WHAT THE BLEEDING HELL IS GOING ON?

Apr 21 2010 10:02 pm   #1Purrfect
Okay.. Im a lurker. I lurk. Its my thing. So um.. hey everyone!

Ive never been interested in the BTVS comics, so I didnt really look at the "Big bad Twilight" topic :P.
The "Waning of the Spuffy heart" topic got my interest though. I am kinda freaking out. I dont feel like reading 13594748389 posts to understand what kinda Bangel shit is going on right now, so please, could anyone just simplify things for me a bit and tell me?

I would be eternally grateful.

Long story short - in the latest issue of the comics (#34), we learn that the season-long big bad (and he's been very bad) is actually Angel. And that he and Buffy have gained superpowers and are destined to begin a new race. They're F***** (as it's called in the comic) is tearing the world apart and causing death and destruction. Which is all okay because they're now gods. Giles has some lame explanation for what's going on that completely destroys the slayer mythos that we already learned during season 7.  However, there is still a good bit to go in the series, so we can't be sure that Joss isn't going to pull something less icky and hero -destroying out of this. We just have to wait and see.  Spike will make an appearance at some point. That's all we know right now.  Enough?

Purr - don't lurk come out and play.  Nice kitty.
If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who?

Another lurker de-lurking here. Never read the comic but I actually did read those 13594748389 posts mentioned in the first post. I don't dislike Angel; I just prefer him to be at least a hundred miles away from Buffy, so I have a request regarding the events in issue 34. This fandom has so many excellent writers ... please, someone, fix this? We need post-Twilight reunion fic. We need Buffy-comes-to-her-senses fic. We need Spike-picks-up-the-pieces fic.

Because, really, if Buffy or Angel or both are possessed or bespelled or acting under any other kind of compulsion, what is the emotional fallout going to be? I wouldn't want to be either one of them the morning after. (And if Spike is going to be showing up soon, I hope that he didn't have to witness any part of the fuckfest in space, even from a distance.) The idea that this stuff is canonical is bizarre and I can only think that Joss drank some really, really bad koolaid - but I have every faith that the fan writers will manage to make it better. Please make it better.

I'd take that even further and say start at the begining and go from there. As fasr as I'm concerned, the whole thing has been a train wreck that sould be fixed. It might be an impossible task, but I'm sure someone out there could do it.

Oh, thirded! There are many excellent ficlets on LJ based on the comics- I wonder if someone has a rec list? But I'd love to see longfic (or at least a lengthy oneshot) on post-Twilight comics.

Two of my favorites:

Post #33, by LJ Usera2zmom, a Bangel shipper. It's that awesome. :)
Fly the Friendly Skies

Post #34, by our very own LJ Userslaymesoftly- it's labelled as crack, but is actually far less cracktastic than canon right now...which I guess makes it crack? Anyway...
Crackity Crack

@Niori: Two excellent fics have been doing that, actually- Sosa Lola's "Strangers" (on this site), and LJ UserAngearia's Thought You Should Know. Personally, I'd rather a fic that started right now, since I need some therapeutic relief from what's just happened. :D

Hee! Thanks coalitiongirl. I was just about to pimp my ficlet, but you did it for me.  Rahirah has a very short, drabble-type ficlet that is excellent (duh!) but not Spuffy specifically. It's quite angsty. You can find it here: rahirah.livejournal.com/448407.html#cutid1  (http://rahirah.livejournal.com/448407.html#cutid1)

I suspect we will see more and more season 8 fics as people find things they want to fix.  The problem will be (speaking as a writer) that the season has been all over the place and it's difficult to get a starting point. I can't imagine trying to stay "in canon" while writing in this season.  But then, who would want to? *g*

Great story Slayme.  Laughing at the pathetic Angel.  :)
If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who?

