It seems Buffy is terrified of giving Spike any crumbs by explaining away her kindness as practical necessity. Of course, false hope would be a bad thing for Spike!!
She is very afraid of giving away that she feels anything right now. Silly girl. But some actual hope might be nice for Spike :-) Thanks for reading!
