Songs that remind you ...

May 18 2007 03:25 am   #1Unbridled_Brunette

Something like this might have been posted before, but if it was, I didn't see it, so I decided to go ahead and ask. What song(s) remind you of the Spuffy relationship and why? What song(s)s remind you of the characters and why?

Yes, I am kind of bored at the moment. :P

Right offhand, these are the ones that remind me.

Songs that reminds me of Spuffy: November Rain by Guns n' Roses; Colorblind by Counting Crows; The Sweetest Thing by U2; and Every You, Every Me by Placebo

Song that reminds me of Spike: Landslide by Tori Amos (cover of Fleetwood Mac); Creep by Radiohead; and Battle Flag by Low Fidelity All Stars (obviously, this last one pertains more to evil Spike)

Song that reminds me of Buffy: Grey Street by Dave Matthews Band, and These Days by Nico (I can't think of any others for Buffy right now, but I'm sure something else will come to me.)

So, what are everyone else's choices?

Reminds me of canon Spuff: "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails

Reminds me of Spike: "My Plague" by Slipnot

Reminds me of Buffy's thoughts about Spike (s7): "Other Side of the World" by Luther Vandross.

Damn, don't get me started- it was hard enough stopping there...

"Closer"'s a dirty song! Bad Scarlet. :P

lol, yeah... but you gotta admit, it fits- verbatim.  It sounds like a conversation between the two to me.

Muse with "Sunburn" or "Time is running out" or "Hysteria"....beautiful British band with beautiful songs...I loooooooooooove them so much! Just listen to the amazing lyrics!

They´r all very emotional, at least from my point of view...a lot of gutitar and base...but nevertheless yust beautiful...

Here some extracts from my Muse- Spuffy- Songs:

"Time Is Running Out"

I think I'm drowning
Asphyxiated
I wanna break this spell
That you've created

You're something beautiful
A contradiction
I wanna play the game
I want the friction

You will be the death of me
You will be the death of me

Bury it
I won't let you bury it
I won't let you smother it
I won't let you murder it

Our time is running out
Our time is running out
You can't push it underground
You can't stop it screaming out

I wanted freedom
Bound and restricted
I tried to give you up
But I'm addicted........................

"Hysteria"

It's bugging me, grating me
And twisting me around
Yeah I'm endlessly caving in
And turning inside out

'cause I want it now
I want it now
Give me your heart and your soul
And I'm breaking out
I'm breaking out
Last chance to lose control..............

"Sunburn"

"Sunburn"

Come waste your millions here
Secretly she sneers
Another corporate show
A guilty conscience grows
I'll feel a guilty conscience grow
I'll feel a guilty conscience grow

She burns like the sun
And I can't look away
And she'll burn our horizons make no mistake

Come let the truth be shared
No-one ever dared
To break these endless lies
Secretly she cries

She burns like the sun
And I can't look away
And she'll burn our horizons make no mistake

And I'll hide from the world
Behind a broken frame
And I'll burn forever
I can't face the shame

And I'll hide from the world
Behind a broken frame
And I'll burn forever
I can't face the shame

MOa, great picks. Muse is one of my favorite bands. I could listen to the song Starlight forever. And you're right, the lyrics to your choices are very fitting.

buffy: Azure ray - displaced , Robyn - Eclipse

Spike: Bright eyes - Arinette , Tom Mcrae - Vampire heart

Spuffy: Gosling  - cat people, Natalie merchant - My skin

Robyn - Eclipse

There's an eclipse in your eye
where I used to shine
Every secret untold
is a planet aligned
Don't need prophets or preachers
to make sense of the signs
When the buried and hidden can be seen by the blind
You're right
Some words are just unspoken
So right
Then it all just falls apart
The day I break your heart
I caught my reflection
in the corner of your eye
You said "Don't even ask the question,
and I won't tell the lie"
Where there's no accusation
there's no need for denial
And if you hadn't heard that whisper
there'd be no tear to wipe from your eye
You're right
Some words are best unspoken
So right
Then it all just falls apart
The day I break your heart
Never took no advice
Not the foolish, not the wise
All the truth that I needed
was right there in your smile
Every prophecy written of what's going to be
All beginnings and endings, they're about you and me
You're right
Some words are best unspoken
So right
Until it all just falls apart
You´re right
Some words are best unspoken
So right
Then it all just falls apart
The day I break your heart

Arinette

the fragile keep secrets
gathered in pockets
and they’ll sell them for nothing
a cheap watch or locket
that kind of gold washes off
and the sad act like lepers
they stick to the shadows
they long to ring bells of warning
to tell of their coming
so that the pure can shut their doors
and the angry are animals senseless and savage
they act without order in logical lapses
they stain their mouths with blood
so take my hand
this barren land is alive tonight
and the corn has grown
stalks that form a wall too high
but the wind carries sounds
that I can't see from beyond that line
then the stalks begin to sway
oh, stay with me Arienette
until the wolves are away
well, the wicked are vultures
and they bake in the canyons
they circle in sunlight
and wait for their victims
to collapse and call to them
the desperate are water
they’ll run down forever as they soak into silence,
mend up together in a dark and distant
dark and distant place
so don't leave me here
with only mirrors watching me
this house it holds nothing but the memories
and the moon it leaves silver but never sleep
and then the silver turns to gray
oh, stay with me Arienette
until the wolves are away
are away.

