So very glad to see an update to this story! It's been one of my favorites right from the very beginning.
You depict Willow well in this---she comes through clearly as very strong, plus very powerful in this; much more together than she is often depicted. 
Interesting bit of near-necromancy there at the end between Willow & Andrew, especially with the opposing aspects that would have vied in Willow's mind in regards to touching the dead----her Jewish upbringing surely broaching aversion to it, yet her more earthy Wiccan respect for the full-circle of life and death; then to wrap it up her gun-slinging practicality learned on the Hellmouth, to just DO what has to be done when it is called for, and get thru it.
Can't wait for a showdown between Willow and Ethan---surely it's a-coming!?

Oh YAY!!!  Hope Buffy heard this but at least Willow also knows what Giles has done.  Hope Willow transports herself into the mess in Ireland in time to show Ethan what a REAL witch can do.  THEN  will be time to feed Giles to Spike and make him feel all better *G* .  No, I suppose that wouldn't be "the right thing to do" either but there needs to be REAL punishment...after all he did to Spike, to Buffy and to poor Andrew he needs to pay ultimately.  Besides he has obviously been helping his old lover with his enterprise there and slaving is another sin to Ripper's debit.

Ok, I get that this can't be easy because when has it ever been for these two. I just hope that the bad is coming to an end so Spike has a chance to heal and Buffy gets to prove that she meant everything she said. I'm still all about Willow getting a chance to save the day and maybe this is it. Just don't think my heart can handle much more Spike suffering, he's already been trough too much!

I'm really hoping that Buffy keeps that vow to herself to never let him go b/c it's very clear now that the only things capable of healing Spike's wounds are Buffy and time. I'm looking forward to seeing this plan put into action. I was really disappointed not to see Willow finding out the truth in this chapter but hope she can still find out in time to help!

Absolutely breathtaking! My heart sobs for Spike and what he's been through and I only pray it gets better for him! I'm gonna torture Ethan worse than everything that's ever been done to Spike if Buffy doesn't beat me to him. Please post more soon and begin Spike's healing with his freedom!

I love Buffy in this story, trying to say and do the RIGHT things, the REALLY right things for a change....putting Spike ahead of her for once. He really needs to know she still sees him as a valid sexual being as well as loving him now, that he is not "tainted" or cheapened by what has happened. I think she's up for it.

How in the world does Giles expect to rationalize his actions? Even if Willow controls herself, I bet she'll be overcome with disgust and anger at Giles. Spike saved teh world after doing things no soulless demon should be capable of, was resurrected and didn't contact the love of his unlife so he could try to stand on his own and let her have a happy life. He fought and nearly died to save the world again, was viciously and brutally tortured and broken for months, risked himself more torture to save a stranger who turned out to be a Slayer, got away, and was left to Giles. Oh yes, of course submitting Spike to more torture and ugly treatment to keep him away from the girl who loves him is 'for the greater good' Giles!
Judging by Buffy's building rage, Ethan Rayne's end is not going to be pretty. I look forward to seeing if Spike will recognize Buffy or his reaction to her needing to prove it is her when he doesn't trust his instincts.
Great to see Dark-Willow and I look forward to her getting involved. I'm so happy this updated, but this just makes me want more!

I hope that Ethan doesn't sense the magic around Buffy! I also hope Giles doesn't sweet talk Willow with a load of bull....I want her to know the FULL of it, how Spike came to be in Giles' "care" and what he chose to do to the vampire who died to save them all.

Poor Andrew....I actually like him (and Dawn, another unpopular character) and wish he hadn't had to die. I am proud of him though and know Spike will be very touched that the boy cared that much about him.

I really REALLY hope Willow sees through Giles because Buffy is going to need a powerful witch on HER side (ie Spike's side) to take on Ethan.

Much as I despise that snake....he's always been a snake so no surprises there. The one I want to pay and pay and pay is Giles. He KNEW the sacrifice Spike made in the Hell mouth, he knows what he went through with Siron and still he sent him there!

As for poor Spike....he is a realistic rape victim feeling soiled, unworthy and damaged. Buffy will have to rebuild his self image and that will be hard on top of his soul issues with his years as a killing vampire (he was already feeling beneath Buffy from the time he got the soul, one of the reasons he stayed away when he returned in LA IMHO). On the money characterizations.

Poor Spike feeling so beneath everyone and so rejected by Buffy. That girl needs to make her feelings clear RIGHT NOW before he suffers any further by her stupidity. She can't walk away from him now like she did when he was in the high school basement....his ego can't take that sort of blow and make sense of it..he's not crazy, he's shattered.

Giles needs to pay big time! I feel terrible that Andrew is dead! He was a hero in this story and he also had all the answers about Giles' guilt. Hope Willow is wrong and he's not dead after all (okay, I kinda like the dope anyway).

Giles needs to be removed from control immediately. The simple act of his abetting Ethan and his enterprise (even before Spike)shows he's not fit in the least. He's gotta pay as does Ethan.

Those slayers seem to be more a liability than anything else. They don't seem to have much respect for Buffy, do they? Maybe they learned that from Giles, who is surely not up to chasing Andrew across rooftops! I hope Spike can regain enough of his nerve to whup Ethan Rayne.

Wonderful suprise to have this pop up! Love this story and am on pins and needles for both Spike and Andrew. Such evil afoot! The new Slayers need to learn to obey Buffy. She said not to harm any vampires and they did anyway.

Great suspense. Buffy still isn't sure what Giles knows or his complicity in events...I had wondered at some point whether it wasn't really Giles, a duplicate or mind control or something, but now I don't think so- he otherwise acts so giles like - and seems to know Buffy so well- knowing from the conversation that she knows.

