Anya/Anyanka?

Okay I'm in the middle of writing a story and I have a plot twist I need a little help with. With Glory we found out that demons or at least vamps were immune to her Ben/Glory time share mojo. In the story I am working on there is a different big bad and she is able to thrall humans and put them under her will but it doesn't work for demons so Spike would be immune. I was wondering if anyone has any idea's of whether or not I could work in that Anya is immune also because of her past as a vengeance demon? Does anyone know if they ever really explained what happened to Anya. I know she's human but would it be reasonable or believable that she might retain some demon blood or something that would give her immunity?

I think you could make it work just fine.  I'd find it believable.   With Anya having switched forms a few times, I'd certainly believe that she retained something that connected her to her demon self.  What season are you placing this story in?

Season 5. Okay she was human then a demon for 1120 years then human again. So I guess it would be plausible that something remained. Nothing tangible but some kind of essence of the demon? She seemed to be able to switch back and forth easily so I would assume something had to be there or wouldn't it have been painful? I mean in season 6 she went back to being a demon and then in season 7 she switched back to human again.

Thanks for the input, I've been racking my brain trying to see if this would work or not! I really want it to be believable. So thank you very much.

She had an amulet that she wore around her neck when she was a demon. She became human again when Giles smashed it. I can't recall if she was given a new one when she went back to being a demon or not. That may be one of those little things that fell through the cracks when they were switching her back and forth in season 6 and 7, but you should probably check it out before you write about it. She doesn't switch back and forth - she gets demonized by D'Hoffryn, who is also, I think, who takes her powers away in season VII. I don't remember if he gave her a new amulet, or just grantd her desire to become a demon again.

By switching I just meant that it seemed to be a relativetly easy experience. I mean becoming a vamp seems painful with all the dying and everything. But when Giles smashed her amulet she was pissed but not hurt. And when D'Hoffryn made her into a demon again after the wedding there didn't seem to be any side effects. The same when he took it all away again in season 7. One minute she's a demon and the next Hallie is dead and Anya is human again. Except for her remorse it looked like an easy transition for her.

So for a second opinion do you think that something might have remained in Anya from her demon days? Something that would grant her an immunity like Spike had against Glory's mojo? The plot I have right now has demons immune to a thrall from a big bad. I would like to have Anya have such an immunity but only if it is plausible that because she was a demon for so long something remained after she became human again. The story is set in season 5.

Well, she's able to hollar for Hallie whenever she wants/needs her, so maybe? I can't think of anything that contradicts it - I just don't think it ever came up. Certainly the other demons and vampires all treated her like a regular human, so that argues against any residual demonic traces, but it's your story. If you think you can make it believable, go for it. You could mention in your summary that you are assuming Anya had not completely shed her demoness after having been one for so long and just make it a fact for the story. Just as you would give a quick explanation of anything different in any other AU world.

Ah, I thought you were saying she did the switching herself. Sorry!

She loses her powers when Giles in the Wishverse smashes her amulet, but I don't see how that translates into her becoming human.  So maybe she never really becomes a human, she just can't access her demon powers and make her face all veiny and grant wishes or teleport around.  Maybe she lies about being human because she's scared of the Initiative and she wants to fit in some where.  Also have sex with Xander and we all know how much he likes demons.  Not.
If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who?

I can work with that. Won't Xander be surprised when he finds out! LOL

Another way to work with your thrall regarding Anya is that because of the nature of her very strong will power and nature of her mind, that she is not suseptible to being put under thrall.  In the Blood Ties series, the vampire Henry Fitzroy is not able to thrall Vicky Nelson because of her very strong character and mental capabilities.  Buffy was also able to throw off Drac's thrall power over her as well from being able to access her own strong will.  It seems to me that Anya having been a demon for such a long period, it would effect how her mind works - and the series does show that she is very different and removed from her human friends and the human.
With a  Anya/Demon life experiences plot element, you don't have to create a new or special magic source for her conduct.   It could also be used to bring in the idea for Anya that think about what makes her so different and if she even wants to become a more normal human.

Good Luck with your new story - look forward to reading it.  I think Anya was one of the most poorly used characters in the series - with all those years of life and having seen how life and emotions play on people and other demons - she would have learned a great deal about people.  She would have lived through so many pivotal events in history, it never made in sense to me that she would have been so narrow in her perspectives about life.

Well I have issues with how all the females on the show were treated but that's a whole different topic! LOL

You're right though Buffy was able to throw off Drac's thrall just by force of will so it wouldn't be far fetched for Anya to be able to do it too. IMO Xander made Anya weak. The way he treated her and shut her up all the time made her feel less than human. Even though he (in his mind) was trying to get her to act more human.

Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it!

Buffy was able to throw off Drac's thrall just by force of will  - only after she sucked his blooooooooddd.......  :)

Actually, Anya had powers before she became a vengeance demon.  She turned Olaf into a troll all by herself.  Go Anya!  Or Aud!
