He had to know, although the words remained unspoken. He had to be able to tell what she was feeling – he always could – , had to know the words she could not say.

I love you.

The words she would not say out of fear for tomorrow, for the future, for her own heart,

I love you.

He had to know though. He had to feel it in every gentle touch.

I love you.

In every tender look.

I need you.

In every soft kiss.

Don’t leave me.

He would understand, just like he always had. And when the time finally came when she could say the words out loud, he would already know the truth.

If only they could get through tomorrow.
