...the magical equivalent of an idiot savant.

Emphasis on "idiot". I really like Evie. :)

I'm really glad Giles can see that he's at least partly responsible for Red becoming what she is.

OH everyone is blaming themselves for what Willow did and it is only Willows fault.
Lol! Well, perhaps (as you'll find out in subsequent chapters) I think there may be other places that at least some of theblame might be apportioned to, but Giles and Tara aren't it.

Thanks again.

Oh! Dawn gets the puppy! what scares me is what Evie said about tha last mated slayer, don't know if that's addressed here or in Angels and Demons. I thought Willow was aged alot more then that, but Tara's right she will try and do magics to reverse it for sure. Giles should not feel guilty about Willow, he had no idea that it would change her. That's like blaming someone for give a first drink to an alcoholic, you never know how somethings going to effect someone. Wonder what this Evie has planned for SunnyD? Another wonderful chappie, thanks a bunch.
Yep, Dawn gets the puppy. Well, lets just say that the council won't leave things as they are for too long.

I disagree re Willow. Your analogy would work, if Giles had only ever known her to use magic once, but he didn't just give her her first drink, he watched her become an alcoholic, and he KNEW what she was really like when he had that conversation with her after she brought Buffy back and she called him the amateur, but he still left.

Thanks, honey. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I like Giles denial.... he just doesn't want to believe it - love that they are kicking willow out and letting tara stay - why should willow get to keep the friends and home when she was the one who did wrong. great chapter!
Poor Giles... Admitting just how far gone Willow is means admitting his own share of the blame for letting her end up that way.

Definitely with you on the keeping Tara and ditching Willow. We never saw Willow lift a finger in that house despite supposedly being there to help look after Dawn, but she was the one who got to stay in canon? What's up with that?

wow...willow deserves to face the consequences of what she did though...i love spike comforting tara...so sweet....great chapter :)
Thanks, honey! If I remember correctly from when I was posting these chapters (not so long ago) you'll find out the exact nature of the curse in another two or three chapters.

I have to admit, I love Spike and Tara together, whether it's as friends or more. In a lot of ways they complement each other and she certainly doesn't make things as fraught as Buffy sometimes has a tendency to do, but in this fic you've probably guessed that their relationship is purely platonic.

love spike giving tara the support she needs. giles should have been the one explaining to her why this was just. he can be so dense. wonderful read, thank you.
Thank you!

I'm really glad you're enjoying it. The reason I had things work that way rather than the other is that Tara now knows Willow so much better than Giles does. Before their chat he may have been able to convince himself that this was just another slip up and that underneath Willow was basically the same timid schoolgirl that she always was.

Tara knows far better...

Wise Tara - unwittingly getting through to duh Giles with her calm reason. Deftly done.
Tara definitely is a wise soul. Even Giles isn't too stubborn to realise that.

Thank you!

Yep, definitely his fault. He never tried to train her. And Giles should have done the re-souling spell, not Willow.

Love the demon convo...love Spike's inclusion of Tara in the family, the poor thing.
Thank you!

Giles definitely needs to bear some of the responsibility for Willow's attitude. To be fair, though, at the time Willow decided to do the resouling spell (second time around at least - too long since I watched S2 to remember where he was when the original decision was made), he was kind of busy being tortured by Angelus, so we can't really blame him for that one.

Spike tends to tell things as he sees them and he's far too well acquainted with how it feels to be left on the outside to wish that on someone he cares about... and it was wayyy past time someone stuck up for Tara.
