Spike on Top?

Jul 01 2007 08:17 am   #1Scarlet Ibis

Okay, so I was wondering... Out of all tv/movie characters, or actors (whichever you'd prefer to see it as), would Spike/JM be your number one?  What made me think of this was this marathon of Nip/Tuck that was on tonight, and my goodness, would it be ever so close between Julian and James.  Either JM would be a win, but... McMahon is taller with an actual accent, but Marsters has way better hair.

Forgive me if this thread is odd- it's way past my bedtime, and Dr. Troy has deeply affected my mind at the moment.

Back to the question- would anyone trump JM/Spike in your book?  Hmm?

Nope, not anymore. I've just taken to him like no other.

Nope.  There's just something about Spike, and the way Mr. Marsters plays him, that cannot be beaten.  Also, from what I know of him, Mr. Marsters is a nice guy all around.  Nothing can top that, in my book.

Hey, Scarlet.  James has an accent - American.  James is my man, although Pierce B runs a very close second.

Jul 01 2007 07:01 pm   #6Scarlet Ibis

Well yes, but I'm American, so for me, it doesn't count (though his voice is still sexy).  But at the end of the day, for me personally, no one really trumps JM.  A close tie with one man, but nobody beats him :D

For me he is first, but in a very close tie with Johnny Depp.

Hmm... well, if I didn't know before, this weekend definitely settled it. :) I can't think of anyone else besides James I would drive four hours to see... and there's definitely not another soul on this earth that I could sit through a five-hour traffic jam to get to their concert and still say it was worth it... So, yeah, he's number one for me. :)

I thought JM was canadian.

Jul 02 2007 06:09 am   #10Eowyn315

Nope, Zoe... he's a California boy. I know a lot of people mistake him for British, because he's so well known for the accent, but you're the first I've seen who thought Canadian.

Yep, born and raised in California. Grew up in Modesto.

How was your weekend, Eowyn? I've been reading other con reports and seeing pics, and it seems James was in top form and great spirits. Kicking myself for not being there, LOL.

Jul 03 2007 12:53 am   #13Eowyn315

I only went to the concert, CM, not the con... but that was great - with the exception of the unbelievable traffic jam that turned a four hour drive into an eight hour hellish nightmare. But we (I went with two RL friends) managed to keep ourselves entertained by playing the license plate game (32 states, 2 Canadian provinces, Washington DC, and diplomat plates), singing along to Once More With Feeling, eating a record number of Dunkin Donuts munchkins, and observing road rage in action.

We ended up missing the first show, but we did get there in time for the later show (and big thanks to ClawofCat for making sure we could switch our tickets!). We only saw one Spike wannabe, but the Spangel license plate in the parking lot made me giggle. That's some serious fan dedication.

James is adorable in concert - the music was good, but honestly, not the best part of the show... and he pretty much knows it. "I'm a whore, but I'm a high-class whore," I believe were his exact words. He has an interesting combination of knowing he's sexy and playing it up (what was that he said about the energy of an impending orgy? And, more importantly, how do I get in on it?), but also being really sweet and humble about it. He was joking about it going to his head, but you can kind of tell from the way he talks about it that he's pretty well grounded. Loved when he said, "Can I take you home to show my kids?" Um, let me think... yes, James, you can. :-P You can take me home and do whatever you want with me...

Hmm, what else? He refused to sing Rest in Peace (claiming, "I don't do covers... get Joss to sing it," but if you've seen the reports from Collectormania, you know it's because he can't remember it) and refused to show us his penis. (Yes, someone actually shouted that.) He looked hot, as always (though that was an awful lot of shiny around his neck...) - that is a pretty, pretty man.

We didn't get many good pictures - the lighting was terrible during the second show. I think a spotlight was out, and poor James looks like a red, glowy devil man in the pics we took. I'm told it was better for the first show, so I'll be snagging pics from people who were there. It seemed like a lot of fanfic people stayed for both shows (not to mention spending waaaaay too much time at Applebee's, lol), so I got to meet people, but didn't spend the hours of quality time everyone else did. I did, however, learn new and interesting things about what 8 hours in a car does to my friends...

We didn't wait around for him to come out afterwards - when we left, the limo was still parked outside and people were congregating. Anybody know if he signed autographs or anything? He couldn't have hung around that long, since we went to the next light and made a U-turn, and by the time we drove past the club on the way back, the limo was gone.

JM is probably one of the sexiest men alive. So yeah, if I were picking in 'sexiest' actor/character, he would top that list. McMahon is also very sexy (prefer him on Charmed) but Marsters tops him. Wedged somehere between those two ;) would be Tom Welling (Clark Kent on Smallville).

