Changing Sides

Dec 07 2007 04:09 am   #1Nika

I heard something about the new Angel comics about Spike 'changing sides'. Do you think that means he's going to go evil again, or something else?

That would be the obvious choice...However, if I were to go for the quite possible "hidden meaning" answer, then I'd think they were going to make him gay (with Angel).  I cannot think of any other meaning beyond that, or going "evil."  Oh wait--becoming human.  Those are the only three options that come to mind.

Something else. Brian Lynch has pretty much said flat out that Spike won't be evil again.

From his blog:

But on that note, why does a mention of Spike changing sides mean he's going to be evil? There are more sides than "good" and "evil". Not everyone is a white hat or a black hat, don't fret, I'm willing to bet sometime soon you're gonna be like "ooooh, I as worried for nothing."

"Changing sides". They COULD be talking about Spike exploring his sexuality. They're not, but they could be.

Edit - well, I guess that answers Scarlet's question, too, lol.

Well, Spike was always more on the 'gray' side than anything really. I wouldn't care if he goes evil again, doesn't make me love the character any less. But, Brian Lynch has said many times to nervous fans that he would do right by him, so that has to count for something.

Could it mean him working against Angel?  Not in an evil capacity, but perhaps working another side of a case, in direct opposition to what Angel wants?  God knows, Spike's never gone against Angel's orders before, right??

Well, if you've read the first issue, you know that there are several sides, most of them shades of gray (including Angel's), so whether he's working with or against Angel, changing sides could easily mean Spike's getting *less* evil, lol.

Well, either way, I pretty much won't be reading them.  I have no interest in the Buffy comics, and Angel is no different.  I think I'll just stick to fan fiction.

When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.

Hey!

I finished the first issue and on the last page (maybe a couple of them) there was a terribly disfigured man-vampire (like an uber-vamp from Blade, and we don't find out who it is) that curses at the senior partners for having taken everything from him. His monologue ends with "But that's how I'm going to win. They think they've changed me."

The inner back cover has the cover of the next issue, which features Spike. For some reason the idea that maybe the creature IS Spike has been stuck in my head and it keeps freaking me OUT!!! And now the whole "changing sides" thing adds to that!

I just hope that's not the case, cause I'm renouncing the comics if things turn out that way!

Well, since I don't read the comics, I guess I'll be all right. But I did hear that Gunn is a vampire in them.

Ooookay!!! I have to admit I pulled a blond moment there (more than a blond week, since I've been thinking about it all week!)

I just checked the thing again, and it IS Gunn at the end (which I would have noticed, had I seen the stripes on the creature's jacket, which are the same as Gunn's) *smacks herself repeatedly*

Thank you so much for the eye-opener! I'm a happy Spuffy shipper now

****There is a Spoiler concerning Buffy VIII****

I think I like the 'Buffy Season 8' more than 'Angel: After the fall', then again I've only read one issue of the latter, so it's too early to say.

What bugs me about 'Buffy' is that they seem too caught up in their current situation, and with one exception of her dreaming of both Angel and Spike tied naked around her in chains, she doesn't seem to think about what she's lost much.

Plus, there seems to be some chemistry between her and Xander, and that just makes me :hurl: and :wall:!!!

I take my initial phrase back! I can't say I like them-like them, I'm just addicted and wanna see where they go from where we left them.

I still prefer fanfics though!

I heard Joss say that if there was going to be a six season on TV, that Gunn would be a vampire.  I guess he still went with that for the comics.  I'm once again very glad to not be reading them.

Hmm, I don't think I'll pay much attention to the Buffy comics, because, well, no Spike.

I'll probably end up buying Angel: After the Fall because my addiction will demand it eventually. Even though I'm not really a fan of comics.

But I'll probably always prefer the fanfics too.

I thought the Angel comic was very good. can not wait for the next issue.

Brian Lynch has made it clear that Spike is not evil. He's also a Spike fan and I doubt very much he'd do something like that to the character. He wrote Spike's Asylum and that was very good.

I haven't brought the comic and won’t be until its a tpb but I've read all the spoilers and people seem to like it. As people have said there’s apparently different sides and we don’t know if Spike is with a group of people or not yet. He’s in issue two which come out this month, so hopefully we’ll find out soon what he’s been up to.

I have no interest in the Buffy comics, Angel's team were always my favourites and a giant Dawn and castles are too childish for me. I'm hoping Lynch will make an enjoyable Angel comic. *crosses fingers*

His monologue ends with "But that's how I'm going to win. They think they've changed me."

Sotia, looks like you figured out that the vampire is Gunn, but the monologue is actually Angel's. It's kind of confusing, but someone asked Brian about it, and he clarified that the whole monologue is meant to be Angel.

I have no interest in the Buffy comics, Angel's team were always my favourites and a giant Dawn and castles are too childish for me.

Buffy has always been a more childish show than Angel, right from the beginning. Buffy was set in high school and college; Angel is in the adult world. Buffy fights monsters from horror movies and children's imagining of what's hiding under the bed; Angel fights an evil law firm. It's always had a more "grown-up" quality to it than Buffy. I don't expect the comics to change that.

OK  my blond moment/week is expanding! Thank you for clarifying this:)

Yes but the show didn’t have a giant person because they had a bad sexual experience. Actually they prob just couldn’t afford it and now I'm picturing a giant Buffy after Angelus' rejection.

I just think the buffyis out of college now and it's time to grow up but apparently not. It's all too ridiculous to me but each to their own.

Both shows had stupid monsters, what's up with that fish thing in After the Fall?

I think for a show that has vampires and different kinds of monsters, turning into a giant isn't that far-fitched.

The fish (Betta George) is a character from Spike: Asylum. Apparently, he was a fan favorite, and Joss liked him, so Brian brought him back for this comic. No word yet on whether that canonizes Asylum.