Vampire Heart by Tom Mcrae

Darling, I'm lost,
Adrift in the dark
I'm clutching your words to my vampire heart once more
So let in the light, turn me to dust
If it don't end in bloodshed, dear,
It's probably not love
Here we are, in the darkest place
My reflection shows only your face
Something is found
Something is lost
Went looking for clues in the streets of old New York
And I spilled someone's blood
I broke someone's heart again
someone you know
you're looking at him, my friend
And the people in our lives
We all leave behind
Leave behind
Here we are, in the darkest place
To keep from forgetting I picture your face
And i wonder
While we count the cost
Which is sweeter;
Love or it's loss
So i curse you,
My vampire heart
For letting me love you
Love you
For letting me love you
From the start

Gosling - cat people
see these eyes so green I can stare for a thousand years
cold,ailling the moon
its been so long
feel my blood enraged its just the fear of losing you
don't you know my name
you've been so long
well you've been so long
and I've been putting out fire with gasoline....

see these eyes so red, red like charcoal burning bright
those who feel me know, pulled the plights and changed their minds you've been so long
well you've been so long
and Ive been putting out fire with gasoline
putting out fire, with gasoline...

still this pulsing I
a plauge I call a heartbeat.
just be still with me you wouldnt believe what I've been through
you've been so long
well you've been so long
and I've been putting out fire with gasoline
putting out fire, with gasoline...

see these tears so blue an ageless heart that can never mend
these tears can never dry
a judgement made can never bend
see these eyes so green
I could stare for a thousand years
just be still with me
you wouldn't believe what Ive been through
its been so long, where you been so long?
and Ive been putting out fire with gasoline

Is it weird that I've also come to associate Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody with the Spike from seasons 5--7? :P

These Things by She Wants Revenge.  I swear to God that song was written for Spike during season 6

White Flag by Dido.....COMPLETELY Spuffy (and so ironic that she cast David Boneraz in the official video).  I've seen a few really good Spuffy vids to it.

Someone already mentioned Bring Me To Life.

I'd love someone to do a good Spike/Dru vid to "Black Magic Woman" and wish I had the talent to do that.  It was made for William being turned and trained by his mad sire.

Another pure Spuffy song is Love Me When I'm Gone.

I think "Saving Me" by Nickelback is SO Spuffy.

"Show me what it's like
To be the last one standing
And teach me wrong from right
And I'll show you what I can be
And say it for me
Say it to me
And I'll leave this life behind me
Say it if it's worth savin' me"

Doesn't that seem like it's Spike begging Buffy to help him be the man we all know he could be?

Buffy during s6: Imogen Heap- The Walk

Inside out, upside-down twisting beside myself,
Stop that now, cos you and I were never meant to be
I think you better leave; it's not safe in here,
I feel a weakness coming on.

Alright then (Alright then) I could keep your number for a rainy day,
That's where this ends, no mistakes no misbehaving,
Oh, I was doing so well, can we just be friends,
I feel a weakness coming on.

It's not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don't want to feel like this, Yeah,
No it's not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don't want to feel like this, so that makes it all your fault.

Inside out, upside-down twisting beside myself,
Stop that now; you're as close as it gets without touching me,
Oh no, don't make it harder than it already is,
Mmm, I feel a weakness coming on.

It's not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don't want to feel like this, Yeah,
No it's not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don't want to feel like this, so that makes it all your fault.

Big trouble losing control,
Primary resistance at a critical low,
On the double gotta get a hold,
Point of no return one second to go,

No response on any level, red alert this vessels under siege,
Total overload, systems down, they've got control,
There's no way out, we are surrounded,
Give in, give in and relish every minute of it

Freeze, awake here forever, I feel a weakness coming on.

It's not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don't want to feel like this, Yeah,
No it's not meant to be like this, it's just what I don't need,
Why make me feel like this, it's definitely all your fault.

Here's two that were never mentioned:

"Say Yes" by Floetry

...All you gotta do is say yes
Don't deny what you feel let me undress you baby
Open up your mind and just rest
I'm about to let you know you make me so...

Loving you has taken time, taken time
But I always knew you could be mine
I recognize the butterflies inside me
Sex is gonna be made tonight, tonight
All you gotta do is say yes...

"Untitled (How Does it Feel?)" by D'angelo (you should *really* see the video- the link is at the bottom...)
...And if you'll have me
I can provide
Everything that you desire
Said if you get a feeling
Feeling that I am feeling
Won't you come closer
To me baby
Then you've already got me where you want me baby
I just want to be your man

How does it feel?
...I wanna stop silly little games you and me play
And I'm feeling right on
If you feel the same way baby
Let me know right away
(Let me know)
I'd love to make you wet
In between your thighs cause
I love when it comes inside you
I get so excited when I'm around you...

D'angelo, pass me the drool bucket, lol. And I love that video.

I was listening to Alice n Chians and this song reminds me of them too, No Excuses.

