*If* you were following the Buffy s8 comics and stick to that canon, I would say Buffy only because I don't want to see her with Xander (cause it'd be ooky).  However, if your readers like your OC character, and respond well to her, then choose her.  IMHO, I would've liked to have seen Spike with an OC character during Angel's s5 (that wasn't Illyria).  I would've been okay with it.  Everything doesn't have to be Spuffy or Spike being alone :D

Nothing to do with Season 8. I started the story back in August last year.

RE: readers - that's the thing, I don't know, as most aren't reviewing. And I have done Spike/OC's before. I'm half and half on writing Spuffy and Spike/OC. I'd just like to get an opinion from someone who reads at least some of it. It's lonely inside my head. :P

I think you have to let your muse be yourguide, CM. Obviously, if you want to post it on Spuffy sites, there's only one way you can go, but if you don't care and are just writing a Spike fic, then I think you should do whatever you think will make him happiest. :) I've read a number of fics that have Spike paired with someone new - it always gives me a twinge that it isn't Buffy, but if the lack of Spuffiness is explained and believable, then I'm usually more than happy to have Spike in a healthy, loving relationship. Want my vamp to be happy.

I don't think you should try to bend a story that wants to go in one direction into some other direction just because readers (or potential readers) want it that way. You have to write what is right for your story, your characters and the situation in which you've placed them.

I'm still trying to get up my courage to send my work to a beta (if I can find one willing to review my stuff), but I always want Spike to be happy.  Whether that's with Buffy (or with Tara, my other favorite pairing), as long as he's with someone who cares about him, I'm happy.  You gotta go with what your story is telling you...don't worry about what the readers want or think, 'cause you'll never make everyone happy.

Slayme, I'm at a point where the story could easily go either direction, because he's on about equal footing with both, and I have endings in my head for either, so......The muse isn't being specific! :P  That's why I'm asking for any preferences, cuz it will help me make up my mind.

I have contemplated that.....I think it'll just be a matter of writing two endings, and not much change otherwise...unless the story makes a shift I can't see yet.

Well, I had to try... and hey, threesomes ain't kinky by default!  A tastefully done threesome can be really romantic.

In any case, good luck with it.  I know I had a lot of problems starting my fic, since I knew that the leading lad and lady weren't going to get together for many, many chapters.  Still, I think if you respect the characters and the general 'feel' of the show, people will like it.

And when all else fails, of course, throw in a hot bite! 

LOL....yes, bites can be nice.

Writing the two endings sounds like a good plan CM - Maybe by the time you get them both completed one or the other will strike you as the way you want to go.  And, if not, posting on different sites works too! 

I just updated with chapter 24. I'm thinking it'll be at least 30 chapters, but it might end at 30....I don't plan on dragging out the end, so we'll see. And I do like to end on a nice, round number. ;)

Chapter 25 is up, with Spuffiness! Buffy and Spike have their first date.

Not a happy chapter for my OC, though, poor thing.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm working on one of my other WIPs here, What If I'm Not The Slayer?. I know it's been reglected for quite a while, and I needed a break from the angst of Choices, so.....Chapter 8 coming soon.

Strongly agree.  Your muses will be happy, and your readers will get to choose which ending they prefer!  :)  For example, I simply can't read anything other than Spuffy.  I've tried, I really have.  But, less than halfway through, even if it's a really good story with really cool characters, I completely lose it.  lol.  I just up hating Spike, hating the other girl, fighting the urge to throw things and desperately wanting to give Buffy a big hug.  And, trust me, Spike and I have enough issues as it is.

So, while I wholeheartedky say you must write what you feel, I know I would appreciate at least one ending be a happy spuffy tale.  ;)

Choices is complete! I originally started it in early August last year, so it's been a long journey. I hope you guys like the ending. Sorry there's no sex. :P  It's an ending, but it's open, too. I usually don't wrap up every little thing, because life isn't like that, either. But....

I suppose I've left room for a sequel. Imagine on that as you will. :D
