Giles' attitude is totally believable after his unilateral decision not even to try to find help for Fred because of where they're working. He's also continuing the same lack of trust in Buffy's (and by extension Faith's) judgement that he exhibited in S7.
Good to see Buffy & Faith working together and sticking up for their vamps...