It's alright
There comes a time
Got no patience to search
For peace of mind
Layin' low
Want to take it slow
No more hiding or
Disguising truths I've sold
Everyday it's something
Hits me all so cold
Find me sittin' by myself
No excuses, then I know
It's okay
Had a bad day
Hands are bruised from
Breaking rocks all day
Drained and blue
I bleed for you
You think it's funny, well
You're drowning in it too
Everyday it's something
Hits me all so cold
Find me sittin' by myself
No excuses, then I know
Yeah, it's fine
We'll walk down the line
Leave our rain, a cold
Trade for warm sunshine
You my friend
I will defend
And if we change, well I
Love you anyway
Everyday it's something
Hits me all so cold
Find me sittin' by myself
No excuses, then I know

And in the air the fireflies
Our only light in paradise
We'll show the world they were wrong
And teach them all to sing along

Here's a song by a guy I bet none of you ever thought would be on this list, Ozzy Osbourne's Lay Your World On Me. (album Black Rain released 2007) Here are the words. I thought they fit Buffy and Spike in Touched.

Lay Your World On Me

I know you think you're all alone
I haven't been there when you've needed me
I didn't deserve the love you gave
But now I'm telling you I'm here if you need a friend

Give me your pain
Give me your anger
Let me be your rock
I can be the pillar of strength that you need
I'll help you keep it all together
It's better late than never
Lay your world on me
I can take the weight

Don't let it twist you up inside
Time never fails to make the heartache stop
You've got to let those feelings go
I'll give you everything I can if you say the word

Give me your pain
Give me your anger
Let me be your rock
I can be the pillar of strength that you need
I'll help you keep it all together
It's better late than never
Lay your world on me
I can take the weight

We all laugh and we all cry
We all hurt the same inside
We all fall down and we lose faith in who we really are
But if we bend instead of break
The choice for us is to make it together
Lay your world on me

I'll help you keep it all together
It's better late than never
Lay your world on me
Lay your world on me
Lay your world on me
I can take the weight

Tomorrow may be hell, but today was a good writing day, and on the good writing days nothing else matters. — Neil Gaiman

I guess I can see this song being in either Buffy or Spike's perspective, but mostly I see it in Buffy's during the distruction of their relationship in season six.

Cold by Crossfade

Looking back at me I see that I
Never really got it right
I never stopped to think of you
I'm always wrapped up in things I cannot win

You are the antidote that gets me by
Somethin' strong like a drug that gets me
High

What I really meant to say
Is I'm sorry for the way I am
I never meant to be so cold
Never meant to be so cold
What I really meant to say
Is I'm sorry for the way I am
I never meant to be so cold
Never meant to be so

Cold, to you, I'm sorry 'bout all the lies
Maybe in a different light
You can see me stand on my own again
'Cause now I can see

You were the antidote that got me by
Somethin' strong like a drug that got me
High

What I really meant to say
Is I'm sorry for the way I am
I never meant to be so cold
Never meant to be so cold
What I really meant to say
Is I'm sorry for the way I am
I never meant to be so cold
Never meant to be so cold

I never meant to be
So cold

I never really wanted you to see
The screwed up side of me that I keep
Locked inside of me so deep
It always seems to get to me

I never really wanted you to go
So many things you should have known
I guess for me there's just no hope
I never meant to be so cold

What I really meant to say (Say)
Is I'm sorry for the way (Sorry for the way) I am
(I am) I never meant to be so cold
Never meant to be so cold

What I really meant to say (Say)
Is I'm sorry for the way (Sorry for the way) I am
(I am) I never meant to be so cold
Never meant to be so cold

This song always reminds me of season five and six Spuffy. I heard it one day and instantly thought it was perfect.

Everything You Want by Vertical Horizon

Somewhere they’re speaking,
Somewhere they’re coming in,
Oh and it’s rising in the back of your mind.

You never could get it,
Unless you were fed it,
Now you’re here,
And you don’t know why.

But under skinned knees and the skid marks,
Past the places where you use to learn,
You howl and listen,
Listen and wait for the,
Echoes of angels who won’t return.

He’s everything you want,
He’s everything you need,
He’s everything inside of you,
That you wish you could be.
He says all the right things at exactly the right time,
But he means nothing to you,
And you don’t know why.

You’re waiting for someone to put you together,
You’re waiting for someone to push you away,
There’s always another,
Wound to discover,
There’s always something more you wish he’d say.

He’s everything you want,
He’s everything you need,
He’s everything inside of you,
That you wish you could be.
He says all the right things at exactly the right time,
But he means nothing to you,
And you don’t know why.

But you’ll just sit tight,
And watch it unwind,
It’s only what you’re asking for,
And you’ll be just fine,
With all of your time,
It’s only what you’re waiting for.

Out of the island,
Into the highway,
Past the places where you might have turned,
You never did notice,
That you still hide away,
The anger of angels that won’t return.

He’s everything you want,
He’s everything you need,
He is everything inside of you,
That you wish you could be.
He says all the right things,
At exactly the right time,
But he means nothing to you,
And you don’t know why.

I am everything you want,
I am everything you need,
I am everything inside of you,
That you wish you could be,
I say all the right things,
At exactly the right times,
But I mean nothing to you,
And I don’t know why.

