Backup - Jim Butcher's new book

Thomas fans - We talked about this a while ago.  I just got the book from the library.  It's a very short story (70 pages) from Thomas' point of view.  He saves his brother from the Big Bad etc.  I was looking forward to a nice fat Harry Dresden.  The Thomas as main character works out fine, but Butcher totally throws this away.  Grrr.  Maybe the publishers wanted to test the water with the Thomas MC, but it makes no sense to me.  Save your Santa money for a nice tape of James doing the narration on one of the other Harry Dresden's books.
If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who?

I've read it, too, and I thought it was a good short story, worth it for Thomas' POV. If you were expecting a normal-length Dresden Files book, then you must have missed the advertising for it, since it was always called a novelette (it's listed under "short stories" on Butcher's website). Yeah, I'd have loved a longer story, but I didn't feel gipped or anything because it was short. I knew it was going to be a quick read.
Writing should feel easy, like a monkey driving a speed boat.
