so this is going to be from the field outside of the ballpark of left field. I was reading something about something tonight and came across something that said that SMG wore some times green but mostly hazel contacts for BTVS. so i did a little research, cause i wanted to know what her real eye color is, not that i really care that much but....then i couldn't find any thing that told me what it was.so now, out of sheer annoyance i wanna know.
i close with my question; does any one know for definite what SMG's real eye color is???
:grr: stupid internet spose to have every thing........
Your heart will break, your tears will fall, but don't be suprised, if there is someone there, to catch you when you fall. Becuase you, yes you, are awesome.

LOL.

Well, this photo (extremely large) might help clarify.  It doesn't look like she's wearing contacts in it, and her eyes look pretty hazel to me. *squints* Or, they might be a shade of gray with a bit of brown around the iris...

Holy crap.  That is one large photo.  No, she doesn't look to be wearing contacts.  I wear contacts, and, when you're as up close as that pic, you can see the outline of the lens.  And brown-gray-green is pretty much the definition of hazel :-)

I googled Sarah Michelle Geller real eye color and several places it is listed as green, though they look a bit like dark gray-green in several photos. And don't forget, even if she's not wearing contacts, a lot of the photos of her on the internet might have been photo-shopped!

When reading fanfic, how many people get annoyed by reading Buffy's eyes as being the 'wrong' color?

BTW, we all know SMG isn't blond, but the character of Buffy is supposed to be blond. So, in fics, does it bother anyone when the hair color is described as real or called fake and dyed and grows out sometimes if away from a stylist trapped somewhere?

wow! that is gigantic! wel, that's actually something i always wondered too, the whole eye color thing. it seems that everyone says they're green, but those look more hazel-y to me.

oh, and the blonde buffy/SMG thing... yeah! that always bothered me and i was never sure if it was supposed too. is buffy supposed to be a natural blonde? is that canon? cause, dawn is a brunette after all...

She was shown as a little girl blonde.

And William's first wig as a more darker blonde honey color than brown.

When Willow went inside Buffy's mind in the "Weight of the World" it showed a blonde 4-year-old Buffy, but when we saw the flashback of an 8-year-old Buffy from "Killed By Death" she was a brunette.  I think it's obvious that Buffy wasn't a natural blonde since she wasn't very blonde in the beginning of the series, you could tell she was dying her hair as the seasons went on.
When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.

Okay, several things...

In "Intervention," there is a close up of her eyes, and they are hazel.  When Buffy first started, I don't think she was wearing contacts at all (though she could have been--I didn't take the time to study them, and I'm not going to--someone else, feel free), and her hair color was a much darker blonde.  At any rate, they look brown here in "I Robot, You Jane": http://www.buffyworld.com/buffy/vidcaps/008/08_01.jpghttp://www.buffyworld.com/buffy/vidcaps/008/08_03.jpg  But they look lighter in that season's finale, "Prophecy Girl."  Whatever color it is, it's lighter than dark brown.  http://www.buffyworld.com/buffy/vidcaps/012/12_08.jpg

Some children, when younger, are blonde (James was blonde), and when they are older, are brunettes.

SMG is a natural brunette, with I believe, brown eyes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXJEdV6U1Tk

ETA:  Look at the pics on seasons five-seven--My (annoying) little sister pointed out to me at that in all the pics on the cover of the DVD box sets (including the Spike DVD with the Spike centric eps), Buffy's eyes are hazel in all of them.

:clears throat:

hazel: of eyes : of a variable color averaging light greenish-greyish brown

So, like I said, hazel is brown-grey-green.  It's what we call eyes when they don't quite fit any of those colors.  Kind of like when you were a kid and tried to make brown PlayDoh.  You put in some green and some yellow and some red, and mushed them all together; but you never really got solid brown.  All you came up with was an indiscernible swirly mass of muddy green with some orange streaks.  Mr. IB has hazel eyes.  Sometimes I'd swear they were green; other times, they look almost taupe.  It's a mish-mash color.  So, you see, everybody's right ;-)

Okay, but that's for natural eye color.  My theory is that she's wearing contacts ;)  With contacts, you have the perfect color of hazel, and it's just the one shade, not a mixture.  There's always the point that perhaps the color was manipulated for the box covers, but I don't see much point of that since the other people's shade of eyes (James, Michelle, Nic, Alyson) are spot on.