Man, there are so many songs that remind me of Spuffy, I agree with a lot of the ones that have been mentioned.  One that comes to mind is "Let it Go" by Fauxliage, it's such a great song and I already made a Spuffy video for it.  I couldn't resist:  www.youtube.com/watch

When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.

Okay, so I gotta admit, this topic got me.  As some of you know, I researched a lot of music that fits the Spuffy bit, since I put so many of them in the soundtrack for Origins (and hell, some of the others too).  But there are others that I haven't actually used yet, but will.  Among them:
No Ordinary Love by Sade
Love, Hate, Love by Alice in Chains (so very, very Spike)
Moments in Love by Art of Noise
I will find you -- Clannad (from the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack)
I want you to want me -- Cheap Trick
and I'm sure there's more stuff, I'm just fried (and home sick) so forgive me for not remembering.  But again, if you've read anything by me, you know already how many songs I think apply to them.

This could sum up the entire Post Resurrection Arc - and Buffy-Angel-Spike triangle  -

Totally my first post here but I had to jump in cause I do have the perfect song. (canon season 6 like perfect ) So here is David Bowie's Heroes:

I, i will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can beat them, just for one day
We can be heroes, just for one day

And you, you can be mean
And i, i'll drink all the time
'cause we're lovers, and that is a fact
Yes we're lovers, and that is that

Though nothing, will keep us together
We could steal time, just for one day
We can be heroes, for ever and ever
What d'you say?

I, i wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim
Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, for ever and ever
Oh we can be heroes, just for one day

I, i will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be heroes, just for one day
We can be us, just for one day

I, i can remember (i remember)
Standing, by the wall (by the wall)
And the guns, shot above our heads (over our heads)
And we kissed, as though nothing could fall (nothing could fall)
And the shame, was on the other side
Oh we can beat them, for ever and ever
Then we could be heroes, just for one day

We can be heroes
We can be heroes
We can be heroes
Just for one day
We can be heroes

We're nothing, and nothing will help us
Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay
But we could be safer, just for one day

Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh-oh-ohh

Barely Breathing by Duncan Sheik always made me think of Season Seven Spike once he was getting over being crazy. Can't copy the lyrics down right now but they really go with what Spike has to deal with from Buffy and his sacrifice and the music itself is pretty good.

I also think "Love Song for a Vampire" would fit for Spuffy, post-Chosen; the longing, and the hopelessness; I would hope that is is how Buffy feels whenever she thinks about Spike.

The song that always said Spuffy to me is The Dance by Garth Brooks

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance

I have to agree with a lot of the choices mentioned above.  I also have a few of my own, with snippets of lyrics:

Lovin' You Against My Will - Gary Allan
This one can apply to either s5 Spike or s6/7 Buffy.  They really don't want to, but on the other hand, they really do want to.

Your love is like a deep dark river
Pullin' me out to sea
The harder I try to resist you
The weaker I seem to be

I don't wanna feel your heartbeat
I don't wanna taste your kiss
I don't wanna call your name, I don't wanna call your name
I don't wanna want you like this...

I Wanna Feel Something - Trace Adkins
It very much suits Buffy post-resurrection, but I don't just see it as a s6 song.  It can apply to her at just about any point after s2, because that's when she really started to shut down.  But it's also a very hopeful song, because she wants to feel again, she doesn't just want to be numb.

I can't tell you 'cause I don't know how I got so cold
When did I get so cold

I just wanna feel somethin'
Somethin' that's a real somethin'
That moves me, that proves to me I'm still alive
Run my fingers through your fingers, across your face and through your hair
And close my eyes, and breathe you in like air...

Don't Make Me - Blake Shelton
Definitely Spike pleading with Buffy to let him in.  This song and the previous one have become inextricably entwined in my  head, to the point where I see them as two sides of one coin.

Girl, when I look at you
You look through me like I'm not even there
I'm trying not to give up
To be strong, but I'm afraid to say I'm scared

I can't find the place your heart is hiding
I'm no quitter, but I'm tired of fighting...

The One - Gary Allan
Maybe it's just me, but I listen to this, and all I can think of is devotion.  And oh, Lord, it fits Spike like no other.

No rush; though I need your touch
I won't rush your heart
Until you feel on solid ground
Until your strength is found
Girl~

I'll fill those canyons in your soul
Like a river lead you home
And I'll walk a step behind
In the shadows so you shine
Just ask it will be done
And I will prove my love
Until you're sure that I'm "the one"

Somebody else was here before
He treated you unkind
And broken wings need time to heal
Before a heart can fly
Girl~

I'll fill those canyons in your soul
Like a river lead you home
And I'll walk a step behind
In the shadows so you shine
Just ask it will be done
And I will prove my love
Until you're sure that I'm "the one"

Trust in me and you'll find a heart so true
All I want to do is give the best of me to you
And stand beside you

Just ask, it will be done
And I will prove my love
Until you're sure that I'm "the one"

(Yeah, I can't help but think of "Touched".)

Taking it back old school with this one.  Well, my old school, anyway...Backstreet Boys' "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely."  Totally a Spike song.

