New Writers on the BSV

Mar 11 2007 10:11 pm   #1LisFayte

I have noticed there are a lot of new writers and readers here at the BSV, I would like to say welcome. I would also like to ask them to introduce themselves, and tell us a little about the type of fic they like to read or write.

I posted my first fic in September 2006. Do I qualify as new?

It's a secret no one tells
One day it's heaven one day it's hell
And it's no fairytale take it from me
That's the way it's supposed to be

You will fly and you will crawl
God knows even angels fall
No such thing as you lost it all
God knows even angels fall

Hey FA, you posted around the same time that I did.

I'm also kinda semi new, but not really new new.  I don't consider myself new because I know almost everyone on here now.  <.<  >.>

But for those I don't, I'll introduce myself anyway.  I go by the name TwilightChild, though its twilightschild or Twilightchild999 on other sites.  I started writing fanfics when I was 13, but sucked at it, so I quit.  Then, I got into BTVS and had way too many stories popping up in my head, and decided to exercise my writing muscle, since I plan to do it professionally one day, anyway.

I write everything, but its always Scifi/fantasy.  I never write all human fics...because...well...the characters are not all human.  I always like to stay true to a show with the characters that aren't mine.

Romance, angst, comedy, dark, light and fluffy, you name it and I write it.  My more recent stories have been pushing bounderies, but its just one of the things I do.  I try to get a little bit of everything in a fic.

I'm a great fan of alot of the writers here, including DoS, ZoeGrace (Boy aren't those some opposites?)  Slaymesoftly, Bloodshedbaby, and many, many many others.

In RL, I'm probably the baby in this whole group.  I'm only 19 years old, soon to turn 20, I can already drink half of you under the table, and I'm a former model and professional wrestler.  I get thrown around and dropped on my head for a living.  You can never EVER say I don't work hard for my money.

Salute.

Mar 11 2007 10:54 pm   #5daniel_nieves

hey hows it going, I'm about to post a new fic tomorrow probably. I've been a member of BSV for a couple months only I never posted anything until now, so it's great meeting you guys.

Spuffy peed on Angel...
Mar 11 2007 11:14 pm   #6ZoeGrace

hahaha TC, yes, me and DoS are complete opposites in every way imaginable hehe.  And thank you for the compliment. :)

And yep, you're a baby, I'm almost 28 ZOMG oldness! ;)

Mar 11 2007 11:41 pm   #7slaymesoftly

You're all children!  LOL  Welcome everyone.  This was a great idea, LisFayte.

Back on the old verse, we had a section called "Readers" or something like that where people who were reading on the site could post a bit about themselves - and of course, since all the writers are also readers, we all did it too.  I guess our "member listings" take the place of that now, but unless you know to go look, you don't necessarily know when somebody new joins us. So, this was a good idea.  I hope more people chime in.

And, thank you, TC!

Hello everyone!  I'm semi-new I guess. I started posting in June 2006. I had started writing fan fiction when I was 16 yrs old, some sucked others didn't. I stopped writing about 5yrs ago because I'd post a story and get nothing but silence. It was very disheartening. The people on this site have helped me to start writing again and for that I say "Thanks!". It's a good thing since I want to get published one day. :P

I'll try my hand at writing almost anything but I prefer long stories with complex plots.

And finally Zoe! Stop talking about being old! I'm already 28 and I'm not old. :P

I'm technically new- I started posting here about a month or two ago, but posted on the original site last year at some point, I think.  I discovered fan fiction during season 6- I believe one of the first stories that I read was by Gillian Silverlight.  Anyway, I decided to write my first fic after the end of season six, and it was straight.  I got better with time, though a lot of my fics are in WIP hell.

I enjoy Spuffy, obviously.  But as I began reading some of my fave authors, they introduced me to other pairings- Kallysten showed me Spangel.  Theohara showed me Spawn.  And Julia the Younger showed me Spara.  Those are the types I enjoy, along with time travel fics, certain all human fics (besides Echidna's "A Touch of Jealousy" and Nauti Bitz's "Crash and Burn" or "Older," I'm not too fond of the AH high school fics- they're just not well done. "Blue Horizons," a college fic, is a good one too. Oh, and baby fics, crossovers (with Angel only- I just don't get it really with other shows, at least, so far), episode rewrites (obviously), and... I can't think of anything else at the moment.

hahaha LadyY I don't really think I'm old.  Now, my husband, he's old.  40! (in less than 2 weeks.)

