Once again you've done Gold Medal storytelling! Your stories and way of looking at things and your lovely writing style are such a gift to the Spuffyverse. I can absolutely believe it happened just as you say--Buffy did know she loved him but, being typical butt-headed Buffy, never got around to saying it until it was almost too late.
Wow, I don't think anyone's ever given me a gold medal before! ;) I find it hard to believe that Buffy didn't love Spike, considering the bulk of S7, and this was the most reasonable explanation that I could come up with. :)
