Next Episode?

Oct 15 2009 02:36 am   #1nmcil
Are we going to discuss "Beer Bad" or do we want to go on to "Wild At Heart" - maybe do both at the same time?

Would we like to discuss some of the AtS episodes?  or the Angel Season 5?

Definitely do Beer Bad--I need to find out if anyone has anything positive to say about the episode and maybe try to redeem it for me!!!

Beer bad has spawned quite a few fics. I'd call that redeeming. :) Unfortunately, I don't know what they all are or where they are, but once we have our tag system up and running, we might be able to resolve that.  They generally involve a drunk, cave-buffy encountering Spike somewhere with predictable results. :)  Zoeygrace wrote a cute one called "Boy Smell Nice" which she probably took down when she took down her other fics. But, she asked for a sequel, so I did one called Boy Good which takes up where Zoe's left off.  Wish I could remember at least the authors of the others I've read, but I'm drawing a blank. Maybe they'll come to me...

If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who?

The one positive thing I can think of about this episode (besides the spawned fanfiction) is that Buffy finally stops being whiny and beats Parker upside the head (Cave Buffy has sense it seems, while normal Buffy was a moron). But that's about all the episode is good for.

My preference is discuss all the episode - and it has been a while since I saw this one - will also check out the FF stories - might be fun to see how the series was connected with the FF works -

Anyway, we have to include  the ending of the Buffy-Parker arc -

Even though it needs a crapload of reworking...

*raises hand*

"Come with Me" starts with that ep.  Except Spike drinks the beer too.

I must say I'm not sure an entire thread should be dedicated to that one ep, cause I don't know what could be said about it that hasn't been said here :P  But yes, Beer!Buffy has more sense in slapping Parker upside the head with a blunt object.  Pfft.  He wasn't all that...

I am going to go ahead and start the thread for "Beer Bad" - I actually had a chance to watch it today and it does end the Parker arc, but so many of Buffy's men issues are still going to be carried over with her onto the Riley "Normal Joe" - plus it also sets up all the stuff with Willow and her control issues as well as Giles and Xander and Spike coming in as an important regular part of the series.  Love how Riley has that "kinda blue" line and how the future romance between Buffy and Riley is referenced in such old fashioned phrases like "courted" and "bethrothed" used to foreshadow "Something Blue."  Plus the themes of emotional and physical human needs that continue throughout the season , also are introduced.

It would be an added interesting part of this discussion to have some of the writers that did their story based on this episode to join and episode discussion and talk a little about how their own stories evolved from the original.

I look forward to reading some of the works listed here -

These all sound like the wonderful -  Sorry if I forgot anyone other stories from the thread - Post your story if you have a Beer Bad and beyond work -

Thanks for the boost, nmcil.

I always loved Beer Bad because Buffy's not in a funk, she gets to run around being silly, she throws a fire extinguisher into the fire, she does cave drawings and chair spins, walks with a goofy limp and best of all gets to clunk Parker on the head.

Since the first night Buffy drinks the bad beer, the effects really haven't worn off the next day, I decided the effects of the second night would last a little longer.  Spike has been out of town chasing after his ring, so naturally, he has to come back early run into her and pull a trick while she's drunk.  I also got to bring back one of my favorite vampires, Sunday.  In retrospect, I should probably have kept Buffy in a drugged up stupor even longer, but I guess that's another story.

If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who?

I never loved "Beer Bad," but I never hated it either.

I don't know--one day, I got this idea in my head to do a cross over fiction--a cross over of episodes, I mean.  "Harsh Light of Day" and "Beer Bad," in which both Buffy and Spike drink the magically tainted beer...and yada yada yada, Buffy gets knocked up.  Yes, it's a baby fic.  Well, more like pregnancy fic because it takes place during season four and she doesn't have the kid until...

I pretty much alter the outcome of season four entirely, with a few season five surprises.  It's one of my earlier ones (though not so early that I want to cover my face and hide), but I remember having a really good time writing it.  I think that's also the last time I ever wrote out some kind of outline for a fic (more like bullet points what was going to happen down the line...).  Also, the ending was a surprise for me--wrote it on a whim.  But I suppose that can be said about nearly all my fics...but I mean, it came on a whim as in, I woke up one morning and bam!

--there the ending was, just a waitin' to be written.

Okay, I've officially contributed mindless dribble to this thread.  I blame sleep deprivation.

I am reading the different FF Beer Bad stories now - nice to see the different approaches.

since this episode is the major transition to the Riley-Buffy relationship plus the introduction of Spike as a contrast figure to Riley - what are you thoughts on the reasons for Spike being given the role of "romantic partner" instead of Riley?  Did this signal that Riley was not going to be the "long haul guy" as Spike calls it?

For the first half--I don't think that was Spike's purpose.

For the second half--I'm not sure I fully understand the question.  Given the role of "romantic partner" in "Beer Bad"?  In s4?  If either, again, I don't think he was ;)  Spike's purpose in s4 was to sit there and say, "You're a dumbass, Buffy, and you're gonna die."  That was the gist of it, anyway.

Riley can't be the long haul guy cause he's BORING.  Man, what girl could wake up next to that dufus every day and not reach for a sharp pointed object.  In writer speak - Buffy and Riley are really too much alike.  She's in college and he's in college.  She is a (supposedly) secret Slayer of vampires and He's in a secret organization that kills vampires. She's in the sun and he's in the sun (psychologically).  No sparks there.  Also, Buffy's in love with death and Riley is never going to get that.  Spike's the man.

Oh - I forgot.  Anyone interested in talking about the crossover episode  In the Dark?

I would very much like to discuss  AtS - or some suggested episodes -

One for sure that we should discuss is "I Will Remember You" as well as In The Dark