Mar 12 2007 01:45 am   #11LisFayte

Zoe! You must think I am old as dirt if you think Tom is old at 40 :D

Hi guys, I'm definitely new - I've been here maybe three weeks now. I started writing fan fiction in high school - for the TV show Sliders... anyone else watch that? In any case, my minor obsession with that show was what introduced me to online forums and fanfiction. I wrote The West Wing fanfic in college, but never posted it anywhere, because it was basically a Mary Sue to indulge my fantasy of working in the White House.

I didn't really watch BtVS until after the show was off the air - my college roommates senior year had both an obsession and the Chosen collection, the perfect recipe to create a new fan. I watched 12 seasons of television in two semesters. Twelve. All of Buffy. All of Angel. (Can you say senioritis?) I couldn't remember when exactly I started writing Buffy fanfic, so I went back and looked at the creation dates for some of my Word files... apparently, I started around March of 2006, which is a lot earlier than I would've guessed.

I don't really have a particular genre... I just write whatever comes out. I feel like I stick pretty close to the tone of the show - some angst mixed with humor, not too much you couldn't watch on network television.  Pretty much everything is Spuffy in nature, though I do like the other characters, so a lot of my stories end up with the whole ensemble. I am also physically unable to write anything less than 5 chapters long.

Writing should feel easy, like a monkey driving a speed boat.
Mar 12 2007 04:26 am   #14TwilightChild

oooo!  Sliders!  I remember that show!  I was a bit of a Sliders freak myself for a little while, but back then I had never even contemplated the idea of fanfiction.

Mar 12 2007 04:29 am   #15Verity Watson
Hey, LisFayte, thanks for the welcome!

I started posting here in January '07 - though I'd previously posted at BS Central starting in August '06.

In RL, I'm a writer/researcher for a university center. We're bringing in an expert on online communities tomorrow, so this is a particularly appropriate thread. ;)

I'll read anything that's done well, though I'm definitely all about Spuffy. I tend *not* to read longer fics, not because I don't like them but because I have a 2 year-old who is terribly jealous of my MacBook and tends to attack it if I stare at the screen too long. So unless I catch it in early chapters and manage to stay more or less up-to-date, I rarely read them.

I'm forever amazed at how many inventive writers are out there, and I'm happy to be among such a talented bunch!

Woohoo, TC! Sliders solidarity! I didn't even know what fan fiction was, until I discovered some people on the Sliders boards were writing stories... and they were better than the show at that point. I had an idea, and the other writers encouraged me to run with it, so I did several short "episodes" of an AU season 5. I actually turned one of them in as a creative writing assignment for my high school English class, and I got an A, so I guess they were pretty good, but my writing has definitely improved since then.

Writing should feel easy, like a monkey driving a speed boat.

I found fan fiction in 1995/1996 when Vampire Chronicles fic was still allowed. I wrote some small stories in that fandom. :sigh: I miss that fandom. It had some really good stories.

I'm new, I'm new, ok, I;m not, but still, lol. I started posting here at the new site in 2006, but I was posting on the old site back in 2005, hee hee hee. I remember sliders I loved that show. Wonders off to find DVDs of the eppies.

Oh, yeah, and welcome to the new posters. *yay*

Mar 12 2007 06:47 am   #19Inzey

I'm new

I'm Inzey, or Ine, and I'm 17.
I have been reading BtVS fan fiction since April or May 2006, after I had seen all the episodes. I began writing in August the same year, when I started in a new school. I wrote on whatever I could get my hands on.

I mainly read Spuffy, which I began reading at Tales of the Slayer.

Mar 12 2007 08:26 am   #21ClawofCat

Hello all! I just registered as a member this past week to put up my first fic, so I'm brandy new. Christ, I think I've been reading Buffy fanfic for 5 or 6 years now. I started out with Spuffy, which is still my favorite pairing, but I'm pretty flexible and will usually try out anything het with Spike. I like my fic angsty and occasionally dark. Suffering allows for a lot of character exploration, and I'd say most of the characters of BtVS had their fair share of pain. That being said, I also like to write angst and as a goal want to try and write some smutty Spuffy stories that feature some rarely seen sexual kinks in the fandom. Heehee, I'll be having fun with that.