Show me the meaning of being lonely

So many words for the broken heart
It's hard to see in a crimson love
So hard to breathe
Walk with me, and maybe
Nights of light so soon become
Wild and free I could feel the sun
Your every wish will be done
They tell me

[Chorus:]
Show me the meaning of being lonely
Is this the feeling I need to walk with?
Tell me why I can't be there where you are
There's something missing in my heart

Life goes on as it never ends
Eyes of stone observe the trends
They never say forever gaze upon me
Guilty roads to an endless love (endless love)
There's no control
Are you with me now?
Your every wish will be done
They tell me

[Chorus]

There's nowhere to run
I have no place to go
Surrender my heart, body, and soul
How can it be
You're asking me
To feel the things you never show?

You are missing in my heart
Tell me why I can't be there where you are

This thread popped up at the right time. I just got a new CD and it has the perfect Spike/Buffy song for their relationship in season six. It's Seether's FMLYHM off of Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces.

Here are the lyrics:

You could have been the real one
You could have been the one enough for me
You could have been the free one
The broken down and sick one
A remnant of a vacant life

You'll come around when you find me faithless
You'll come around when  you find me faceless

Fuck me like you hate me, dig it up, tear it down
Dig it up and whore me out
Fuck me like you hate me, dig it up, tear it down
I love the sound when you come undone

You could have been the next one
You could have been the one to comprehend me
You could have been the only one,
the broken down and sick one
You could have been  the one who I lie with

You'll come around when you finally face this
You'll come around when you find me faceless

Fuck me like you hate me, dig it up, tear it down
Dig it up and whore me out
Fuck me like you hate me, dig it up, tear it down
Don't make a sound 'til I come undone

You'll never break me

You could have been the real one
You could have been the last one I lie with
You could have been the owned one
I should have been the one who died
Tomorrow may be hell, but today was a good writing day, and on the good writing days nothing else matters. — Neil Gaiman

Oh, this is a such a great topic!

The song that says "Buffy" to me is "Top of the World" by the Dixie Chicks.

Another song that I feel works so well from Buffy's perspective is "Best I Ever Had" sung by Gary Allan.  Of course, that might be due to the fact that I first heard the song in a Spuffy video.

For Spike, "I Can't Stand Losing You" by the Police, "My Dark Life" by Elvis Costello, "Bob" by NOFX, "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen.  What else?  Oh, yes.  "Within You" by David Bowie.  That song could be Spike's whole treatise on his relationship with Buffy.
How you turned my world, you precious thing
You starve and near exhaust me
Everything I've done, I've done for you
I move the stars for no one

You've run so long, you've run so far
Your eyes can be so cruel
Just as I can be so cruel
Though I do believe in you
Live without your sunlight
Love without your heartbeat
I can't live within you

And it might be a bit obvious, but "London Calling" by the Clash makes me think of Spike, because I first heard of them  when I read a Spuffy fic.  And the lyrics, the attitude, the pure poetry of the song...it's Spike, if Spike were a quality or state of being.

Now for the oh-so thorny tangle that is Spuffy.  "You Don't Know What Love Is" by the White Stripes.  "Aprodisiac" by Bow Wow.  "Sin Wagon" by the Dixie Chicks.  "We Bury the Hatchet (But Leave the Handle Sticking Out" by Garth Brooks.  "Dirty Little Secret" by the All-American Rejects.  "Jealous Guy" by John Lennon.  "Goodbye to You" by Michelle Branch.

Oh, and Unbridled Brunette, I get the "Bohemian Rhapsody."  I once read this really great fic where Giles ruminated that Spike and Buffy were opera:  soaring melodies and moody interludes, raucous percussion and the occasional humourous episodes.  If anyone remembers reading that, can you tell me what it is?  I want to read it again.
"Do you like my mask?  Isn't it pretty?  It raises the dead!"--Giles, "Dead Man's Party'

Hi, this is my first post here, but i just wanted to say that i totally agree with most of the Evanesence songs already posted, especially "Haunted." i read a really good song fic to that one a while back, i think it was by Coquine.

One artist i've found has written song that remind me of Buffy and Spike is Ani DiFranco. She is hands down the coolest person in existence (okay, tied with Joss). Some of her songs kinda fit in with Buffy at the end of s7, like "Swan Dive" and "Done Wrong." For the whole Spuffy aspect, the songs "Second Intermission", "Gravel", and "Modulation" fit in really well.

I was listening to one of her earlier albums the other day when i found a song called "Light of Some Kind" that kinda fits in with the Satsu storyline:
wish i didn't have this nervous laugh
wish i didn't say half the stuff i say
wish i could just learn to cover my tracks
guess i'm not concerned enough
about getting away with it

every time i try to hold my tongue
it slips like a fish from the line
they say if you're gonna play
you should learn how to play dumb
guess i can't bring myself
to waste your time

