Fangoria - NJ (June 20-22)

Apr 07 2008 04:04 am   #1spikeskat
At the behest of Slamesoftly, I'm putting up a post to see who's going to be making the trip to the Fangoria con in Secaucus, NJ. James is there Sat/Sun - doing photo ops, autographs, and a concert on Sat. night. Gen seats for the concert are just $35.00, I believe. The "preferred" seating is $55.00. (I think he's doing it right there at the hotel too.)

So... any takers?

I can't go this year, as it interferes with hubby's end-of-quarter work schedule!   Very annoying, considering the price is, yet again, a STEAL!

Haha, considering the transportation disaster from last year, I don't think I'll be able to convince my friends to go with me this year. But hey, if the concert's in NJ instead of NY like last time, maybe there won't be any horrible traffic jams...

I will most likely be going, seeing as the hotel is only a 2-hour drive for me.  E, I can almost guarantee you that there won't be any traffic jams.  There weren't any for me last year.  Seacacus (It is Seacacus, right?) is kind of surburban, eventhough it's so close to the city.  The drive home, though, when they closed the bridge to CT was probably equal to your experience of getting to Long Island :-P  Oh, the things we do for our boy...

I won't be able to go to that one, but yay, I just heard that James is going to Dragon*Con this year.  I might just have to go again now=)
When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.

Awww... man!! *pouts*

Eowyn, just taking a quick look at the Fangoria site, it looks like James is sticking close to the hotel. And, from what I remember, the hotel is practically right off the highway. I totally avoided the city when I came up from VA. ^_^

I don't think I'll be able to make it this year. Pretty sure the dates coincide with a cross-country month long roadtrip I have planned. Too bad. I went to the concert and not the con last year, and really did want to snag a chance at a picture with him.

Apr 07 2008 06:51 am   #8slaymesoftly
Yeah, this year no trips over the river(s) and through the woods (city) to Long Island for the concert. Much more convenient for everybody (except maybe Sevvy, lol).  *emos along with Kat for CK*    The only traffic I expect to have to worry about are people on their ways to and from the beaches.

I'm thinking I might go.  I'll have to check flights, hotels and all that good stuff.  My main thing would be I wouldn't want to be alone.

I'd love to go, but it's a long shot cross-country from CA. But hey, win the lottery, and I'm there!

Kinda the point of posting this up here (and it wasn't at my behest! I just said it was a good idea!) is that nobody will be alone. Gives everyone a chance to get roomies and find other people to meet up with when they get there.

I want to go, I want to go!!!  *pouts*  But can't.  NJ is a hell of a lot closer than England, but still outta my league this year.  It'd be about a 12-14 hour trip for me, and getting the time off work would just be a nightmare of epic proportions.  *sighs heavily*  BUT, I have started my JM fund; I'm bound and determined that I'm gonna see our boy, so hopefully NEXT year, I'll be both fiscally and employment-wise prepared.  Anybody who goes, make sure you bring your photographic memory, 'cause I'll be wanting LOTS of deets!!!

i go on leave on the **23th** to go home and get married on the 26th. i'm never gonna get to see him sing.

Firstly: Congratulations on your wedding!

Secondly: It never ceases to amaze me the RL things that we complain about getting in the way of our Jimmy lovin' ;-)  Last year, I didn't get to go to the concert because we were moving that day.  All I could think was, "For crying out loud, why'd we decide to move?"  I even considered asking Mr. IB if we could postpone the move a week, but thought the better of it :-P

So, I'm officially going.  Well, officially in the sense that I haven't yet told my husband, booked a room, or bought tickets :-P  But, once I get something in my head, I make it happen.  I'm so excited!  Two weekends in two months--I may never recover from the Jimmy haze :-D

LOL, IB! I'm still in negotiations with one of my friends who went last year. If I can get her to come with me, I'll definitely be there. If not, we'll see.

Question for anyone who went last year - how much were the single day admission tickets? They're not listed on the website yet, but I want to get an idea of how much it's all gonna cost.

Apr 20 2008 12:06 am   #22spikeskat

Eowyn, I think I remember paying about $20 for the single day admission, and that was just so I could listen in on James' Q & A. The photo op was about $60.00, if I remember right. I'm not sure if they've listed him as having a Q & A session this round, but I would think he would.