I've been doing journalistic writing for 3 years now since I got to college and am relieved to try some creative writing again. News can be very straight, so I'm loving my return to colorful, descriptive writing. Oh yeah, and I write about religion for the paper. Who knows how that and the smut might collide  *goes off with a maniacal gleam in her eye*

Mar 12 2007 10:29 am   #22Caro Mio

I've been here almost a year as an author, so not very new. Been writing fanfic since May 2005, and started posting a month later at the now defunct Beyond Twilight. Then FF.net, and BSC got my first Spuffy fic. Eventually branched out to here and SR.......and now I write half Spike/OC and half Spuffy. Cuz there are times when I can barely stand Buffy without wanting to kill her for how she is to Spike, LOL. And there are times you just want to put the guy with a girl with less hang-ups!!

Anyway, I'm 29 - 30 in June - so most of you are young'ins! :P

What If I'm Not the Slayer? now updated with chapters 22 and 23.

Caro Mio, I hear that 30 is the new 21. ;)

Hey there, I'm a new reader and a writer in spe. That is, when I get the first chapters of my story from my beta ;) Also, I'm a foreigner - from Poland in the Middle Europe. So do forgive me my eventual mistakes - hopefully there won't be many of them :)

Well, I'm just a reader who sometimes posts on the forum.  I do a lot of writing, but it's all prose -- so I doubt I'll ever write fanfiction.  But I really appreciate those who do.  I'm a middle-aged student (yikes!).  I only read Spike-centric fanfiction.  Not sure whether I prefer Spara to Spuffy or vice versa, but there's a million more Spuffy fics out there, so Spuffy it is.  I like any fic that gives me new insight into the characters.

Mar 12 2007 08:28 pm   #27beanie

I'm new to this site but not to fanfiction.    I didn't even start watching Buffy until after the show was over.  Thank Goodness for reruns.  Then I discovered fanfiction and my life was complete.

I'm 17, but I started writing when I was 14.  My plots were good, but my writing skill, not so much.  I think that's improved now.  I've learned a lot from the other authors and reading other stories.

I don't really have a category I write for, just whatever pops in my head I guess.  My first fics were posted at BSC.

My favorite authors include bittenandstaked, Eurydice, Addie Logan and many others.

I pretty much read whatever interests me which usually turns out to be romance, angst(just a little) or fluff.

Mar 12 2007 08:55 pm   #28GoldenBuffy

My real age is 28 but when asked I'm 26, lol. I'll be 26 for at least five years ROFL.

My fav. authors are many, Bloodshedbaby got me totally hooked on the bitey goodness that is Spike. Before I read her fics I had no idea people wrote Spike bitting Buffy, lol. She's also the one who took me under her wing told me about betas, helped me out on a few chapters of one of my fics, and the BSV was the second site that I started posting at. That was back in 2005. I used to write X-files fics before I knew there was a thing called fanfiction. I did those in high school, even submitted one for English class got an A+. I write a bit for CSI:LV and enjoy reading fics on all three shows, as well as Bones too.

Cool thread this, I really like reading about all the new (or not so new) people. But please, please, please, do me a favor ladies. Stop mentioning your age if you're under 18! You're probably not aware of this, but once the fact that you're not legal yet has been stated publicly, I can't allow you to post NC-17 fic. It's fine as long as I/the site isn't aware of a minor reading/writing NC-17, but if I/we know (and others can figure out that fact) that'd be invinting trouble.

I guess I am relatively new to fanfiction. I never watched the show when it was on the air - I started watching it in syndication while my son was down for his daily nap.  That was about 3 years ago, and since then - Spuffy is my favorite "guilty pleasure". I started reading fanfic about 6 months ago and have since been reading daily !  I'm not a writer... responding to forums and leaving reviews causes me enough anxiety, so thanks to all the very talented writers who share their work with us.

GB why lie about your age.  28 isn't bad.  Embrace 28.  Use the force.

Mar 13 2007 04:56 am   #33GoldenBuffy

ROFL I shall use the force. It's not so much as me not liking 28, it's a lovely number. I guess I just feel younger than I am. And 28 just reminds me that I'm not in high school anymore making inside jokes with my BFs and singing about Lion King, lol. We were so corny. I shall embrace 28. See me embracing?

Don't worry GB, you can still do that at 28. Only now you make inside jokes with your husband and still sing about the Lion King, or in my case say random movie quotes. :P ("This is my BOOM stick!")