Thanks, tart. It just had to be written.  It's more of a defense of Buffy than it is a Spuffy. One of the  things that has most upset people is that the comics turned Buffy into a weak, "oh, you big handsome man" kind of girl instead of the independent hero that she is. This was my response. Our Buffy doesn't do what she supposed to do just because some prophecy says she will. And she isn't likely to fly around having loud, destructive sex with Angel if it's going to destroy the world she's fought so hard to save. Not to mention, I don't see her forgetting all those dead slayers...  So, yeah. Sayonara, Angel

The "therapeutic relief" concept was basically what I had in mind. The fics mentioned are both great, and I've been enjoying them, and I love the ficlets - but I need to get this lingering nasty #34 aftertaste out of my brain. To mix metaphors quite painfully, denial works best when the elephant isn't sitting front and center in the room. Issue #34 has been the subject of so much reaction and discussion, it's all but impossible to completely ignore it. But not, I think, impossible to fix. At least, I hope not. I want my Spuffy back.

Slayme, your little story makes much more sense than what's going on.

CG. I've read about half of Though You Should Know and enjoyed it. While stories starting at the now point would be a great, but there are so many things I despise about the comics, that I still would be left wanting. lol. Frankly, from the first one I have issues, so it would take a major overhaul to make me enjoy season 8.

I don't see her forgetting all those dead slayers - me either.  Maybe our randy little Buffy just wanted to get laid and now that she's regained her senses she'll shove a stake thru Angel's heart.
If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who?
Apr 22 2010 04:01 am   #15slaymesoftly
*nods* There's really no romance, no mention of love or love making anywhere in the whole porny issue. I'd say Buffy got thoroughly laid and now is off to save the world and find someone she actually is in love with.  I mean, except for Satsu, it's been a long time between lovers for Buffy... she was due for some fun. :)

Or you could do what I'm doing, Purr.  I am sticking my head in the sand like an ostrich and pretending that the comics don't even exist!!!!  To me the real stories and characters ended when the show went off the air.  End of show--end of canon.  The comics are nothing more than really bad fanfic that got published to make Joss money. The fanfic characters and plots at bsv are much better, so I'm sticking with those!

Ostrich 2 here -- though I have to confess I've lurked at little on the other threads in the vain hope of seeing something to be happy about.  It sounds like it's more of a different take on the slayer mythos that they've vaguely based on the characters from the series -- or is it better than that?

Aww, I was going to make an account because of that comment you made Spikez_Tart, but for some reason I dont get the activation link in my spam folder or anything. Ive actually tried three times. Whatever, I`ll just be all mysterious and cool and simply write "Purr" at the end of my posts, lol.

To my fellow lurker: Ive read those posts now too, and its a really interesting discussion (Im gonna join soooon..) . I just kinda freaked out when I read about a Bangel reunion and wanted to get an answer as fast as I could.

Sensei, I completely agree! I love your ostrich idea. I dont read comics at all, and certainly not the suckish BTVS s 8 ones, but the idea of there being Bangel in the offical "Buffy season 8"  comics just makes me really mad.

Some people just need to wrap their mind around the fact that BANGEL. IS. OVER.      !!!!!

What comic?  There are comics?  Nope as far as I am concerned the entire series ended with one nice long slow SPUFFY kiss.

Nothing that any comic book says (or any Angel episodes say) can ever convince me otherwise.

Buffy may have gone off to Rome but as soon as Spike wasn't ghostly anymore he followed her and the kissed just outside of the Colliseum.

Off to live in my fantasy world.  Which is only possible with many of the great writers on this site.

There is that information about the shooting scripts that had Angel turn human at the end of season one - apparently that was a potential ending if the series had not been renewed -
there is a discussion of it at LJ - sorry I don't have the link - perhaps someone knows where it is taking place and can post info for us.

It's HERE, but I can't imagine that they'd do that now. Too much has happened for them to change their precious "forbidden love" into something so mundane. (Although Angel was standing in sunlight- and flying pretty close to the sun- of late... :shrugs: I'm waiting for my next crack!fic fix of S8 with little hope for anything that makes sense to happen.