ETA: As for the original topic of this post, cause I'm fairly certain it came from the "Did Joss Lie To Us?" thread where I mention the whole "blue" eye color thing in TGIQ, be them green and swirly brown or hazel contacts or whatever, the one thing that we can all agree on that they were never blue anything :P

holy crap you can see the peach fuze on her face that pic is so huge!! so yeah, i started wondering about her real eye color because of the lieing joss thread. and i'm super thankful for all, who took obviously way more time then i put in, to find the answer.

i always took her as a brunette who died her hair.  as scarlet ibis stated, many children start out with blonde hair and grow out of it. plus the whole, her hair was mostly just highlighted in the earliest seasons, and at times was lighter and darker through out the series kinda gives it away that the shades don't match the curtians. it actually bugs me when i read a fic and it trys to say that she's a natural blonde.
thanks everyone for your input,

Nope, I've seen too many hi-res pics of her at premieres with the bright flash and all - and she doesn't wear contacts. I've worn contacts half my life, so I know when they're worn close up, and colored contacts for brown eyes are obviously fake when you're close up. They just can't make them look like real irises. You can see a lens float on the eye, and also, the colored part of a colored contact can't change size like your pupil and iris do.

In dim light, her eyes are more brown. In sunlight, her eyes are more green. I also read an interview where she was pissed off that another magazine had changed her eye color on the cover to blue. She was all "They're hazel green, damnit!" And they talked about how it was bad enough that they photoshop everything, but couldn't they leave her eye color alone?! Also have to remember that the eye shadows and clothes we wear alter our eye colors, too.

You couldn't tell most of the cast's true eye color unless they were in sunlight on the show - the light is just too dark, so the pupil is dilated. I didn't know James had blue eyes until I saw a photo taken for a shoot, close up.

I knew Sarah was a brunette before I watched the show, from the teen soap "Swan's Crossing" she did, so there was no mystery about the blonde color. Though, her natural color is lighter than really dark brunette. She dyed her hair black before her audition for Buffy, as she thought it was a goth show, and then they had to take her blonde. She's mentioned that it took years to get all the black out of her hair, since they weren't going to pour bleach over her whole head. ;)

Also with Hazel eyes...they "change" depending on what the person is wearing...can vary from green to brown or even a sort of bluish hint all because of the color worn near the face.  Many in my family have hazel eyes like hers.

Just chiming in - most of this has been said already.

Many, many people start out life as blonds and their hair darkens as they get older. Often when they hit puberty - which is also the time girls, especially, begin  to play with highlights, etc.  As a one-time dark-blond child who began to highlight her then quite dark hair when in her early teens - I can tell you that highlights can get away from you pretty quickly and suddenly, poof! you're blond!  Really blond children generally end up with mousy or medium brown hair as teenagers and adults. Rarely would someone who was very blond as a child end up with dark brown hair as an adult. I believe that is what probably happened with Sarah, who's natural color is probably not really dark brown.  Buffy, on the other hand, is pictured as a very fair child, so I would expect her adult color to be more of a faded blond that she tints or highlights as the spirit moves her. Very dark hair requires a lot of bleaching to make it blond, and then toner must be applied to give it the shade desired. (Trust me, I wasted too many years of my life when younger doing  this.)  However, mousy blond hair or medium brown (or, as my father called it when referring to my mother and sister, "dishwater blond") hair can be easily lightened with many of the products now out there without having to be stripped first and/or damaged.

As someone already said (CM, I think?), some eye shades can change based on the colors around them. Blue/gray eyes can appear more one shade than the other based on eyeshadow, shirt color, etc.  Hazel eyes would be even more prone to being affected by make-up and clothing as they contain so many possible shades already.

Ah, yes, both my parents were rarities - both pale blond as children, that changed at age 13, and ended up dark brown to black. My hair was always brown, but continued darkening until I was 15, where it was almost black. It grows out dark brown with some reddish and blond hairs mixed in, now, though the underside is still near-black. Also reached my curliest in my teens, which has relaxed a bit again.