As for the age of our husbands, I was born exactly two weeks before my husband's first birthday.  :)

I'm one of the newbies :) I joined this site a few weeks (or months??) back. My first fanfic that I ever wrote was for cluedo... yes the board game. Me n my friend were obsessed with the game back in the day but got so sick of playing we came up with our own mysteries to solve... lol... we had fun :) I also gave one into my teacher, and she loved it so much she read it out to the class, and then made everyone solve the mystery. :) I was quite proud :D lol!! Then i got involvde with the Superman fandom... and then I found Buffy and my life will never be the same again... in a good way!! :)

I've started writting a few Spuffy fics, but havent posted any here... yet. Posted at 2 other sites under a different name, but wanting to wait until it's finished, or at least til I've written a few more chapters til I post here.... *runs away to blackmail muse into working* *runs back, after quickly realising I have no blackmailing material on my muse* :P oh well, just have to wait....

I'm a girl with a one track mind when it comes to Spuffy... anything else makes me :hurl: I'm 18 and from the land down under and I luuuuuuurve the smutty stuff (but then again, who doesn't!!!) hehe I"m trying to work my way through all the authors on this site. lol When i'm bored I usually go to the authors page and click on a random author and see if I like any of their fics. So far I'm in love with (in no particular order) Slaymesoftly, Twilightchild, Sandy, SpikesDeb, Angelic_Amy and Addie Logan to name a few off the top of my head... also I check this site probly once every 3 minutes for an update from DreamsofSpike  lol If I didn't mention you, that's probly cause I haven't read anything by you yet!! I don't think I've come across a story I haven't liked on this site yet... I'm amazed by the unbelievable talent all you writers possess

I usually stick to the lighter, fluffier (smuttier) side of Spuffy, but I love angsty and dark fics too... when I'm in the mood for the reality side of Spuffy lol. *Mutters angry curse words at writers for making Buffy such a blind bitch*

haha as you can probly tell I like to joke around a lot. hehe

anywayz, here ends my life story.

Cheers!!

peace out xox

Don't worry, be happy :)

*giggles* lady, my humour far surpasses my husband's. He doesn't understand me ROFL. He would never undersand the Lion King, I mean as far as to why I sing it, lol. But we do have inside jokes.

Hey YourMyDream I'm doing a shameless plug here lol. But if you like Spuffy pregnancy fics I'm working on one now, It Happened One Night. But I think it's pretty safe to say it's not your normal pregnancy fic.

I'm in the same boat, anything crazy and nutty that I've picked up all came from hubby. He's bad, lol.

YourMyDream I'm glad the shameless plug worked, lol. ANd I'm also glad you're enjoying the fic. I have chapter 14 off with my wonderfuul beta, but since it's horse jumoing season there I have no clue when she'll get back with me, lol. Don't worry about forgetting I do it all the time. I had to start fav. my the stories that I'm reading. *poor brain*

Hi there! I'm a new author to, but I haven't actually posted any stories yet... or signed up yet! I am planning to sign up soon, but I can't think of a nickname to use (don't really like using my real name, and 'B' which I write reviews under, is too short). When I do I will have signed up. I will also likely be asking for (read: begging for) a beta reader pretty soon so I figure I better introduce myself first!

I have been part of the Buffy fandom (my first proper fandom) for... I guess...wow 5-6 years now? I started watching repeats of season 1 on Sky and when BBC were first showing season 3 I think, though I didn't get properly obsessed until season 4 was being shown on BBC first time. Oh which kind of gives away the fact I'm in the UK. I discovered online fandom when I watched the end of OOMM in season 5 and my jaw dropped and I wanted to find out more so thought I could search on the internet. Then I started reading fics pretty soon after. (Pretty much always been Spuffy to. That was probably because I was re-watching old episodes at the same time as season 4, and so got to see Becoming prt 2, and Something Blue around the same time, and so started my love for the couple. Then OOMM came and I was hooked).

I've been writing for years but not shown anyone a thing, apart from the occasional beta reader. I have never been able to find a good beta reader, some just never wrote back, some gave me my work back but barely changed a thing, even though I could see some mistakes myself on a re-read. It's made me a bit paranoid about showing people my fic, but I'm getting braver and I've got one I definitely want to post. A few actually. Currently in my 'good' fics folder, one's I'm likely to want to show people and finish, I have 4 fics, totalling about 60,000 words!

Anyhow, that's enough rambling from me! Love all the authors here and this is my favourite spuffy site. The fic quality is soo high. So that was the longest 'Hello' ever, but oh well! :)

Tee hee....I'm so far from new they didn't even put expiration dates on yet!!

