Spike and Buffy as Parents

Jul 04 2007 01:13 pm   #1Guest

If Buffy and Spike could ever have a kid, how do you think they would be as parents. What actors or actresses do you think could play a child of theirs? I think Mischa Barton looks like she could have been a daughter of theirs.

I think Spike would end up great about it, and Buffy would have freak outs over every little thing. She'd be one of those nervous mothers that goes berzerk over a tiny knee scrape. Constantly overprotective, if her season 5 attitude towards Dawn is any indication. I think Spike would turn out to be the disciplinarian, though.

I think it would depend on if it was a girl or boy.  A girl would have Daddy Spike wrapped around her little finger.  I agree Buffy would be overprotective and not good at the discipline part.  She'd probably have to get out Joyce's parenting tapes.

If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who?
Jul 04 2007 06:01 pm   #4Eowyn315

I agree, I think Spike would be a great parent, especially if it were a girl. Except I think Buffy might end up being the disciplinarian, because a little girl would be able to get away with anything with Spike. Post-series Buffy would make a better parent than show Buffy - I think she would have matured enough, and without the burden of being the Slayer (she'd just be a Slayer), she'd probably do much better. Besides, Buffy was only 20 years old when she started taking care of Dawn... that's hardly enough experience to be a parent. Heck, I killed my pets when I was 20 (they were fish, it's okay), I can't imagine having a human to take care of.

I think that if it were a girl, Spike would defintely be the softie while Buffy would be the disciplinarian.  A little boy, Spike would be harder on his son, and Buffy would be all nurturing mother and whatnot.  As for who'd "play" the kid, I'd say a young Hayden Panettiere(?)- that chick from "Heroes" who doesn't, well, get injured/die or whatever.   An older girl (maybe an in the future fic or the kid travels back in time), I'd say Jessica Simpson cause she has the facial structure, and she isn't too tall, or too short, and seems to be a middle grown between the two appearance wise (though her face favors JM more with the jawline, etc.).

I'm going to take the less popular view and say that Buffy would be the better disciplinarian. Spike would be totally wrappable, boy or girl. He would be the cool dad that everyone wants, and Buffy would be stuck being the "mean" parent. However, when it came down to those "big" moments, like first broken heart, I see a boy or girl going to their respective same sex parent. And if you think Buffy was overprotective, picture Spike's daughter trying to date!

Remember, Spike has incredible insight; however, he sometimes forgets that 1)he's been dead for 120 years, and 2) his perspective is slightly skewed by being a vampire for the last 120 years, and doing pretty much what he wants to.

He'd be a great parent of a child/teen, but a baby would definitely take quite a bit of getting used to. Buffy would be just the opposite. She'd do wonderful in the baby/toddler years, but not so much the tween/teen. So, they balance each other out, but boy would it be a rough ride at first! We're talking back road of New Mexico rough. Pot holes, narrow lanes, and parts that have needed repair for decades. LOL

This is one of the reasons I am writing Future Imperfect - to explore exactly what would have happened to a child of theirs and to the "fat grandchildren" Buffy spoke to Angel about. Let me know what you think!

Likachigh giving shamless plug, lol. I would too!

I'm along the lines that they would balance each other out with the kids. I see Spike being apush over but only to a limit. I think this would be the only time that I like his soul, it would allow him to know and understand when to set boundries and limits, not letting his daughter/son run all over him. But, yeah, he's be the super cool parent and all their friends would love being around him and always hanging out at their house.

As for Buffy, I see her like me to a point. Very overprotective of baby number one. She would never let the little one out of her sight, making home made baby food (yesI did that, even made juice, all kinds, lol), cloth diapers, the ehole nine yards. I also see that if they had more kids, by number three she wouldn't be like that, it would be more like "you have siblings, they'll make you tough," lol. I also see Spike and Buffy's bond growing stronger as they grow and change with their children. at first I see them both lost and not having a clue as to taking care of a newborn, but learning as they go, both supporting each other all the way.

Now, my question. What kind of powers if any do you think the kids would have?

Jul 07 2007 08:27 am   #9Scarlet Ibis

Powers?  If it's Buffy and William, I'd say none.  Robin was the son of a slayer with no extra abilities- anyone can be trained to fight. If it's Spike, however, I definitely think that the baby would have some kind of vampiric strength and powers (maybe bumpies, feral, yellow eyes and/or fangs).  I think one of three could possibly have sensitivity to the sun, and maybe at some point needing blood or craving it.

Sorry Golden, it wasn’t meant as a plug for the story at all, just that the story gives my answers to the question without a long post. I didn’t realise you couldn’t mention your work on the forum. I won’t do it again. No one has to read the story if they haven’t already.

It would be Spike, since I can't see Buffy getting with William. With her being the slayer she needs someone who is her equal, a human just can't cut it.

Lilac, pretty sure GB was just kidding. Authors plug their own stories on the forum all the time! Feel free to mention anything you want. :) I'm sure readers will be glad for the suggestion.

