Sunnydale Cemetery

Nov 30 2007 02:49 pm   #1DarkApple

Hi, everyone!

I have a question that I'm hoping someone here can answer: was there a name for the cemetery where Spike's crypt was?

Need the answer for a story I'm working on.  Thanks for any help you can give!

Wasn't it Restview?  Or is that another fanon fact that I'm assuming is canon?

It's Restfield Cemetery.

It was Restfield.  I am pretty certain of this.  I think the name of the cemetery was revealed in season four.  I think there was a pan- over view of a sign in one episode, that or one of the characters said something about the cemetery, and mentioned the name.

I thought Restfield being Spike's cemetery was a fanon thing, because Restfield is one of the few names we know. Restfield is definitely one of the cemeteries named in Sunndayle (the other is Shady Hill), but I think they were identified in a season 3 episode when Buffy and Faith are splitting up patrolling duties. If we ever saw proof that Spike's crypt is located there, I don't remember it.

ETA: Restfield is mentioned in Revelations - it's the location of the crypt where the Glove of Myhnegon is found. It's also in The Zeppo, when Giles goes there to communicate with the Spirit Guides. That is when we see the pan-shot of the sign. All the references I've found to Spike's crypt being there are fanon.

I'm pretty sure there was some word, though, because I knew it was in Restfield before I started reading fanfic......and hadn't watched much of season 3, yet. O_o

I've always thought it was Restfield, but I could easily have decided that based on fics which I just assumed were written by people who knew. LOL

Caro, I did a search for "Restfield" in the episode transcripts. It's not even mentioned after season 3 *at all,* let alone in relation to Spike's crypt. If you can find it somewhere, good for you, but I really think it's fanon.

It makes sense - we've only been given the names of two of the twelve cemeteries in Sunnydale, so when fanfic writers are looking for a place to put Spike's crypt, they go with the more common one (Restfield was mentioned in two episodes, one of which featured a sign, compared to Shady Hill's single throwaway comment). And, like all fanon, people read it and duplicate it until no one remembers it wasn't actually in the show.