For those who don't know me, I'm one of the elders (gulp), Born the same year as Tony Head (and always wince when Giles is called old in fic!), 1954...that makes me 52.  Your age means not a thing as many people my age are childish idiots and many a young person is wise and talented.  Your work speaks for itself as it should.

Wanted to say welcome to the lovely new readers and writers.  I try to get around to reading everyone's work eventually and always try to comment.  I'm so excited we are keeping these characters alive (well, for the most part....some we kill off and some we beg to have killed off!).  Keep the stories coming.

I sure know how you feel as I am 45 :D A lot of the writers here are the same age or younger than my children, but I like to think that I am young at heart. And really, we are not that old, it is just that there are a lot of young-uns here :)

Hey All!

I'm a new writer too - always loved Buffy and fanfic, and decided to try my hand also, I'll let you know how that works out!

I love the BSV because I really feel like everyone is so helpful and friendly, and just want to enjoy writing and reading as much as I do. Plus, I have had the most fantastic help and advice by the betalist here - Bloody Tears Of Life. It's really nice to be part of something that is so welcoming!

Thanks! Fia

Hey B,

Don't worry you'll fin dyourself a good beta. Some people eventhough the offer to beta your work get iffy when it comes to changing and suggesting things. They don't want to "mess" with your work. I think I went through five betas before I found mine, and she landed in my lap. Another very talented author introduced us to each other and it's been smooth sailing ever since. *hugs beta*

Hey, I noticed this post a little late as I am out of the country at the moment, but since it asked for info on readers as well as authors, I thought I'd jump in. I've actually been responding for quite some time and reading for longer, but I never introduced myself to anyone, so this seemed like a good opportunity. I'm currently finishing up a law degree in the States, and have no clue (well, little clue) what I'm going to do with it when I finish. I always read fantasy novels growing up, but never any fanfic until after college. Then I wandered through fanfics until I encountered Buffy and so may be one of the few individuals who started reading Buffy fanfic before watching the episodes. After reading it for a while, I went out and bought the DVDs. I adore a number of the authors of this site, too many to mention (also, I'm afraid that in my current sleepy state, I'd forget one of my favs and be sad about it afterwards), and find myself compulsively checking for updates between classes. I sadly have no skill at writing fiction, so I will continue to read and marvel at the rest of you.

But you are older than my parents you know

*giggles back*.....I'm just delighted I'm not in the grandparent category yet!  I may be 52 but inside I'm probably in my early 30s.......I held off maturing until then and I am mature but still young at heart (now if my eyelids would just reappear and my everything else would stop pointing  to the south pole I'd be happy).

I think that's why lusting after Spike works since he's much older than me and just licking the screen at JM feels a bit odd since he's a good 7 years younger.

ROFL at all the age stuff.  One of the fun things (IMHO) about online friends/acquaintances is that you get to talk with and get to know people whom you otherwise might not if you both knew that there was a big age gap.  Amyb and I became friends on here long before we met in person and I found that I had shoes older than she is. :) If someone is immature, it is clear without their telling you how old they are; and if you are close enough in age with someone to have a lot of things in common, that will also become  obvious as you get to know each other better.  My feeling is that it is better to wait until you have known someone a while before you start talking about ages - knowing that you are from different generations before you've had a chance to get to know them, could influence how interested you are in getting to know them better.

Am I the only one who thinks that could happen?

Bite away, lol. Though I'd like it more if Spike was doing the bitting. No, I don't want any hot flashes, my mom just got finished with menopuse like two or three months ago. Thank God it's over. *giggle*

I was the only child growing up so my only interaction with kids my age were at school and when my best friends came over or I went over their houses. So I mainly spent my time hanging with my mom and grammy. So I look at it that now I'm having my second childhood, lol. I get to live with and through my kids. I think that's why I'm so into the sims, their liking my animated Barbies, lol, or should I say Bratz.

No matter a persons age I really don't care, as long as we have things in common I'm your friend. I have RL friends ranging from 20 to 49, if you include my mom then that's 56. So no worries. :)

I prefer 39.  On my last birthday, I told people at the office that I was 39 and some of them actually believed me.  Heh heh.

I never saw Buffy while it was on, and still haven't finished Angel.  I started writing a couple of years ago after I stumbled on Allaboutspike and boiling torments.  I like to read all kinds of Spuffy story - fluffy, comedy, angst, whatever as long as Kennedy gets killed - whoops that just slipped in - but it seems whenever I write Spuffy it comes up comic.  Somebody has to be an antidote for Dreamsof Spike and Zoe.