Eowyn - by the time Kat and I got back to the host hotel, Steve was already there, as were some other of James' "people". From the short bit of convo in the elevator, I would say that he was already back and in his room.  I didn't notice a limo outside the club (although, it makes sense that's how he got there), but we did see the women waiting outside the back door.

It occurs to me that I never responded to the original question. LOL  Since I haven't behaved like a fangirl of any sort since I was 12 (can you say Elvis Presley?), I guess I'd have to say James.  If you'd asked me ten years ago if I would fly across the country just to see in person a rather minor actor from a TV show, I would have said you were insane.  And, once I'd seen him, if you'd told me that I would take a perfectly lovely weekend and drive to NYC just to see him again for a few brief minutes....so, yeah. Guess I'm on the all James, all the time bandwagon. :)

James is the only man I've ever made an effort to see.  In my early/mid teens, it was about James, The Rock, and Eminem.  The other two were much more easy to see as far as concerts or appearances, but I waited, saved my money, and begged by bff to have her dad drive us, and see JM in concert.  Furthermore, my... fangirl-ism(?) for James outlasted the other two as well.

Oh, I did see David Boreanaz, and nervous as heck, but seeing James... nothing tops that.  Okay, I gotta find some money and see him again.  All this talk of cons and stuff I haven't been to is a downer, and yet an inspiration at the same time :D

As much as I adore Spike/JM I have to admit that Christian Kane is who really gets it for me.  I loved him on Angel and stopped watching Close to Home when his character died.  For the chance of seeing him I'm almost thinking of taking the 45 minute drive from my house to Park City for the Sundance Film Festival this winter, something I have never bothered to do, as he is often there.

He's going to be at DragonCon at the end of August, Scarlet.

Thanks for the report. I've gotten to see James sing 3 times, collect all the song clips I can find, and he really is fun to go see. Even when I got hit in the head by a flying drumstick. :P

im sooooo poor at the moment so was so happy when he came to Collectamania in MK [its the city i live in thank god lol] but if i had the money i would go his concert in Wales AND stalk the studios where he is filming

yet i don't even think of money making [busking, selling my hair, tattooing my body with JM tats then selling photos or even the body on ebay etc...] for anyone else i've liked before. yeah i've had moments where im like 'who is that guy sitting in the cafe/in the distance /in this really crap [or good] film but not as much as for Spike

I almost hate to admit this ... but James isn't the top of my list. He's definitely in the top five, but he's my number three, not my number one. :::ducks rotten tomatoes:::

I'm not telling who my numbers two and one are, because I have a feeling I would be setting myself up for huge backlash. :P

LOL - Fess up, UB.

For me, it is totally the character that has made JM. He's cute, and sweet, and a good actor - but when I go to see him, I'm really looking for signs of Spike. lol.  I think the reason that James has taken my fancy over, perhaps, better-looking actors, is that I fell in love with the character first - and then the man who brought him to life.  I just can't remember ever being this wrapped up in a man (shhhh, don't tell hubby) - so I'm blaming it on Joss.

Don't blame it on Joss- Juliet chose him to work with her, and James' wonderful performance kept him there!!  Gosh, if he wasn't on that show... we all wouldn't be here.  Isn't that something?

Scarlet, why did that just remind me of the "if my mother had married someone else, I wouldn't be me" argument? lol

The funny thing for me, I think, is that I love Spike, and I love James... but for completely different reasons. Obviously, the awesome acting talent is a factor in both, but James is the sweet, adorable guy I want as my boyfriend (plus, I am immediately in love with any guy who plays the guitar), whereas Spike is the hot, dangerous guy I want to have illicit sex with. I know a lot of people have said they like one or the other, or only like James because he was Spike, but I like them both separately in a weird multiple-personality type thing...

As for UB's secret lovers, I'm gonna guess that one is Colin Firth. I know she's mentioned Johnny Depp and Stephen Colbert, too... not sure which of those would beat JM.

Scarlett! That is such a guh! kind of reminder.  Not something I had ever thought about, but you are absolutely right - without Spike/James we probably wouldn't know each other; and we certainly wouldn't be here. Some of us, who were already into fanfic things, might very well have joined BtVS communities, but for most us, I would guess that we would be doing something else entirely with our lives.

E, I so agree.  I appreciate the character of Spike, but I adore the actor- James is totally down to earth, with an amazing talent, and can play guitar and sing.  What can be better?