'cuz we both know what i've been doing
i've been intentionally bad at lying
and you're the only one i ever
let see thru me
and i hope you believe me
when i say i'm trying
i hope i never improve my game
i would rather have these things
weigh on my mind
'cuz at the end of this tunnel
of guilt and shame
there must be a light of some kind

musta blown a fuse or something
it was so dark in my mind
she came up to me with the sweetest face
and she was holding a light
of some kind
and i still think of you as my boyfriend
i don't think this is the end of the world
maybe you should follow
my example
and go meet yourself
a really nice girl

we both know what i've been doing
i've been intentionally bad at lying
and you're the only boy i ever
let see thru me
and i hope you believe me
when i say i'm trying
i hope i never improve my game
i would rather have these things
weigh on my mind
'cuz at the end of this tunnel
of guilt and shame
there must be a light of some kind

in the end the whole world
comes down to just a few people
for you it comes down to one
but nobody ever asked me
if i thought i could be
everything to someone
there's a crowd of people
harbored in every person
there are so many roles that we play
you've decided to love me for eternity
and i'm still deciding
who i want to be today

we both know what i've been doing
i've been intentionally bad at lying
and you're the only boy i ever
let see thru me
and i hope you believe me
when i say i'm trying
i hope i never improve my game
i would rather have this thing
weigh on my mind
'cuz at the end of this tunnel
of guilt and shame
there must be a light of some kind
give me a light of some kind
i want a light of some kind

I always wanted to make a Spuffy/Spike video involving a lot of season seven with the song Barely Breathing by Duncan Sheik, but I can never find the time. I think the song is sad and beautiful and really shows Spike's feelings about the relationship after the violence and resentment in it was leached away, and during the quiet, pain-filled time in season six, and definitely as he wore the amulet.

I know what you’re doing,
I see it all to clear
I only taste the saline when I kiss away your tears
You really had me going, wishing on a star
But the black holes that surround you are heavier by far
I believed in your confusion, you were so completely torn
Well it must have been that yesterday was the day that I was born
There’s not much to examine, there’s nothing left to hide
You really can’t be serious if you have to ask me why

I say good-bye...

‘Cause I am barely breathing
And I can’t find the air
I don’t know who I’m kidding
Imagining you care
And I could stand here waiting
A fool for another day
But I don’t suppose it’s worth the price, worth the price
The price that I would pay

Everyone keeps asking, what’s it all about?
I used to be so certain and I can’t figure out
What is this attraction? I only feel the pain
There’s nothing left to reason and only you to blame Will it ever change?

‘Cause I am barely breathing
And I can’t find the air
I don’t know who I’m kidding
Imagining you care
And I could stand here waiting
A fool for another day
But I don’t suppose it’s worth the price, worth the price
The price that I would pay
But I’m thinking it over anyway...

I’ve come to find
I may never know
Your changing mind
Is it friend or foe?

I rise above
Or sink below
With every time
You come and go
Please don’t come and go

‘Cause I am barely breathing
And I can’t find the air
I don’t know who I’m kidding
Imagining you care
And I could stand here waiting
A fool for another day
But I don’t suppose it’s worth the price, worth the price
The price that I would pay
But I’m thinking it over anyway

Great July 2008 song additions - I have also been wanting for the longest time to get my vid completed - can't help but think of "Tabula Rasa" and that great line about Kittens-Cats and Time by Shark.

Going way back, I like Spike connected to Buffy with the Billie Holiday rendition of "You're My thrill" by Jay Gorney&Sidney Clare

OK, I see some of my favourites are already here but I've got a few more:

Amazing by Aerosmith
I love that song. For me it says how Spike sees the world in new light "with the blink of an eye"(when he falls in love with Buffy). And I love the "life's a journey not a destination" part. It will be good for them both to understand that.

Bitch by Meredith Brooks
It sounds bad I bet but it reminds me of Buffy and what she is for Spike-"I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between, you know you wouldn't want it any other way"

Are you Gonna Be My Girl by Jet
Well, we all know that's what Spike has always wanted to ask Buffy.

To the Moon And Back by Savage Garden
I can just picture Spike telling Buffy "I'll fly to the moon and back if you be if you be my babe"

Guilty by Blue
It has to be written for Spike.

Hot by Avril
It's very season6-Spuffy. And the part "I wanna lock you up in my closet" is so season7-Spuffy

We Are The Champions by Queen
For me that's the perfect Spike & Angel-our champions-(NOT like a couple-eeewww) song but it works out for Buffy & Spike too.

Fool For Your Lovin' by Whitesnake
The song Spike should sing to Drusilla and Buffy and then kick them out (but he is too much of a gentleman and FOOL FOR LOVE). But I still love to think of him saying the words-"fool for your lovin' no more".

Seems like there are quite a few songs that fit Spuffy out there. I have a few suggestions as well (sorry if some of these have been mentioned before, I only skimmed the thread).

For Season 6:

Boiler - Limp Bizkit
Fits pretty well with the way Spike acted after he attacked Buffy in her bathroom, especially the almost schizophrenic way he talks to himself.

Looks like I'm 'a do everything myself
Maybe I could use some help
But hell, you want something done right
You gotta do it yourself
Maybe life is up and down
But, my life's been what to now?
I crawled up your butt from hell
And that's when things got turned around

It used to be a lie
And now it feels pathetic
And now I get it
What's done is done
You just leave it alone
And don't regret it
Sometimes some things turn into dumb things
And that's when you put your foot down

Why did I have to go and meet somebody like you? (like you)
Why do you have to go and hurt somebody like me? (like me)
How could you do somebody like that
You know that I'm never coming back

Looks like I'm 'a do everything myself
Maybe I could use some help
But hell, if you want something done right
You just do it yourself
Got it?

