Listen to him read Proust and pretend to be interested?

Oh that hurt!  Spike really deserved a punch in the nose for that crack about giving Buffy a second go.

   zclvjhzxcljvhlzxjkvchlzjkxljk     - oh that
Can't really imagine Buffy as a Proust fan. lol

Yup, definitely agree with you on that. Spike sure can put his foot in his mouth, can't he? Well, at least he felt bad about it. That's a progress. :) Thank you for the lovely review!!! :D

Nawwwwww!
That right there is so unbelievably cute!
I dont really get what was so funny though, but that might be because im just thick. hahahahaha.
I would like some more to read, nowish please... meet my unpatient self.
xxx
*grins* I was definitely aiming for cuteness. And good for Buffy to seize the opportunity and get some Spike cuddles.
LOL! You're not thick, gorgeous. The funny is actually in chapter 10 (second part)- at least I hope you'll find it funny. ;)
Well, lucky you. I'm updating tonight actually, so you won't have to wait long for a new chapter. Thank you for the awesomeness!!! :D xxx

There's something about the scene with Spike and the cigarette that is just perfect. His thoughts, his confusion, tossing the cigarette out the window, it's a surprisingly visual sequence and it's utterly Spike.

But it's Buffy's epiphany about Angel that had me going "yes!!!!!!"  Great to see her have the courage to re-examine the relationship. Also a very interesting idea there, that she was clinging to the forever concept to be able to justify the cost of that relationship. That could be a valid interpretation in canon, too, although the canonical Buffy would never admit it, even to herself. Best line: "Listen to him read Proust and pretend to be interested?" *Snort*
Thank you! It's awesome to hear you say that (or more like read you thinking it lol). Him smoking with the window open so the room doesn't get polluted is IMO good way to 'show' rather than 'tell' that he cares about Buffy. Thinking of her comfort and sparing her lungs is subtle but undeniable proof he wants them to get along. :)

LOL! It was about time, wasn't it? Poor girl needs to move on and find someone who will actually make her happy instead of miserable all the time. What kind of love is that? I mean when you think about it, how long were they together exactly? I know they weren't in a relationship in S1, just Angel stalking her and giving vague clues. They sorta got together in S2 and it wasn't long before Buff slept with him. Now, if he hadn't turned evil, how long would they last? They had nothing in common. He's too controlling, too serious for someone as young as Buffy. I think it's beacuse of the misery and lives Buffy's next step (=sex) cost people around her that she convinced herself it had to be the love of her life. And probably a bit of the forbidden feel of it all since they can't be together because of hi cursed soul. And I'll be damned if I don't make this Buffy see it. She doesn't want to listen to Proust! *g* Thank you for the scrumptious review!!! :D

A demon Cary Grant? Now there is a strange image!! Although for such a brilliant actor I'm sure he would've played one exceptionally well! Thanks for mentioning one of my all time favourite actors in your story!! Extra marks for that!!! :)

Loved Buffy coming to Spike's rescue in nothing but a towel!! How it stayed up is beyond me, but then this is Buffy so it probably was too afraid not to stay up! I definitely have to agree with her "Eww". Just the image of demon blood splurting everywhere and Spike actually drinking it, I think my breakfast is trying to revisit the outer world!! I had to laugh at Spike thinking the demon "looked kinda familiar" and then when Buffy points out the resemblance to Cary Grant appears to agree that this was it. I'm sure there's a story there somewhere of when he met the wonderful Mr Grant!!

"Ah, Spike, you handsome beast, shag me senseless" *choke*, I think my family thinks I'm insane, laughing madly at a computer screen!! And the heightening tension in the scene that followed was a perfect contrast to the comedic beginning. The breaking point of course being the mention of Angel and having a "second go". Poor Spike certainly needs to control his foot-in-mouth disease. I can't blame Buffy for her heated "sometimes I really hate you", but I loved that she still couldn't quite get rid of the "attraction or misguided sympathy" despite him being such a pig.

In the scene where he tried to apologise and sits next to her on the bed, my sister started playing the piano and it was the music from Anne of Green Gables and it was just perfect for such an emotional scene, which you handled extremely well. You somehow manage to get right into the characters mind and heart and use that knowledge to create such a beautiful insight into their person that is a joy to read. I especially liked Spike smoking out the window, that boy can be such a gentleman when he wants to be.

Buffy's examination of her relationship with Angel and her realisation of the exact nature of it was certainly painful to behold. It is always hard to let go of childhood dreams and for Buffy it would've been twice as hard considering all the other dreams that she has had to leave behind since being called as the Slayer. She certainly needed Spike's unique brand of concern at this point, lighthearted but sincere, and I certainly don't blame her for seeking comfort in his arms. That girl needed a good hug and who better to give her one than Spike!!! Beautiful moment in all its hesitant gentleness.

Magnificent work once again & I look forward to the further developments in the Spuffy relationship (I adore the slow but intense stories - the anticipation adds a little something to the story, although it doesn't do my poor bloodpressure any good!!) ")
Hahaha, I bet he would! And hey, nobody knows... maybe Spike really killed the actual Cary Grant who is human only part-time and the other times he's a slimy demon. :D I'm glad you liked that though. Cary Grant is a classic, so it's awesome he's one of your favourites!

This cracked me up!! Now that I think about it, the towel is terrified to fall off. LOL But who knows? it might gather the courage eventually and decide to proclaim its inpendence. *g* Also, I'm deeply sorry for squicking you out during breakfast. My mind works in gross mysterious ways. But I can safel say there is nothing gross (I think) in the next chapter, and I promise you'll grin! If not, then I'm a massive failure. Oh, I bet there is a story behind Spike/Cary. :D

Haha, awesome! Don't worry, they might yo're insane but they're family so they probably won't put you in an asylum. ;) Spike really did let his mouth run ahead of his brain, but at least he felt bad about it and even tried to apologize. And it got us some nice epiphanies and a cute cuddly scene at the end, so it's not all gloom. *g* And Buffy can't help but like him still!

Oh, you sister plays piano? Wicked. I've always wanted to know how to play. :) I wish someone played me while I wrote... maybe I'd come up with something exceptionally clever. :D Actually, sometimes I listen to Rachmaninov when writing (Spike's dream at the hospital) but it's not the same as listening to live music. And you flatter me too much. :) It makes me very happy to know you think I get the characters well.

Letting go of someone she thought to be the love of her life and realising she might have been wrong was hard. Painful. With the way her life is still on shaky ground, the knowledge of 'one day we'll be happy together' was something to cling to. A flase belief though. First loves are important and they have an important place in everyone's lives but they rarely trascend into a long-term relationship that lasts until death. And she realised this. Good thing Spike was there to give her comfort. :)

Hee... you'll love the next chapter, I think. and I love that you love the slow build up! Thank you for the delicious review!!! :D
