The Immortal?

Sep 07 2007 08:13 pm   #1pattysky4

What was The Immortal?  Vampire?  Other?

I've done some research, but can't come up with a solid answer.  I appologize if the answer is blantantly obvious or has been discussed here before.

I am currently working on some fiction where he plays a small part.  I'm just trying to find out how to define him properly.

I don't know either, but "other" sure sounds more fun.   You could make him Duncan McCloud of the Clan McCloud.  Or a space alien, or a mummy.  Or if you wanted to be erudite, you could make him the second coming of Jesus Christ, and have Buffy's "relationship" to him signify a spiritual awakening in her.  That would solve all her spiritual dilemnas and daddy issues in one fell swoop!

I see him like one of the Dorian Gray's from The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. There'll be a painting of him somewhere and there will be a decoy to spill coffee over it and accidentally put a fist through it :D

I see him as an Immortal Asscrack, whos a womanizer and a cad, actually i think he would do'd anyone who strikes his fancy, man animal or plant.

Its not that i dont like him i do, and i love how he will be  pussypunched down to earth once he finds out what hes been shagging!

How bout: Judas Iskariot,  spinn the silver coins your way (ignore the prior movie dracula reference and just make it yours, cose WE KNOW buffyverse drac wasnt at the crucifiction of christ, hes too much of a sissy) making the Immortal a vamp would be a bit 'done that'. Have him immortal through some great wrongdoing or deed.

He's whatever you want.  I made him into the legendary Count St. Germaine *G*.  I think Hamilton and Eve were refered to as "immortals" on Angel and you could make him one of those too (since W&H were quite aware of him)....pretty open on that.  All we know is he's lived a very long time, is morally ambiguous and has a way with both the ladies and the fellas.

I would argue that we don't necessarily know he's morally ambiguous. Angel describes him as "may or may not be evil" - but Angel is hardly an unbiased opinion. I mean, other than seducing our heroes' women away from them, he hasn't actually done anything evil, and in fact actually did a decent bit of good by sending the demon head back to W&H.

I, like Angel, find it hard to believe that Buffy would be with a morally ambiguous guy. I mean, considering her past relationships, I would think she's learned that lesson pretty well by now.

Thanks everyone for your input.  I've written him as a vampire.  I don't know why I thought he was one?  I was thinking he was just an arrogant cuss who named himself  "The Immortal" and was only able to live up to that name because he stayed out of the way of slayers until he met Buffy and was more interested in being a "lover" than a fighter.  I guess it will still work seeing as he wasn't exactly defined by the writers.

It is more fun to think of him as an "other" and a lot could be done with him.

But he didn't just send the head back - he made fools of Spike and Angel all over town then sent it back at the last minute with a gloating note. The guy's a dick.

Either he has some kind of mojo over people that they aren't in full control, or he's evil *enough*, cuz there's not way Darla would be with him, otherwise. Dru, meh, but Darla was picky about *everything*. He had to have something that Angelus didn't.

As for Buffy, how do we know she's there completely by her own choice? We don't. Can't trust Andrew on the subject.....

What If I'm Not the Slayer? now updated with chapters 22 and 23.

It does seem that he has some kind of power/thrall.  I would like to think that Buffy is doing some undercover work and not really under his power.  That's how I it write in my fan fiction.

I was just not clear on what he was.  Still not really.  But he's gonna be a vampire in one of my fics by golly. : )

If anyone here doesnt mind a spoiler from official s8 then klick here, i promise its relevant  http://www.tvguide.com/special/buffy/images/buffy4.gif and http://www.tvguide.com/special/buffy/images/buffy5.gif  Extremely relevant. I know many people dont think official comics count, but this is Joss's original intention on that story development, and no matter how you choose to see the comic from thereon out, this is a fact i think we cant ignore. Since to him it was important or relevant enough to make clear on page 1

Thanks for putting those links up.  I don't plan to read the comics unless Spike is heavily featured.  I read many of the comics that came out with Spike in them.

Still doesn't say what the heck he is, though.  Or did I somehow miss that?  Makes sense that she's not really dating him.  That's what I thought all along.

Actually exactly who and what he is has not been clarifyed yet. Might never be to keep the air of mystery aound him.

Well, being a dick and being evil are two different things. :)

I don't plan to read the comics unless Spike is heavily featured.

Then you won't be interested in Buffy season 8, as Joss has said that he will leave Spike and Angel to their own adventures, since they belong to IDW, whereas Buffy season 8 comes from Dark Horse. You might want to check out Angel: After the Fall, though, since that's the "official" continuation of AtS, and as far as I know, Spike will be a major player. First issue comes out in October or November.

I think the Immortal does as he pleases, end of. Weather this means doing something very wrong/evil  it wouldnt matter to him, because he wishes so. I think what would make him evil in a true form ,  would be how he knows right from wrong, im sure, and he still wouldnt mind. If the Immortal so wishes :D besides he can never do anything wrong in anyones eyes with exception Spike and Angel, id love to see him really act it out with the real Buffy.
