God I love Spike, but he needs to drop (this) Buffy to the curb.  Still pulling the use abuse and dash mode.  She suxs!  Xander lips lips of Xander! Yuck!!!

Unfortunately, real life, and this story more than anything to me is about the real world, is filled with sacrifice and loss on so many levels. 

How very sad and how very foolish these two acted in the past - there is nothing worst. IMO, then trying to play act at love or doing something because it is best for the children - The parents are terribly unhappy and it usually comes out with the children.  Either that or the adult partners manage to remove themselves from a real life together - go through their marriage or partnership as shadows. 

Buffy and Xander should be honest - try to live together if they want, but not try to pretend that they have a deep love for each other - not more than a great and deep love as friends.  Triangle relationships - very complex- what I think happens is that one of the people involved has to live with the idea, true or not, that the other person no longer loves them and accepts that their love has passed on.

An interesting treatment you are doing with Spike - like your idea of this being Buffy POV -

Buffy in denial.. and will hurt both Spike and Xander..
Girl needs to make up her mind.. and not use the child as a reason for her decision.
