Chapter: Chapter 41

that's a chilling little conversation Giles had with Spike.  shades of season seven.  I really hope you don't go there.  It seemed out of character for Giles to betray Buffy...  out of character after what happened in season 3 with the Cruciamentum, anyway.
It was meant to be shades of season 7. I want any developing friendship between Giles and Spike to feel real, and part of that journey is for them to actually trust each other - which means steps forward and steps back.

Most of Spike's "proving himself" happened from the very end of S5 onwards - it's very natural for that to feel new and not-quite-real.

I'm feeling very sorry for Dawn, she's being incredibly insightful and mature -- and is completely ignored by everyone, even Spike.  Nice interaction between Spike and Giles, very believable.
Thank you for liking that Spike-Giles interaction. I so want their relationship to be believable, and I spent a lot of time trying to get the tone just right.

Spike's not ignoring Dawn, (at least in my head), it's just two different and valid interpretations given different sets of information. I don't think healthy relationships are possible if one person is always trying to please the other. But Dawn knows that Buffy has always done that in previous relationships - Spike doesn't. What he sees is her letting him in. They're both sort of right.

Love seeing the relationships from Giles' POV. Poor chap, Spike does confound him so much!
Yes! Giles is worried and confused - not being mean. :)
