"Spike FLEEING" !?
Hmmph, despite all the hubub about her "changing" and being a different person, Buffy the same self centered little b1tch that believes that Spike's entire world should revolve around HER.
And Buffy did NOT "Choose her friends over Spike" all she did was keep him around stating that he "could be a good man, and that they needed him as a fighter, never apologizing for anything she did to him and even outright belittling him when he wouldn't act like the "animal" (fighter) she wanted him to be.
If Buffy had truly ever chosen Spike over her friends, then she would have told them to back off because it was HER house and SHE WANTED him there, not the constant cop-outs she kept spouting to try to appease her frieneds while never admitting that Spike meant anything real to her.

I think actions speak louder than words. Buffy kept Spike around regardless of Anya and Dawn's concerns. And she stood up for him to both Giles and Wood. Actually, her relationship with Giles got strained because Buffy chose Spike over him.

While Buffy may be able to argue that she chose Spike over her friends , she's gonna have a much harder time convincing him that she chose him over Angel. Especially considering that she kissed Angel after asking Spike if what he called the best night of his life had to mean anything . Add to that she told Angel she couldn't risk him and wouldn't let him wear the amulet on top of the things she did (and never apologized for) and he has very valid reasons to doubt her.
And Spike didn't flee, he died.

You're right. She'll have a hard time convincing Spike that she loves him.
About Spike fleeing, she was talking about him staying in LA instead of going to her. Choosing to stay away from her instead of with her.
