BSV Forum - Support - Error Messages Maybe a waste of time, but... Mar 13 2009 01:29 am #1slaymesoftly Okay, Always had the bright idea that maybe browers used were making the difference between who could and who couldn't post. Hence my earlier testing posts using Explorer, Safari and Firefox. Unfortunately, apparently the verse is very slow again tonight, so I got no text up with any of them. I was able to delete them, though. Go figure. :) However, just it case it was the slowness that made the difference, how about hearing from you about which browsers you use? Maybe we can find a commonality between the ones that were working (or those that were not working). Worth a shot, although we probably won't be able to really test it until it gets over this slow stuff again. Let us know which browser you normally use to post here, please. And, if you've tried more than one, let us know that too. Thanks. 1 Mar 13 2009 01:35 am #2Scarlet Ibis In the past, I'd used Firefox because IE was unbearably slow. Then Firefox became a problem earlier this year, so I switched to Flock. I haven't tried to upload my updates on IE, but if that'll make a difference, I'll try that. ETA: I just tried it on IE, and it still didn't work... 1 Mar 13 2009 02:34 am #3slaymesoftly Yeah, it's cranky tonight, no matter what is being used. I'll try my experiment again when it seems to be working for me. 1 I am on IE and the site is slow - but I have been having major problems with my system and thought this was a personal problem - One thing I am learning about myself is that if I had to use the old dial up system I would never have become a devoted Internet user - How are the personal sites of our writers working? The Crypt is a little slower than usual but not much - 1 Mar 13 2009 03:33 am #5TammyDevil666 Not IE, it hates me. I just recently started using Safari, but I mostly post in Firefox because it's faster and mine seem to be going through fine. 1 Mar 13 2009 08:20 am #6Always_jbj So the two known Firefox users (Tammy and Patti) are able to post... anyone else using Firefox? 1 Mar 13 2009 12:48 pm #7goldenusagi I use Firefox and I can't edit chapters. I can't even edit the "non-blank" chapters, the ones that are still showing up. Though I do mean "edit." I haven't tried deleting chapters (don't want to yet), or posting a new story. 1 Mar 13 2009 01:47 pm #8Guest It would be good to know which version of Firefox, as they have released 3 patches, at least, in the past year. CM Mar 13 2009 10:35 pm #10Spikez_tart Hi Slay - great minds think alike, I was just wondering if this was a Bill Gates nasty. I tried Opera on my hubbie's computer and it didn't work either. IE has a new version so I'm go to install and see if that makes a difference. Probably won't get to this until tomorrow night. 1 I'm on Firefox - not sure what version, though I only started using it in December '08 - and I think I'm one of the few who's not had problems. Aside from the review function not working for a few days on the first chapter, I've had no issues aside from occasional site slowness. Though, having said that, I did use IE to make that HTML tool thing work, but the actual posting of chapters happened in Firefox. 1 Mar 15 2009 02:24 am #13Spikez_tart Slay - I updated IE and also tested on a doc using RTF format, which I hadn't been using because I had problems. What's interesting is the text shows up on the preview, but not once it's submitted. The other components - title, ratings, etc. all get saved and appear. It looks like there's a problem with saving the text??? The site is working about a thousand times faster than before. 1 Mar 16 2009 12:10 pm #14Spikez_tart Slay - is it possible the permission to post setting needs to be reset for certain authors??? It seems to work up to the point where you actually post. 1 Mar 16 2009 10:20 pm #15slaymesoftly I'm not sure how to check that, Tart. Once you're validated, we don't see or have anything to do with your posts or permissions. I'll look into it, though. It's worth a try. Since I could, and now I can't; and since one of the times it would even let me paste the text into the box, I'm gonna guess it's "no", but I'll look into it. ETA I don't see anything to indicate you are no longer a validated author; and therefore, no way to revalidate you unless I take you off the validated list, let it sit for a bit, and then try revalidating you. Are you up for that? It might be a good test; although, based on what's been going on over the past several days, I don't think anybody is getting through now. I've had nothing in the queue with text, and none of my tests have worked, nor has the chapter I tried to post. If it's working for anyone right now, I don't know who it would be. 1 Mar 17 2009 01:35 am #16Spikez_tart The thought of re-posting all those stories makes me want to hurl. I accidentally deleted four chapters of one story and that makes me want to hurl. It is working for some people, isn't it? I just tried bringing down my ZoneAlarm virus checker whoois to see if that was interfereing, but no. 1 Mar 17 2009 01:59 am #17slaymesoftly I don't think you'd have to repost them - taking you off auto wouldn't delete your fics, just mean that new ones would to into the validation queue instead of going right up. But let's not take a chance. As far as I can tell, no one is able to post anything right now - even those of us who could post a week or so ago. Nothing that has come through the validation queue has had text, and nothing that I've checked on in the updates list has contained text, so I think that whole function is...non-functional...right now. It seems to have slowed down again, too; although, that could be a weather issue with my satellite. I have no idea where Dia is in her negotiations with the hosting company. Just crossing my fingers and checking several times a day to see if we're back in business. 1 Mar 17 2009 02:01 am #18Spikez_tart Tell Dia I would be happy to put on my MEAN LAWYER face. Maybe not. 1 | |||
