She was destroying him as he was trying to help her. The horror in Spike's eyes during Seeing Red, well I just wish we had seen more of it from her in the alley. Sure they was some but it was mostly horror because she realized that everything she was saying was about herself. IMO

Even though she doesn't say sorry in this story, I think she really feels and that was missing on the show. She was still stuck on the only good vamp was Angel and therefore she didn't have to feel sorry for anything she did to Spike. And that made it okay to over react to everything Spike might have done wrong.

I really liked this.

Simply amazing. You are right, This scene is exactly what that episode was missing...
Beautifully done.

They are so broken at this point.  so sad.  I always thought that the show overlooked her physical abuse of Spike way too much.   No one deserves to be used as a punching bag, not even another species.  I think they missed a chance to make a statement about such behavior, regardless of whether it's done by a male or female.  When they fight each other, that's a bit different, but when she simply hit and beat him when he couldn't respond...  that was just wrong.

Of all the moments in series, this episode was one point where her behavior was just unacceptable.  Not unforgiveable, but definitely something she should have been called on.  I like that in your version, she at least feels remorseful.  She knows she's done something reprehensible and she's ashamed.  Soemtimes the victim can't see that they're a victim, but if the perpetrator sees themself, they can change... that's what happened to Spike in Seeing Red.  He took a good look and he knew he had to stop and change his behavior.

thanks,

Blue

This.  Was.  So.  Good.

That I wanted to leave a multi-sentence review, but all I can think to say is how good this was.  Thanks for sharing it.

beautifully written piece. Such a difficult subject, so heartbreaking to read but I loved it.

Gah! And yes. That does reflect what may have happened off camera. Something had to, and you captured it beautifully.
Thank you! :) There's so much nuance going on in that episode that while I can see Buffy being too horrorstruck to confront Spike after the beating, it's just as possible that she'd need to take care of him instead, even if it's awkward and stilted and while hating herself.
