Oh, that’s alright, then. As magic never goes off the rails, and all.” - hee hee!

Really really hope there's more.  :)
Oh thanks so much for the comment, and I'm so happy to amuse you! (Sorry for the delay in responding!)

I might come back to this, but I've got several others in the works first!

I loved it. It actually made perfect sense. Buffy was never known for actually saying what she meant when she meant it. She constantly screwed up that relationship even inadvertenly. Please say you are going to continue this story. Would love to see what happens next!
Thanks so much for the nice comments! I'm very glad you enjoyed it, even if things aren't looking so promising for our heroes. They are their own worst enemies — or would be except that their many enemies are pretty bad, too. I'm not sure when I'll work on a sequel to this, although I am confident that Spike will return and Buffy will be ready latch on when he does...unless some apocalypse or other distracts her. What are the chances?

Wow. I think this goes down as one of my favorite short Spuffy fics of all time. More, please? Lots and lots more?
Wow right back attcha. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and it's very kind of you to tell me you liked it so much. It always pains me to give our couple anything but a happy ending, but theirs is a complex story, and the twists and turns can also be fun. Right?

I have a few stories that could use a follow-up, including this one. Whatever happens, there will be more Spike and Buffy from me this spring! Thanks for the encouraging words!

I hope you intend to right a sequal.
We do like our happy endings, don't we? I am waiting for the end of S8 to see if inspiration for a sequel strikes. Right now, our couple seem to be stuck in a cycle of miscommunication, but I also hope that they will break out of that. I'm pretty sure that Spike will be back, whatever else happens!

S8 they didn’t actually happen  = Thank god  this is a vast improvement.  Now if you can kill off a few more slayerettes and send Buffy chasing after Spike  :)
Hmmm. Buffy in the bug dimension...it has possibilities! I'm glad you found this an improvement over S8, though it's not too hard to imagine a lot of options that would fit the bill. Thanks for commenting.

Oh, you broke my heart with this! And what strong writing you do. At the beginning it was so charming and witty; I loved the Friends of Dawn Club line!  Then it got serious when Spike met Buffy and spoke to her, sweet when she awoke and looked at him with love, and then the angst, incredible angst to hear her say "angel", feel Spike's inner pain, and then have him leave before discovering Buffy meant "angel", not "Angel" (with a capital A).  You are very talented at taking your reader through a wide variety of emotions.  I look forward to reading more of your stories!
You know, that's the kind of review that reminds writers of why we do this. Gosh. I am chuffed to bits that this journey worked so well for you.

I generally do 2-3 Spuffy stories a year that are long enough for this archive, but I have lots of shorter Spuffy pieces as well as stories about other Buffyverse characters. You can find a complete list, divided by season, here:

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave your very kind review!

no, not the end!!!  please!!
Alas, for now it is indeed the end. But! Spike will be back. He always comes back. We just have to see what form S8 takes before the story can play out...

The end?  I sure hope not.  I was just getting comfy!
I'm glad you liked it enough to want more! I'm waiting for S8 to play out in real time before taking another look at this, but rest assured, in this universe, Spike WILL be back.

Like this, a lot.  The inner dialog for Spike was right on, all the complexities and vulnerability, and the casual veneer carefully in place, with the poet peeking through.  The writing was strong, and the conclusion of Dawn's, about the train wreck, devastatingly accurate.  Whether or not you want to write a continue this is entirely up to you, but it would be an interesting challenge to see if you could maintain that level of inner dialog for Spike, and add it for the others, while building a plausible scenario around a chance to quietly heal.

In any case, thanks for writing this.

Thanks for all your detailed commentary, Saggit! You are very kind, and I'm glad you liked it. I am a bit of a slave to canon, so I'll probably wait to see what happens with S8 before deciding whether to continue. I do know that Spike will be back. What kind of shape Buffy will be in when he comes is less certain. She's certainly managed to pull herself together from very tough mental places before, but I think she's been damaged so much that it will take something more than her own bootstraps this time. For what it's worth.
