Some of you are having trouble editing chapters, that's a permission problem on the server, I need to know which chapters/stories have those problems to be able to fix it. If you run across this problem, please post a link to the chapter in question in this thread and I'll fix it.

This does not apply for empty chapters where the content disappeared due to the trouble we've had. Those chapters are empty because the txt-files are missing, an edit works by opening those files and changing the content, it does not work if the file doesn't exist. In those cases don't post the link, delete the chapter and re-post it instead of editing.

I'm assuming you wrote this before you got my email explaining what's going on here?   I'll try editing my test post from yesterday, but I'm not hopeful...

Yeah, I did. You might wanna give it another try now though, write permission in the fic folders was disabled, changed it back and it works fine for me now.

I've edited my missing chaps (at least the ones I know were missing) and they worked...and I posted the first chap of my new fic and it worked too. Yay, Dia! *cheers*

I have tried editing the chapters of my storied from the newest, Death With (posted 12/5/08) to the oldest, Drawn By Their Heart's Passion (posted 4/407) and they do not work. I think that's what people are referring to, rather than the stories with blank text for their updated chapters. (Or, at least that's what I was referring to, anyway.)

We seem to be having some chaps/fics posting twice... it's happened to me, Patti and Eowyn--could it be connected to the fact that the site is running really slowly sometimes?

I'm having a problem editing chapters (ones with text, not blank ones).  I can't edit anything on Sideways.

And uh, I really hope it's a story problem on the permissions, not a chapter problem, because I have quite a few chapters I need to edit.

Can the chapters that didn't post right be deleted rather than edited?

As far as I know, Maryperk, they can be deleted and reposted - but I don't know what that does to their order. You might end up with chpt 5 coming at the end instead of after ch 4.

This is maybe related, maybe not, but I've been deleting and reposting all my fics that were lost, and every time I post, instead of it going back to the "Manage my stories" page, I get a blank white screen, like there was an error loading. The site reloads just fine when I refresh, and seems to be working with no delays otherwise, but every time I post a story - white screen. At first, I thought it wasn't posting, which is why my stuff was coming up twice - because I'd go back and do it again, thinking the post wasn't going through. It seems that it is, it's just not bringing me back to the site when it's done and I have to refresh to see the new fic.

ETA: Also apparently happening with forum posts, since it just did it again. *g* Though I've posted on the forum the past few days and haven't had any trouble, but the fic thing has been almost a week.

*nods* I'm not sure how much the blank screen has to do with the server (or some other confusing internet/computer thing) but it has done that to me occasionally forever. To the point that I've learned (mostly) not to believe the blank screen or the "Bad Response from Server" message that sometimes accompanies it.  I usually check the home page before I think about reposting the chapter, the validated fic or whatever, as nine times out of ten, it has gone up.  Since the box that shows me I'm loading isn't even showing that this page is fully loaded, even though I'm writing on it, I'm going to guess that this is going to show "not loaded" also.
