Retro Giles May 30 2007 10:50 pm #1FetchingMadScientist Okay- I need some help. In the episode, "Band Candy" Giles becomes a teenager again. I think he was sixteen or so. What I need help with is,what year was it? 1970 what? I was a baby in the early seventies, so I don't know. Joyce talks about Juice Newton. What year was she top of the chart? I'm asking because I'm writing a flashback where Rupert Giles is ten years old, and I don't want to get the date wrong. Please help. May 31 2007 07:42 pm #4pfeifferpack Juice Newton's Angel of the Morning (her biggest hit) was in 1981 (it went to #4, thank you Google). Yes, Tony Head was born in 1954 so they tend to make that Giles' birthyear too but it has never been truly established in canon. Then again Juice Newton was the comment from Joyce and she was likely younger than Giles. If you google for the albumns that Giles played it will give you an idea of his timeline. I think some transcripts list the songs.
Kathleen hope that helped Jun 01 2007 03:13 am #5Spikez_tart OKAY Pfeffer. Hold your face out so I can slap you silly. Marianne Faithfull (I think) recorded Angel in the Morning in the mid 1960's. Who cares about Juice Newton! Not Retro Giles. If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who? And Giles looked a bit younger than Tony was at the time, so you have to take that in account for the estimation, as well. I think looking at the majority of his record collection is probably the best bet. What If I'm Not the Slayer? now updated with chapters 22 and 23. Jun 01 2007 04:02 pm #7FetchingMadScientist I looked up "The Who's" "Behind Blue Eyes" because I remember Giles singing it in a Buffy episode. And, I used it earlier in my story, so it's a reference point. The song came out in 1972, so that's the date I'm going to use. Thanks for the help. :) "Never a fetching mad scientist about when you need one." -Spike Jun 02 2007 02:27 am #8MadBrilliant I'm not sure this helps at all, but in Band Candy, the song Giles plays is "Tales of Brave Ulysess" by cream. came out in 1967 on the album Disreali Gears. bloody awesome ablum, even for me, who was born 17 years after it came out. same song he plays after joyce dies, you'll notice Added to the sum, I'm BEAUTIFUL in all my insecurities & WEAKNESSES & PITIFULNESS??... ~ James Marsters Jun 02 2007 03:30 am #9Scarlet Ibis Just thought I should point out- you don't have to have grown up in a certain time period to hear an "oldie" or what have you. Though you guys are probably right in your assesment of Giles age. However, if you want to determine Joyce's, who's surmised as being younger than Giles, check out her head stone in "The Weight of the World." They weren't in the ep vidcaps at Buffyworld, and in order to check, I'd have to take out my DVDs, and then I'd have to watch more than just that, and it wouldn't end for quite some time... Yup.