Maybe life is up and down
But, but my life's been what to now?
Got it?
I crawled up your butt somehow
Got it?
And that's when shit got turned around

It used to be a lie
So pathetic
But now I get it
What's done is done
I know, you just leave it alone
And don't regret it
But sometimes some things turn into dumb things
And that's when you put your foot

Why did I have to go and meet somebody like you? (like you)
Why do you have to go and hurt somebody like me? (like me)
How could you do somebody like that
You know that I'm never coming back

Depending on you is done (is done)
Giving to you is done
No more eating, no sleeping, no living
It's all just what giving to you and I'm done (and I'm done)

But hiding from you is done (is done)
But lying from you is done
No more eating, no sleeping, no living
It's all just what giving to you and I'm done (and I'm done)

Why did I have to go and meet somebody like you? (like you)
Why do you have to go and hurt somebody like me? (like me)
How could you do somebody like that
You know that I'm never coming back

But why?
Why?

For Seasons 6+7 and AtS 5:

My Immortal - Evanescence
Not usually a fan of Evanescence but I thought this perfect for Buffy and Spike's relationship throughout the final Seasons of BtVS and AtS - not counting BtVS S8, which doesn't exist to me -  In fact it almost seems like a duet at times.

I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all of my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
Because your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I've held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

You used to captivate me
By your resonating light
But now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I've held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
And though you're still with me
I've been alone all alone

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I've held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

For AtS Season 5:

Hold on - Limp Bizkit
I thought it fit in with Spike's mood, particularly after he saw Buffy dance with the Immortal

You keep your distance
I can't deny you
I got the feeling
Can't satisfy you
I got your picture on the wall
I got the picture long gone
You keep your wishes
I'll keep my feelings
There goes along the one
That kept me breathing
I'm waiting for you
I know you're leaving
I still adore you
You never need me

Hold on. I've found another way to let you go
Away
Hold on. You've found another way to bleed my soul
Away

The things you told me
To hear you speak
I'm burning slowly
I'm growing weak
You bring me closer to yesterday
Yesterday's a million miles away
Why can't you hear me?
Why can't I see you?
And I don't understand
What keeps me breathing
I'm waiting for you
I know you're leaving
I'll still adore you
You'll never need me

Hold on. I've found another way to let you go
Away
Hold on. You've found another way to bleed my soul
Away

For Season 6 and Spuffy-general:

Behind Blue Eyes - Limp Bizkit
Yes, I know it's a cover, but I just know the Bizkit version. Anyway, I think the lyrics are self-explanatory

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes
And no one knows
What it's like to be hated
To be fated to telling only lies

But my dreams they aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

No one knows what its like
To feel these feelings
Like i do, and i blame you!
No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain and woe
Can show through

No one knows what its like
To be mistreated, to be defeated
Behind blue eyes
No one knows how to say
That they're sorry and don't worry
I'm not telling lies

No one knows what its like
To be the bad man, to be the sad man
Behind blue eyes.

Spuffy general/post Chosen:

Come Undone - Vanessa Carlton
Has a very Buffy-post-Chosen feel to it. Couldn't find the lyrics to this or the next song, but I can wholly recommend them anyway. Truly fantastic music... for soft, girlie men like me anyway.

Home - Vanessa Carlton
Though the lyrics don't seem to fit Spuffy very much, I always got a very Spuffy feel from this song. Perhaps it's the chorus of "Even now I'm alone, I've always known, with you I am home." which Ilike to associate with Spike coming back to Buffy repeatedly.
Ah, that's the stuff! Slayer musk, it's bitter and aggravating!

Thanks, sweetie!

I think this one suits S6 Buffy so well...

Love me back to life

This world don't give you nothing it can't take away
Everybody holding on to something
Nobody wants to fade away

No forgiveness on the streets of this town
I left my patience at a traffic light
There's no denying that I almost lost it
Threw in the towel, too tired to fight

Tonight I need you
More than yesterday
Tonight I need you

Chorus:
Take me, touch me, hold me like you mean it
Make me come alive
Hurt me, heal me, come on make me feel it
Rescue me tonight
Love me back to life

These days I'd trade sight for feeling
There are days my feeling's gone
Can't figure out whose life I'm living
I don't know right from wrong

When I lost my faith
You found it then gave it back to me
There's a new light on your halo; it took blind eyes to see

That I need you
More than yesterday
Yeah, I need you

Chorus:
Take me, touch me, hold me like you mean it
Make me come alive
Hurt me, heal me, come on make me feel it
Rescue me tonight
Love me back to life

Guitar Solo

Chorus:
Take me, touch me, hold me like you mean it
Make me come alive
Hurt me, heal me, come on make me feel it
Rescue me

Take me, touch me, hold me like you mean it
Make me come alive
Hurt me, heal me, come on make me feel it
Rescue me tonight
Love me back to life
Love me back to life
Love me back to life
Aim from the heart
Some will love and some will curse you, baby
You can go to war
But only if you have to

Wow, awesome thread.

Tons of songs remind me of Spuffyness or the show in general, or Angel, particularly if I hear them after watching an ep or delving into some fanfic.
I just heard a new song on the radio which did but missed the name.

