The past five years have made a muddle of both Spike and Buffy's lives.  Spike looks at her and sees home and she looks at him and sees uncertainty.  This world has been good to Buffy in its own way - kept her numb and busy.  She'd escaped the pressure of saving the world. Spike's been an outsider, seeking escape and not finding it.  They're right not to trust one another.

Cool - I figured the glow was Spike's soul, but I see it's not going to be that easy. 

Knew it couldn't be that easy!  I just hope Spike and Buffy are prepared.

Oh, very interesting story you have running here! If not his, then whose? Buffy's, perhaps? And, ouch. Even though he doesn't remember Sunnydale and loving Buffy, that 'I hate you' must have stung. Great chapter.

Poor pair....Spike has forgotten his love for her (or has yet to see HIS Buffy in this one) and she has forgotten her desire for her home and family (or is ashamed to go back).  That I hate you had to hurt though.

Something told me they'd got that book too easily... And Spike hasn't got his own... that is William's... soul which probably explains his difficulties trying to come to terms with it. I wonder whose soul he's got? I'm also wondering about Buffy's sudden change of heart...
