliza and said it wasn't likely he would be on it now.  It really makes you wonder what he did.  As for his Lie to Me episode, I believe that's on tomorrow night.  I don't watch the show, so I'll have to record it.

Keep in mind, view counts at sites like megavideo & zshare aren't counted toward official view totals, nor are torrent downloads. For views to matter, stick with Hulu if you can for free viewing, check the network's website (some have streaming episodes), or buy episodes from iTunes. Don't get me wrong, I use the, er, less-than-official streaming sites all the time, but for shows I actually care about staying on the air, I try to go through official sites as often as I can. I recognize these options aren't always available for folks outside of the U.S., I just wanted to get that info out there for those of us who do live here. :)

At one of his concerts, he mentioned that he wrote a song about her (which is less than flattering). Could be what pissed her off.

Yeah, but he wrote that song a while ago.  I got the impression it was something that happened recently.

Or maybe she just now found out about the song, that could be it.  He didn't reveal right away who it was about.  Either way, that sucks because I really would have liked to see him on Dollhouse.

Hi, it isn't exactly a new show, but I have a question about Torchwood.  I just found season 2 in the library and got it so that I could watch James (and rewatch, and then watch the episode yet again!!!)  I'd never seen Torchwood but got hooked on the series.  Is it true that it went off the air after 2 seasons?  Is it also true that they have decided to make 5 more new episodes anyway?  (I can't imagine the show without Tosh in it, but if they bring back James, it would be a great consolation!!!)

Oct 08 2009 10:56 pm   #28FetchingMadScientist
Torchwood has 2 full seasons and a "Miniseries" called "Children of Earth."  I think it is on dvd now.  The show is "on the bubble" and I don't know anything about its fate, but it doesn't look good for "Captain Jack " and his team.
Oct 08 2009 11:36 pm   #29LisFayte
Hey Sensei, there where only 2 seasons of Torchwood, plus a 5 part mini-series, I don't know if they plan to make more episodes, but you can watch all episodes here:

Torchwood was very popular and there is still a very good chance that it will be have another season - it may be as another mini-series or a format that works with several long arcs in place of weekly episodes - which frankly is what I would like - the monster of the week format is something that I don't find especially satisfying now.

     Battlestar Galatica  - new series

Please try to watch the new Caprica Series - help support Scifi and Horror genre on television - Please stop by the station official website, watch online - let this struggling channel know that you support its effort to bring SciFi programs and horror programs to TV.  They have spent a lot of money trying to get an audience for this prequel to the very excellent and popular Battlestar Galatica Series.

REMEMBER - James Marsters will be a guest for one of the arc - Please try to watch - it repeats couple of times tonight on the SyFy channel.