Why do I think taht Giles will trap Buffy 'for her own good'? Great Chapter! I am really looking forward to Slayer Vengence!

Excellent action scene, very visual. Will be interesting to see what happens to the two taken back to camp (already hate the human guard) wonder how the Vamp got guard duty (reminds me of the capos in Nazi camps...a victim that does whatever it takes to survive, even work for the enemy).

Yes!! Can't keep a bleached-bond poet-punk down! I love how Spike can just keep getting back up again after he's hurt so badly. I was surprised at Andrew, but also glad he was brave enough not to immediately babble all and beg for forgiveness and ruin Buffy's chances. It shows a lot more backbone for the little nerd than I expected.
I can't wait to see Ethan Rayne and Giles get what they so richly deserve. I'm sure Melinda and Buffy will take great pleasure in raining bloody violence down on Rayne's compound. I hope to see Buffy and Spike meeting and being able to talk everything out and vow love and all that. I hope when Giles is taken down, it is by Spike and Buffy together and disgusted by his self-righteous, despicable actions.

Spike is a real hero.

It's so obvious, no matter how beaten down he may seem. It took a long time to break him -and even then he was willing to risk torture for the mere chance that a Slayer could get away. Wouldn't have to be hurt.

I hope he can find happiness. It better be coming to him!

Revenge is a beautiful thing! I am so glad Buffy might help Spike get his at the same time of making someone pay for losing him, keeping him away from her. They so deserve to be together, especially Spike. I'm sure Buffy will not believe Giles' part in it at first.
I do hope, desperately, that Spike doesn't think Buffy is part of the reason he's a slave *again*. That betrayal would just be too cruel, but I know in his state he might convince himself. I'm sure Spike will fight, whether it's going to be being hurt by Rayne for information about teh invaders, or saving Buffy I don't know. But you can't keep him down! I'm so excited, can you tell?!

ALL RIGHT.....Buffy knows he's there and that's the biggest hurdle. Poor Spike not knowing what to think about Melinda but it is good she's there because Buffy isn't so clueless that she won't put the pieces together. She has SEEN and held him, she knows its real. Finally! The reunion was worth the wait. I imagine there's a lot of angst in store once Buffy finds out the atrocities that were met upon Spike. I hope she rails on Giles and Ethan gets the thrashing he deserves.

Buffy MUST find him. Before anything more happens. He doesn't deserve more to be done to him after all Spike has given up. How close Buffy came to finding out about Spike, and falling short, was painful. I know this is an angsty story, but there is such a thing as too much pain. They lived through a lot and now it's just cruel.
I hope the author sees that. I want some Buffy and Spike reuniting, beautiful writing, and everything they deserve! Please?

Wow, this is very good. I have been enjoying this immensely. Had a bit of a problem with the early chapters but kept with it. Love the finding of the place with Google and Mapquest--very cute and worth a laugh.

This is such a deeply distrubing story because you are able to express Spike's desperation and entrapment so well. Its also scarey because now he really must depend upon Andrew and Buffy to save him. I am so looking forward to Buffy tearing this place down and Ethan & Giles along with it. Only Giles is probably too well protected for her to really destroy him. Great story.

I am a little surprised that the other Slayers don't know about Spike - he did save the world. I just have to comment on the suggestion to detail out the rape scene. As I recall from my college lit classes, the most effective scenes like this are the ones "off-screen" because absolutely nothing (including the most detailed and graphic of descriptions) can beat the horror of the imagination. It was the technique used by the old Greek masters. I agree with my former professors that this is most effective way of producing an emotional response to the text. Consider the contrast between the true masters like Alfred Hitchock versus the beyond cheesy slasher movies which show every single graphic little detail. So my vote is for the way that you wrote it! Believe me when I say that I thought it was all graphic enough to make the hair of my neck stand up!

Twilight – sorry I wasn’t able to review every chapter as this story deserves. I only had time to read it all at once, but here are a few things I think would strengthen your story.

1. “He thought” - you almost never need these, any more than you need tags all the time for dialog. It reads smoother if you leave them out.
2. Description of our villain – I’d like to see a lot more about how he looks, smells, dresses, whatever. Also, some short description of his minions (are they the same species?) would be good.
3. Rape scene – I know it’s beyond gross, but I think you need to write it out and make Spike really suffer through it. It’s part of the whole degradation/breaking process. It’s tough writing this stuff if you’re a semi-normal human being, but I don’t think you can leave it out.
4. Italics – for HTML formatting so they show up on the site surround your text with here’s some text Those codes turn the italics on and off.
5. Your torture scenes were really good and icky. I’m glad you didn’t shy away from hurting Spike. The fang removal things was really squick. I liked it.
6. Melinda – good character – hope you’ll do more with her.
7. Andrew is a little too sane. He’s a hopeless goof and a great character. I’m glad you included him, but have more fun with him. He makes some excellent relief from the incredibly dark parts of this story.

All together a great and interesting story. Looking forward to more.

Oh yay!!!!!! Not a rescue...Spike saved himself! This will help him to heal from the loss of his "selfhood" thanks to Siron. LOVE that you had that happen....also glad his torture is over at last. So much more to tell, of course and I look forward to more chapters (and the reactions of Andrew and the Scoobies as well as Buffy when they find out what has been happening). Meanwhile, a COMPLETELY satisfying chapter.

Spike the Protector to the rescue! I love your writing DoS, but I'm particularly fond of the way you build suspense and leave the reader biting their nails or cheering or crying or some other strong emotional response. No one ends a chapter quite like DoS :)