And GB - I can see Buffy being overprotective, the way she was with Dawn (i.e. needing a babysitter when she's 15, not being allowed anywhere near demons or even research, etc.) but I don't see her doing the baby food or the cloth diapers, lol. That's too much work for Buffy - especially if she's still got her Slayer gig. I think her first priority for the child would be safety, but all the other stuff she'd take the easiest route.

And a big LOL to Irishrose - "And if you think Buffy was overprotective, picture Spike's daughter trying to date!" That poor child... Spike would probably threaten to bite anyone he didn't approve of, and scare away everyone else.

Writing should feel easy, like a monkey driving a speed boat.

Lilac, it's perfectly alright to mention your stories on the forum. I'm pretty sure GB was just teasing you... but regardless, you did nothing wrong, so please don't feel that you can't mention your fics in here!

Lilac - you should plug that story shamelessly - it's excellent!

The way Spike and Buffy treat Dawn is probably a good indicator of how they would treat their own kid.  Spike would treat the kid like an adult (with the occasional bad consequences - such as when he helps Dawn resurrect Joyce - whoa bad idea)  and be the cool dad (as above) and Buffy would be the one making sure the kid goes to school and therefore make herself very unpopular.

There's that lovely scene in Spike's crypt where he's telling Dawn a scary story and Buffy interrupts, so he has to make up a totally bogus ending.  Heh heh.

If we want her to be exactly she'll never be exactly I know the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone' who?

does anyone else think Tom Felton would work for a son of theirs?

Jul 08 2007 05:59 pm   #20Immortal Beloved

Scarlet, I've always thought that Ryan Phillipe would be cast as Buffy and Spike's son!  The blue eyes, the bone structure, the curly hair--all reminiscent of James.  You are not alone.

Okay, so as a non-writer, I've probably thought too much about this topic, but here's my take on things:

Buffy and Spike would have three kids: a girl, a boy, and another girl.  The oldest would be a girl named Anne.  Physically, she's the spitting image of her mother.  So, SMG would play her, but more like back in her "All My Children" Kendal days--dark hair, hazel eyes, kind of pudgier than the older SMG.  Personality wise, Anne's a carbon copy of Spike: cocky, headstrong, always gets into trouble, reckless, fiercely protective of her family, and probably a slayer.  Anne frustrates Buffy.  Spike tries to keep Anne in line, but, secretly, he loves her chutzpah :-)

Next, the boy: Will, Jr., played by Ryan Phillpe.  Physical traits: see above and add near-sighted.  Personality traits: Literally William, Jr.--shy, intelligent, bookish.  All of the girls think he's a hottie, but he's too oblivious to notice.  He’s a year or so younger than Anne.  No supernatural abilities per se, but a good fighter nonetheless.  Spike relates to Junior’s softer side, and teaches him to be a good man.  Buffy also loves the softer side of William because it reminds her of how Spike is with her.

The youngest girl: No clue what to name her.  Maybe Joy, or Emma, or something equally happy.  She's blonde, blue-eyed, short, 'cause let's face it--Buffy and Spike are not breeding basketball players :-P  She's peppy and bubbly.  Think Buffy pre-calling, but subtract the shallowness.  She's quite a bit younger than the other two (maybe 4 or 5 years), and, therefore, kind of sheltered from the things that go bump in the night.  She’s intelligent, and maybe good with research, but no better than say, Dawn, in a fight.  Witty and resourceful, but no brawn.  Joy/Emma is Daddy’s little girl, and Buffy is protective of her, encourages her to have the normal life that the rest of them don’t.  But I do think that Buffy would try to teach her to handle the inevitable sticky situations.

I see Buff being a loving, but no-nonsense kind of mother.  She’s the disciplinarian.  Spike is a do-what-your-mother-tells-you, go-ask-your-mother kind of father, but he tries to get Buffy to let the kids be kids.  He teaches Junior to respect women, and he’s waaaaaaaaay overprotective with his daughters when it comes to men.

I have no idea who Tom Felton is...

And Ryan Phillippe has hazel eyes ;)  But he is so... the perfect blend of Spike and William, and he plays cocky so well ("Cruel Intentions") and is just *hot.*

And I think that one of the girl kids could be *taller than* Buffy because of Spike, but not actually tall.

In response to GB's question about what sort of superpowers that Spuffy young'uns might possess, I gotta go with the head tilt. Can head tilts be considered a superpower, you may ask. I think they kind of work similar to a thrall--could *you* resist?--especially with the beautiful blue or green eyes their child is destined to have. Plus, Spike (well, JM actually) has definitely raised them to level of art.

E- I know *drool*

I think if I were to see the head tilt in person, well, I'd probably become immobile, among other things... and thus quite vulnerable.  Yes, a definite super power to any straight woman.  I don't know how they couldn't have put that in as an inadvertent thrall of some kind in canon, lol.
