If the love spell by Cupid didn't fail, then it's just Buffy and her fear of love coming into play. Everytime I read or watch (the show) this type of reaction from Buffy, I just want to take everything away from her, namely Spike. Maybe Spike should wise up and leave Sunnydale like she keeps telling him to.
Perhaps then she would be able to admit she has feelings for him, but too late! Thanks for the update!
The love spell didn't fail per se, more like it has an expiration. I agree. Seeing how Buffy pushed him away time and time again, and him just sticking around was quite infuriating. However, that happens a lot. People who have trust issues take them out on the people who actually there. Strange, but it's true.