I am a new member but have no talent at writing and I could fill a page with the names of my fave authors...I discovered BTVS and Ats after both were over but became an obsessed fan of all things Spuffy.  I like comedy, fluff, angst, and the talent of all the authors is awe inspiring to me and I am on this site daily checking for updates and reading forums and reading the funny messages when ya'll chat and laugh at your humor.  I do my best to leave reviews but forgive me if I read and get involved and wait till the end...*bashfully ducks head*

My member name is stupid but kimmy_loves_spike describes me purty well.  I am 41 and does that mean I am 20.5+20.5?  LMAO!!  I feel pretty old right now but I am just tired.

I also visit SR, VK, Dark Solace, Forbidden Kisses and Dreamsofspike's site so I stay pretty busy getting my fix.

That is enuff about me.  ^_^

well, this is just neat...

I'm Jenny, sort-of new to BSV (3 months? 4?) with 3 chapters of my second fic up (it's my first fic at this site, though). It's post-NFA and at a bit of a standstill at the moment due to the demands of graduate school admissions, my job and final year of college. But today marks the start of spring break, so hopefully I can take the week to bang out a few chapters. My beta is the ever-wonderful The Space Between.

I've always been an avid reader, and I discovered fanfic two years ago. I read and write Spuffy and not-so-secretly pine for James Marsters. (But I wouldn't kick David Boreanaz out of bed, especially now that he's lost the weight he put on during the final years of Angel...)

Kimberly you say you read the tag board. I so hope you missed me when I told DoS that I loved her fic so much that in the immortal words of Tracy Jordan (30 Rock) that I wanted to take her fic behind a high school and get it pregnant. lol. Hey all. I saw this forum and just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to introduce myself.

The name’s Kayla. I’m a newbie. Like, newbie to the extreme—I’ve been a member for less than a month.

I’ve been reading BtVS fanfiction for about a year now, and have just recently started writing some of my own.

My one and only Spuffy fic that I am currently working on is called More Than A Myth. So if you have the time, it would make my day if you gave it a read.

I’m really glad that I found this archive. Everyone is very encouraging and the feedback is great.

Hey all,

Well I've been lurking in the shadows of the BSV and these forums since about October last year, only leaving the occasional review... figured this forum was an ideal place for my forum debut! I was a big Buffy fan when it first aired and was very into the Buffy Angel relationship (please don't throw stuff) ... I wasn't old enough to appreciate ATS, couldn't handle watching Buffy without Angel, Riley made me shudder, and at the time I couldn't really relate to the growing up and going to college so I gave up.

I was reintroduced by some Buffy crazy friends just last year and went through the entire seven seasons in just a couple of months - in the midst of the intensity of the end of a uni semster with assignmnents and exams, plus pesky part time work... and became completely madly crazily obsessed, in particular with Spuffy. Even my Buffy crazy friends are regretting recommending that I give it a chance because now its all I think and breathe! They didn't help by perpetuating the obsession by giving me the whole Angel series for Christmas...

I'm not new to fan fic in general, used to be hugely into the 'The Practice' fandom back in the day. I'm a new Spuffy writer in the sense that I've been working on a few plot bunnies that I have in my brain but mostly its a series of incoherent drabbles at the moment.

Oh and the boring stuff... I'm 21, from Australia, studying human resource management at uni.

I'm not really new to fanfic, but I'm fairly new to the site. I'm 25 and I started writing X-Files fanfic when I was about 14 or so. I stopped writing fanfic after I lost interest in that show and didn't pick up again until the fifth season of Buffy. I wrote under a different name then, and that fic was not really up to par, so I decided to remove all traces of it from the internet, lol. Right now, I'm working on one story, but it's a very long and involved one, so I guess I'm entitled to focus on just that for a while.

At the moment, I'm trying to polish my writing skills in the fanfic world, because I plan to write a novel, and I want it to be good enough to actually be published.

I don't really have a favorite author, because I love all kinds of different stories. I don't like PWP (smut), because I require a lot of plot and character development to keep me happy, lol. I like angst, but prefer it to end happily.

My favorite episode of BtVS is Intervention. I could watch that over and over and never become bored with it. My favorite show currently on television is House.

