Account activation - by Dia

Oct 20 2007 02:15 pm   #1Diabola

I just cleaned up the database a bit, and stumbled over several not activated accounts. Quite a few come with AOL addys, so those people probably never received their activation emails. I sent out an email to all of them, asking for a reply if they want me to activate their accounts by hand.

Now to why I'm putting that here. I already had three mail-delivery error messages informing me that some of the addys don't exist. If you tried to create an account here, but can't log in because you never received an activation email AND you didn't get the email I sent about five minutes ago, please contact me so we can figure out which account was yours (since there is probably a typo in your email-addy).

I think I may be one of those persons. When I tried to sign in to the BSV for the first time, something went wrong and I couldn't do it with my e-mail: cereza@wp.pl. However, I was quite desperate to sign in, so I used my alternate address. I should probably write to you and ask if you could help me but I chose the easier way. So if this e-mail is one of those non-active, you can delete it. Sorry for the trouble.

Nope, you're not on the list.

Looking at your email addy, I think you may not have been able to use it at all. There used to be a rule that an URL must have at least three characters, and when I programed the BSV, I forgot that that had been changed some time back. The registration form has some controls worked in to avoid mistakes. The "rule" for email addys is this: At least one character, followed by an @, followed by at least three characters, followed by a dot, followed by at least two characters. Like I said, the "three characters" thing is an old standard and I should probably change it. ;-) But that's why your addy didn't work.

But thanks for letting me know, I didn't notice that I need to change that "rule".

Dia - I am a moron - I signed in twice.  I'm not using spikeztart (no underline) so you can delete.  Sorry to be such a bonehead.

Hi

I'm probably one of the problems.  I signed up as Mabel Marsters some time ago but could never access it thanks to aol.  I signed up for yahoo and managed to create an account as Mabel M.  I would love it if the Mabel M details could be changed to Mabel Marsters as that is what I am everywhere else.  If it isn't possible please feel free to delete the Mabel Marsters one.

Many thanks x

my tongue still misbehaves, keeps digging my own grave.

Dia - there's a forum entry from someone who wants to delete an account. Did you see that?

And, we won Best Fan Fic Site at Sunny D awards, so congratulations!