And Slayme, I know for certain that I wouldn't have gotten into fan fic at all had it not been for him, and I wouldn't be as... developed a writer in regards to my own work.  Writing as well as reading fan fic has definitely had a hand in grooming me for writing my own work, and hot damn, would I be one bored gal if it wasn't for all of this Spuffy stuff :D  And I just love this forum...  I have no clue what I'd be doing if it weren't for this, which could be an interesting new thread, but I don't think I want to know, lol.

That is an interesting question... where would I be without James/Spike?

I still would've gotten into BtVS - since it was my college roommates (Bangel fans, oddly) who got me watching it - but I might not be quite as obsessive about it. I've read and written fanfic for other fandoms, but I don't know that BtVS would've inspired me to write if it weren't for Spuffy... since that's pretty much the only pairing I write. And, like Scarlet, I wouldn't be as developed of a writer. My writing has definitely improved by leaps and bounds by writing Spuffy (I dread the thought of reading my Sliders or West Wing fic nowadays).

Writing should feel easy, like a monkey driving a speed boat.
Jul 08 2007 01:55 am   #29slaymesoftly

Well, there's no doubt that I wouldn't be around.  I would still have been a huge fan of the show, and sorry when it ended, but I didn't even know there was such a thing as fanfic until I went looking for sites about BtVS to help me know what had happened on nights that I missed it.  And, I certainly wouldn't be writing it!  I'm pretty sure we can lay that right at Spike's door. LOL

UB, you are more than free to love others more than you love James... if only because that means it's less competition for me, when I'm convincing him that he's in love with me. :)

Also, as much as I love Stephen Colbert, I have to agree with Scarlet... I'd choose Jon Stewart over SC. (Although, a decent compromise would be a political humor sandwich with me in the middle!)

UB - Oddly, your feelings for Matt Damon seem to exactly mirror my feelings for Ben Affleck.  He really irritates me!  Matt, though, I feel is basically a nice geeky guy.

As for the original post question:  After 15 years, I've still got a massive jones for David Duchovny **blushes**.  Ah, first love.  I loved seeing James in NY, and if he was seriously interested I would not turn him away, but I'm not sure he's on top of my list.  Although last weekend definitly shot him up into the top 5.  What can I say, smart is sexy.

Jul 10 2007 08:08 pm   #47pfeifferpack

Nope Jm on top for me (and that includes many lifetimes of cuties in my 52 year old past!).  I'm gonna have to retire number one slot just for him.

The weird part is that he's not even my "type" physically!  I saw pictures of "Spike" before I ever saw a show and thought, "huh?  What's the big deal?"  Then I watched and fell completely in love with Spike.  It's his non verbal acting that did me in...the eyes, the hand and body movements, the way he speaks volumes without uttering a word.  The emotions written on his expressive face.....GUH!

I love Spike.  Since JM IS a method actor, Spike comes from inside him somewhere.  Now, JM is MORE than just Spike and I may or may not like him (not having met him I couldn't say but judging from the way he treats all his fans as special and unique I'd say he's likely a nice fella).  Since Spike dwells within JM....yup, JM on top.

I'm with UB on Steve Colbert.  Damn!  Check out some of his photo shots, the man is serious hot as well as smart and funny and gutsy.  As much as I love Jon, Steve has it in spades!

Johnny Depp is another current hottie along with long time lusts like Michael Praed (80's Robin of Sherwood series...check it out and lick screens ladies),  and Pierce Brosnan.  THAT is my "type", dark hair and eyes, long lean bodies, near "pretty" but still masculine faces.  But lust worthy as they may be NO ONE tops JM/Spike for me.  Michael Praed comes in a close second for the permanent number two slot.

Kathleen

having visions of lovely man-flesh in her head now!  As for the married part...hey I'm married and wouldn't cheat on MY Jim (hubby's name)and if I were single wouldn't stand a chance with any of these guys anyway...it's fantasy, that's all, but such a FINE fantasy.

Michael Praed was Robin of Sherwood on the BEST version of the legend of Robin Hood ever don IMHO.  It was a BBC production in the mid 1980's and was produced by Richard Carpenter (the producer of Ghandi and other films).  EXCELLENT and worth hunting down.  It mixed Robin Hood legends (both major versions) with Celtic mythology in very unprettied up settings that just felt real.  PBS carried it here in the US, as did Showtime...it still holds up to viewing.

Jensen Ackles is a close second.  Totally hot, and one hell of an actor.

I must like the bad boys.  Spike's on top, followed by Smallville's Lex, and then some of those nasty Slytherins.  I thought Alan Rickman was just the coolest bad guy in the original Die Hard.