And...um...I guess that's it. :)

UB! ::hugs::

Of course you already know I share some of your taste in fic. :)

I also like my stories to be very long and have a good plot with a lot of subplots thrown in. Character development is a must because without it the story seems to stall. It has also been this love of long complex stories that has gotten me into trouble on some of my own stories. They grew wildly out of control and now I have to rewrite one. There were a lot of details I missed in the original. :P

Luckily the one I'm focusing on now I went into knowing it was going to be a monster. :)

BTW- I don't mind PWP sometimes. I just prefer them to be one-shots or if there is a lot of sex in a story that it be a part of the story line and not just thrown in for the hell of it.

You know Brokenwings, I also had a Bangel stage.  When I first started watching the show the whole Buffy/Angel thing would give me a sweet little ache, and I accepted them as the main couple.  The only problem was, I could never see it going anywhere, so it never inspired me to write fanfiction.

Well, the Spuffy was different.  You know a couple is your favorite couple on the show when you're inspired to write ten fanfics and still haven't stopped.

UB, I'm a big lover of twists and turns and sub-plots, too.  I can't get enough of the good, long fics.  I rarely ever read the much shorter fics, or the PWP.

Mar 19 2007 12:55 pm   #97slaymesoftly

Because Spike was already a character by the time I was watching regularly, I didn't start out as a Bangel and couldn't really understand what all the fuss was about - then I found fx and began watching from the beginning and filling the the gaps and I understood it better and my heart ached for Buffy in all the appropriate places as that relationship crashed and burned.  I even was happy for her when she found Riley (at first).  I loved Spike, but my desire to see him with Buffy developed right along with his.  When he woke up from his "I love you" dream with a "Please, no!" it all just clicked into place for me.

Great point, TC. I can't say that I had any urge to "fix" any of Buffy's relationships until Spike.  Now I can't seem to stop. LOL

As everyone probable has seen by now, UB writes beautifully plotted, character-centric stories - we can all cheer that she has returned to writing fic, and in our fandom. :)

I don't think I have ever been a Bangel shipper. I loved the movie and I remember watching the first season and being disappointed that Pike wasn't going to be on the show. I think I resented Angel for a long while because of this, and by the time I got over it, he was Angelus.

You know sometimes I cringe at that dream, because that was the beginning of the Hell that was Spuffy. Of course I loved every moment

(well almost all), but it still makes me sad at time.  It's like "If only he knew." *sigh* I wanted Pike in S1 too. I was mad that he wasn't there.

And in the air the fireflies
Our only light in paradise
We'll show the world they were wrong
And teach them all to sing along

Aw, thanks Lady and Slaymesoftly. It's good to feel loved. :D

I hated the BtVS movie. Kristy (sp?) Swanson and Luke Perry were just the most annoying people ever, doubly so when they were together. I did adore Donald Sutherland as Merrick, though. I was disappointed they couldn't have him for the flashback of Merrick on the show...instead they had some fat old man with a mustache. But in the end, I will always love Giles best. :)

omg, I laughed so much at Paul Reubens' "death scene", that has to be one of my favourite movie scenes EVER... and I always used to watch it with my friend Ashley, so much that I actually thought Buffy said "Nice haido" at the part where she sets Rutger Hauer's hair on fire... then rewatched it and was like "Huh?" and realized we had just got in the habit of saying that every time we watched it. I'm such a dork.

.....and I know the cheer from the beginning by heart........... bad me......

Unfortunately, we had big vampires in the next room, and I didn't think they'd wait while we had hot monkey sex. ~Cerulean Sins :: (Anita to Jean-Claude)“Is there anything your bloodline does that doesn’t involve getting naked?" ~Danse Macabre :: I’m dating three men, living with two more, and having occasional sex with two others. That’s seven men. I’m like a pornographic Snow White. I think seven is plenty. ~Danse Macabre

I've never seen the movie... should I bother with it? Knowing that Joss himself doesn't like it doesn't inspire me to go watch it. Or should I just watch it for laughs?

I think many of us are naturally drawn to the 'couple' thing - I remember one year on my school diary, I had couples photos of Buffy and Angel; Dawson and Joey; Lindsay and Bobby; Doug and Carol; Sabrina and Harvey... etc etc.

Whereas I sometimes feel hatred towards Joss for his lack of ability to create a Spuffy happy ending, I actually kind of am glad that it was all left open ended for the fan to make their own choice about which couple (or no couple - I'm sure there are people who want Buffy to remain eternally single) they personally think was 'right.' I wasn't pigeon holed into thinking that Spuffy are destined for one another. I made that decision for myself. Does that make any sense whatsoever...?

