I read this fic a long long time ago.  It was very dark.  Angelous claimed buffy and was holding her against her will.  Spike was helping angelous.  It was about breaking her and exploring how someonecould love their captive after that.  Sorry that's all I remember except that is was pretty dark and created a controversy around these parts : )

Was it Fallen Angels by ZoeGrace?  Angelus fools everyone into believing he is still Angel, and he claims Buffy.  He makes her pretend around the Scoobies that nothing's wrong.  Spike comes onto the scene, but I don't think the Scoobies knew about him.  

ZoeGrace has taken down her Spuffy fic, unfortunately, to focus on original fiction. :(  But her original fic is a good read, too.  Check out her profile here on BSV -  she says that you can ask her for a copy of her Spuffy fic.

In many cases, it's because the fanfics are being reworked and sold as original fiction. Which is obviously not going to work if the same story, with different character names, is available for free elsewhere.  And, in other cases, although the author may use a "pen" name for fanfic, many readers know his/her real name. Sometimes, the real name and the pen name are not all that different.  It would just be too easy for the writer to be "outed" as a fanfic writer whose stories are available other places. Makes sense?
