Spike/Drusilla

I know we are all Spuffy fans, but I'm just wondering thoughts on Spike/Drusilla. Did she love him, or did she not? Some people say she did and that she let him go because she knew he was in love with Buffy, some people say she was a ho who couldn't love anyone.

That's not how you would treat someone you love.  I think she just wanted a pet, someone to take care of her.  Basically, I can't stand Drusilla.  I never understood what anyone could see in that psycho.  She's not even that attractive, but that could just be me.  I'm just glad she did leave him, we might have never gotten any Spuffy if she didn't.

When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.

I utterly adored Spike and Dru. Still do. They were fascinating together, had wonderful chemistry, and I think there was a very deep love between them. There was a mutual sense of maternalism, responsibility, and caring they seemed to have for each other. To be with someone for over 100+ years, you'd have to have very strong feelings .

Of course, when you add Angel into the mix, things become very complicated. He exerted a lot of power and control over her, and as damaged as she was, I don't think she was ever really able to step away from it. He had her pretty thoroughly conditioned.

I agree with you claw, but she was able to step away from spike and leave him for a chaos demon and cheat on him with some other demons too (? or am i getting the others mixed up with fanon lol) And she also seemed to function pretty well without either Angel or Spike. Yes, Angelus did a number on her, but I also believe that Dru is a brilliant woman, she is very smart and has lucid moments. I think she's played both of them when she needed/s to. That's why I love Drusilla.

But back to the question. Yes, I do think she loved Spike. Maybe not as deeply as he loved her but I think she did. I think he was the first man to every really love her besides her father, and take care of her, and I also think this is why she chose him that night. She could see what he was and would be.

I think she loved Spike, but I don't think she was IN LOVE with Spike.

She loved Spike as much as a vampire afflicted with severe dimentia could.  It was just hard for her to break away from Angelus. And later with the chaos demon, well, that's because she knew he was in love with the Slayer, and that it was going to destroy him.  When Darla came back and Angel was on the brink of becoming Angelus again, she came back because she thought she could save him--she desperately wanted to.  So yeah, I believe she did, and also agree with Always that perhaps she was not in love with him in the end.  But before...when she saw him, she knew that he was "the one."

I think Drusilla did love Spike, as much as she could love him. I think he was the one she saw as hers, the one who could protect her and cherish her and the one who would always be there for her, and that she knew she had to let him go.

I adore Spike and Dru together. Wonderful, fascinating couple. I think she did love him but she had a damaged mind. And of course she loved Angelus too but he was her sire, she was bound to be attached to him, just like Spike is attached to her and Darla to the Master.

I love Dru and I think she's great. I would have liked to see them together more. Loved the flashbacks when the family was together. Seems they all slept with each other at one point or another.

Should we go back to the other thread? lol... As far as I can remember, we don't know of any times that Drusilla specifically cheated on Spike prior to his deal with Buffy, except for Angelus. Angel says that "she really is just kind of fickle" - which may or may not be true. Remember that Angel hadn't seen Dru for almost a hundred years (most of Spike and Dru's relationship), so he might not know what they were like together.

After the deal with Buffy, Spike says "you take up with these creatures" as though there was more than just the chaos demon.

I think Dru definitely loved Spike, but not as much as Spike loved her.

Definitely, E.  True, she chose him because she thought he was special (or maybe she just knew he'd be devoted to her), but her soul purpose of making him was because technically, she was alone, and Darla and Angelus had each other.

That does sound like more than one. He was upset but yet he didn't seem overly angry. I would have expected him to kill the other demon but instead just told him to sod off.

Also think they're weren't together for the entire 100+ years. When Spike's on that submarine with Angel during WW2, he didn't seem concerned for where Dru was. Maybe they had breaks and also Dru can take of herself, there's no need for him to worry about her or for her to use him as only someone to take care of her.

but her soul purpose of making him was because technically, she was alone, and Darla and Angelus had each other.

But isn’t that the reason most vampires make other vamps? Loneliness or wanting minions. She choose him for a reason, just like Darla choose Angelus.

It was more of a companionship rather than making a minion. As for not being concerned about Dru when he was on the submarine, well, I think it's plausible she was with Darla. I don't see him being so nonchalant about her whereabouts unless she was being taken care of by someone else who was close by.

Yeah, I don't see Spike letting her go off alone if he can help it, though he could have just left her for the night to go that party. Doesn't fit the episode well to have him really Dru-focused, though, so I think they purposefully ignored it. They didn't want to show the devoted lover there.

I think Dru did love Spike, but I can't disregard the fact that Dru, more than anyone else in either series, is in touch with stuff beyond the here and now.  I think when Dru has her more lucid moments, she is closer to her vampire side, but when she's in the hold of a vision, she is closer to being who she was as a human.  I think maybe she saw something she couldn't turn away from on the night she turned Spike.

I always think of that "Ooh, now the King of Cups will have his picnic" comment in regards to her character.  That's not just babble.  I get the feeling that Dru can see much more than she lets on.

To that effect, I think she knew Spike would leave her eventually.  So, she did it before he really knew the truth himself.  In my theory or whatev, she knew she had to let him go onto his destiny, but her vampiric side was going to make sure that she hurt him a little in the process, just to save her own pride.