Makes perfect sense, hon. :)

Sabrina and Harvey! OMgosh, they were so cute......

I liked the movie, for the corny thing it was. That's how I got introduced to this whole idea, as my boyfriend had liked it....so we watched it, and then I watched re-runs of Season 3, and then we decided to start watching the vampire shows......I probably only would have watched AtS if I hadn't seen it. ;)

Makes sense to me. Through Joss' genius ways and means he's created a show for anyone and everyone to like... with so many different types of pairings, there has to be at least one that you like! With no definite completion, you're not forced to like a particular couple, or any at all... you merely watch the show... and decide for yourself who Buffy's eternal soul mate should be... or shouldn't be....Angel, the tall, dark and handsome lover, leader of the mysterious... Riley the King of Snoredom, ruler of all things inane and Spike... ahh Spike... what can I say about him... are there words to do him justice.... ? Cares without thinking about himself... Wears his heart on his sleeve, and always tells it how it is... he's the real one for me (can you tell on only a little bit bias) lol I know there are Bangel shippers, and Biley shippers, and hundreds of other fansites devoted to those couples, and probly a lot more, but, what i'm trying to say is, that's the beauty of it. All these different people with different opinions, being united over the same show for completely different, reasons. :) *claps hands at Joss*

Lol.. i remember my Bangel faze.... and I reluctantly admit that I thought Riley was cute when I first saw him... (*ducks the large objects being tossed my way*) got over him quickly tho... especially after having watched Something Blue... :D lol

Cheers!

Katie

PS Sabrina and Harvey....*sigh*

Don't worry, be happy :)

I am really new. I only started to post in February.  My first fic was au/human so I didn't even try to post it here.  I offered it to Sweet Temptation who thought it wasn't good enough - their loss as it went on to pick up 4 awards from SunnyD.

Ah well, such is life.

I love the forums on here, and have laughed myself silly at some of the threads.  I will continue to post my B/S fics here as the quality of writing is excellent.  There is a lot of tat out there in the Universe, and I applaud the high standards set by this site.

Gillypod, congratulations on your awards! :)

That seems rather odd for Sweet Temptation to just turn down your submission. Did they give an explanation why or any suggestions as to how you might improve the story? I'm not saying it needed corrected, but usually when a site denies a new submission they offer advice on what the author can do to alter the story to suit the site.

Anyway, I'm glad you're here now, and posting your fics. I read some of TLatL and it was very well-written. I was just too much of a wuss to make it through William's naughtiness. :P I look forward to reading more of your work in the future.

Hi,

I might be the newest of all.  I just started posting my WIP fic "Clocks of the Long Now" here yesterday.  I started writing in February.  It's my first fic (of any kind, not just BtVS), and this is the 3rd archive I've submitted it to.  All of the other writers and readers have been very helpful and cool.

This has really been a rewarding writing experience for me so.  Getting feedback during the writing process is just an incredible morale boost, and often technically helpful as well.  I've also met some great, creative people and have gotten to read some amazing stories.  Also, I think the story is doing well!  So far it's been nominated for two Fang Fetish Awards and four Love's Last Glimpse awards.   I never expected anything close to that kind of reaction, so of course I'm totally jazzed.

I'm also a guy.  From what several people have told me so far, a straight man writing Spuffy fan fiction is just slightly less rare than a pygmy marmoset reading it.  In space.

Anyway, hey-hi-hello there.  Looking forward to reading lots of great stuff here!

Welcome lost boy!  Great WIP so far.  I expect you'll get lots of noms as you write.  As for a straight guy writing, yup it is rare but a handful of you are among THE BEST writing so Woo hoo!!!!!

Again, welcome.

Hey, lost boy, welcome to the BSV! It's true we don't get many guys, but I'm pretty sure one of my reviewers is in fact a pygmy marmoset. Weird.

Anyway, I think you can probably tell I'm enjoying your fic. Not at all surprised it's been nominated for awards.

I'm curious whether you are one of Peter Pan's lost boys, or a member of Kiefer Sutherland's vampire gang. Either? Neither?

Writing should feel easy, like a monkey driving a speed boat.

Waughhh... loved that flick!  Always thought BtVS "borrowed" a lot of the vamp look & feel from that movie.

So yeah, I guess you can throw me in with the leather... uh, latter, I mean.

;-P
