Spike in the Comic Book Seasons

What are your thoughts on the treatment and storylines for Spike in Buffy Season 9.

What do you think of the latest Angel & Faith issue 19 and how the writer has gone with another round of "dumbing down" Spike - I think this is the worst case of disdain and turning Spike into a idiotic blockhead in the service of Angel's story.

Me too, and judging by what I've read about the comics on this forum I'm really glad I never started.

I stopped reading them right back after the Satsu incident. I had begun having doubts as soon as it came out that they'd robbed a bank. The painfully honest Buffy I knew from the show would never sanction that, even if she had grown up and matured. Then after Buffy slept with Satsu, knowing that Satsu had genuine feelings for her that she didn't return, and then deliberately sent her off out of the way, was when I finally accepted that the writers had no intention of keeping the characters anything like the ones we knew from the show.

From subsequent discussions of the comic plots here and elsewhere, I'm glad that I stopped reading. It has kept my interest focused on the TV series and the characters that I grew to love, rather than the unrecognisable caricatures they have apparently become.
Love's a funny thing...

I have to agree. As soon as I heard about Buffy sleeping with a newbie slayer I knew I wouldn't be purchasing the comics. Buffy never showed any attraction towards the female persuasion. To have her sleep with a girl (a teenage girl at that) who was under her command made me sick. To add insult to injury the girl had feelings towards Buffy made it even worse for me. Add bank robbery to the mix and they lost a fan. Even if Buffy had been gay it would have still made me sick. The comics writers had her take advantage of a subordinate, a young girl and then ship her off afterwards that is not the Buffy we know. The Buffy we know had a code of honor. She seems to have lost it between season 7 and season 8.

Even for a show about the super natural the comics have gone into the absurd. I'll stick to the TV show. I don't recognize the characters in the comics. They aren't the characters I fell in love with.

I am keeping up with the comics books simply because I started reading them and I was so missing my beloved Buffyverse that I just took whatever I could get.   Been doing some rewatach of specific episodes for our discussion over at Buffytube - we decided to watch the episode that Robin Sachs was in - and it's sad to see what Joss Whedon and Dark Horse have done with the Buffyverse.  Poor Spike, after this latest A&F issue and how the writer gave us Spikebuffoon I almost wish that he would just disappear from the series.  If this latest portrayal of Spike is any indication of the esteem that Dark Horse has for Spike, I would be happy to see Spike and Illyria head out together on some mission only to return in a future mini or some 2 issue adventures.  Maybe Spike could return to be an important player in a limited arc and then go off again on his own - because it was painful to see what Christos Gage did with the character.

LOL - after that issue I spent a lot of hours reading some excellent Spuffy stories - I have not even picked up my comic books yet - only read my digital copy.