Anyway... hope to see you there. I'll be hanging with Slaymesoftly - if I'm not out by the pool. LOL!

Thanks! Yep, photo op is $60 and autograph is $35. Plus $25 for the concert, plus gas and the hotel room, and it's already pretty expensive for me, so I'm hoping not to have to pay a lot on top of that for admission.

Gen admission is always $20 or $25, Eowyn, so don't worry about that.

I'm pretty sure that the ticket prices are the same as they were in CA: $25 general admission, $50 or $55 assigned seating.  Concert, the same, I believe.  The rooms are $139, but there's always the possibility of roomies.  I'll probably go that route so that I can justify going to see Jimmy twice in two months :-P

One more question for more experienced con-goers. Do you need to buy a ticket for the con if you're just going to the concert? I was thinking no, but it's not really clear on the site. Obviously we didn't last year, since it was a different venue, but I don't know how it works when the concert's at the hotel. I'm gonna do the con stuff, but a couple of my friends might only go to the concert, and I don't want them to pay an extra $22 if they don't have to (I also don't want them to be surprised at the door if they do need the tickets).

In other news, I reserved the hotel room today. Whee!

I'm pretty sure you can just buy tickets for the concert--though they're in the same building (right?) the concert isn't officially apart of the con itself.  So as long as they don't show up way early while the con is still in progress, it should be cool.

And congrats--I have yet to purchase anything yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm going, gosh darn it!

As long as you're not passing through a door where they are checking for con wristbands, then your friends should be fine.

At Grand Slam, people were lined up outside, and then concert tickets were taken as we went in. No Creation checking for that part.

The concert tickets "must be purchased separately and are not part of any package."  Sounds pretty separate to me :-)

Thanks, guys. And yeah, IB, it does sound separate, but James' auto and photo tickets also need to be purchased separately and not as part of a package, but you still need an admission ticket, so I just wanted to make sure. :)

Kat and I think we remember buying our con tickets after we got there last year.  I think they were only $20 then, for one day and that seemed sufficient as we were only interested in the Q and A with James.  We did wander through the vendors, but that was about the only other thing that required a con wristband.

Slayme, I bought one when I got up there - along with a photo op (and I sooo wanted to drag the security guard into the photo with me *snerk*) ticket. I think you bought an "extra" day pass because you couldn't find yours. And, yeah, I think it was $20.00 and that let us see the Q & A as well as quickly wander through the vendors area. Have they announced whether or not if he is going to do another one?

Ah, good to know. Thanks, CM!

Yeah, I wonder what the chances are that the same guy will be doing security/line control this year?  He was a very tasty appetizer (not that I tried to actually, you know, taste him, but...) - and easier for me to  talk to than the main course. lol

Slayme, you naughty girl, you! :spank:

I'll be bringing the Wii for the kidlet; think if we started an impromptu Wii party back in the room we'd get a response? LOL! Well, if Mr. Scrumptious shows again for line control, that is. Hehehehe...

Good to know about the Q & A, CM. Guess I'll be bringing my handy dandy notebook to transcribe again. :fic:

From JM.com
James has accepted a fantastic new acting role from a UK company. We will share more details with you about the project once producers have given us the okay to do so. However, we wanted to tell you as soon as possible because unfortunately it conflicts directly with the Fangoria Convention of June 21-22 in New Jersey. As of now we still expect to be able to attend DragonCon in August, but must cancel the earlier event and we apologize for the inconvenience we know this will cause to some of you.

From my e-mail:

Dear Loyal Fan:

On May 15, 2008 James Marsters announced that he has accepted a movie role in
Europe, and he has advised us that he cannot appear at our Fangoria NJ Convention.
We are currently in the processes of refunding all credit cards for James' concert, his
autograph ticket and his photo ops. As you know there are no refunds of seating
tickets to any of our conventions.

Please note though, that we are just about to announce some FANTASTIC additional talent
for the New Jersey event, so be on the lookout on our website www.creationent.com
as well as through our targeted emails.

If you have any questions on this process please feel free to write to edrod@creationent.com.
We regret the inconvenience and wish james luck on his new role, and we look forward
to having him appear at a future convention.