Tell It Like It Is - Aaron Neville

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jM5U_Q018s

snippet:

If you are serious
Don't play with my heart, it makes me furious
But if want me to love you
Then, baby, I will, girl, you know I will

Tell it like it is
Don't be ashamed to let your conscience be your guide
But I know deep down inside of me
I believe you love me, forget your foolish pride

Life is too short to have sorrow
You may be here today and gone tomorrow
You might as well get what you want
So go on and live, baby, go on and live

Tell it like it is
**

Heart Shaped Bruise - Elvis Costello

Tell me now, or am I only dreaming?
Tell me now, or are you only teasing?
I felt the cold hard facts of life
Five degrees from freezing
Does it amuse you to always hurt me so?
I try my best, it's not enough
Should I give up and let you go?

There's nothing more to take from me
There's nothing more to give you dear
There's nothing else that I can lose
Except this heart-shaped bruise

I'm sorry that I hurt you
It's something I must live with everyday
And all the pain I put you through
I wish that I could take it all away
And be the one who catches all your tears
Thats why i need you to hear

I've found out a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is You

Thought of another... Poison, the Groove Coverage version. I do like the vid but I would have done different scenes with it.

Your cruel device
your blood, like ice
One look, could kill
My pain, your thrill...

I wanna love you but I better not touch
I wanna hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I want it too much
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
Your poison running through my veins
Your poison
I don't wanna play these games

(I wanna love you but I, but I better not)

Poison

Your mouth, so hot
Your web, I'm caught
Your skin, so wet
Black lace, on sweat

I hear you calling and it's needles and pins
I wanna hurt you just to hear you screaming my name
Don't wanna touch you but you're under my skin
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
Your poison running through my veins
Your poison
I don't wanna break these chains

My fiance has over 1300 songs on his computer and I had the winamp on random while I was browsing some Spuffy,  when "Crazy In Love" by Eminem came on.  And WOW, does it ever embody a lot of Season 6, especially if you like the idea that Buffy did love Spike at the time but it was just too fucked up for her to admit it, or that Spike was not in fact Price Charming during this time.  Different parts of the lyrics can describe both POVs, too.

Crazy In Love by Eminem, sampled "Crazy In Love" by Blondie
Tell myself that I was doing alright
There's nothin' left to do at night but
To go crazy on you, crazy on you
Lemme go crazy, crazy on you

Can't you see what you do to me baby?
You make me crazy, you make me act like a maniac.
I'm like a lunatic, you make me sick
You're truly are the only one who can do this to me
You just make me get so crazy.

I go schitzo, I get so insane I just go schizophrenic
One minute I want to slit your throat, the next I'm wanting sex.
You make me crazy, the way we act like two maniacs in the sack
We fuck like two jackrabbits and maybe that's a bad habit.

Cuz the next day we're right back at it, in the same exact pattern
What the fuck is the matter with us, we can't figure out if it's lust
Or it's love what's that is attracting us to each other
They say that every man grows up to marry his own mother.

Which would explain why you're such a motherfucking bitch
But I stay and still stick it out with you even though I just hit you today
But you deserved it you hit me first and provoked me to choke you
Just cuz I came home late last night crawled in bed and I woke you.

But if there's one thing about you that I admire, it's baby
Because you stick with me, maybe cause you're as crazy as I am
Cuz when I look at you I can see an angel in your eyes
But if I look deeper inside I see your freakish little side.

Like a devil in disguise, you're always full of surprises
Always pullin' devices out your purse, little vibrators and dildos
You fucked yourself so much you barely feel those anymore
You're only 24 but you're plenty more mature

Than those other little hos who just act like little girls
Like they're in middle school, still you're crazysexycool, chillin
You play your position, you never step out of line
Even though I stay in your business, you've always kept out of mine.

I wonder whats on your mind
Sometimes they say love is blind
Maybe that's why the first time I dotted your eye
You ain't see a sign.

Or maybe you did, maybe you like me inside
Maybe cuz we're crazy in love
Crazy on you
Crazy on you
Lemme go crazy, crazy on you

You are the ink to my paper, what my pen is to my pad
The moral, the very fiber, the whole substance to my rap.
You are my reason for being, the meaning of my existence
If it wasn't for you, I would never be able to spit this, these sentences I do

And the irony is you rely on me as much
As I rely on you to inspire me like you do.
You provide me the lighter fluid, the fuel to my fire
You're my entire supply gas, the match, the igniter.

The only way that I am able to stay so stable is you're the legs to my table
If you were to break I'd fall on my face.
But I'm always going to make you feel I don't need you as much as I really need you
So you don't use it to your advantage.

But you're essential to me, you're the air I breathe
I believe if you ever leave me I'd probably have no reason to be.
You are the Kim to my Marshall, you're the Slim to my Shady
The Dre to my Eminem, the Elaina to my Hailey.

You are the word I am looking for when I'm trying to describe how I feel inside
And the right one just won't come to my mind.
You're like the pillar that props me up, the beam that supports me
The bitch who never took half, the wife who never divorced me.

You're like the root to my evil
You let my devil come out me
You let me beat the shit out you
Before you beat the shit out me.

And no matter how much
Too much is never enough
Maybe cuz we're crazy in love
I'm Crazy on you
Crazy on you
Lemme go crazy, crazy on you
