Request for avatars

Feb 02 2007 01:11 pm   #1Diabola

Ok, so the fact that new members don't seem to have a default avatar is my fault, I'll fix that. But I noticed that some of them don't change the link despite the "broken image" placeholder that keeps poping up, so I thought maybe I shouldn't have assumed that everyone will have appropiate pictures and the webspace to store them on.

I thought we could maybe help out a bit there, by putting together our own avatar-collection that will be stored on the BSV and can be used for the forum. Can't do it myself, cos I quite simply suck at graphics, but maybe some of you would be willing to contribute.

The avatars would have to be 100x100 in size, and can have the format .jpg, .png or .gif. While I guess that Spike or B/S pics will be a favorite with many users, you don't have to restrict yourself to those. Someone might be happy to use a kitty-pic or some scenery-image instead, who knows. Text is of course optional as well. Get wild!

I'd put them up on the bottom of the link-page, with a note who did which, and how to use them.

Any volunteers?

*raises hand* I'll contribute. I can even host them if needed since I already have a ton hosted up already.

Want the links or just a zip of the images themselves....however you want.

Thanks hon, that's awesome.

I was just gonna upload them to our webspace. That way we won't have to worry about changing addys or server-downtimes. (If the site itself is down, who cares about the avatars. )

You can post the links or send me the zip-file, or however you prefer. Doesn't really make a difference to me. :-)

Okey doke Dia...I've got a folder filled. If I zip it, you can open it right? I'll send it through your email. Just let me know if you can unzip files or if you'd rather I send you links.

Got them. Uploaded them and gave them their own section on the Support page. Announcement is up as well, and a ne link on the "edit your profile" page, that leads directly to the list. Those are fabulous Desi, I love them!

And now I'm gonna be odd cos, well, that's how I am. Do you by any chance have three more of those pretties? Arranging them in rows of four seemed like the best option, site-structure wise, but this way we have one poor icon sitting in a row all alone. I know I'm being silly, sorry about that.  Oh god, that really sounds stupid, maybe you should just ignore me. *headdesk*

LOL Nah...I have TONS. Making avatars for me takes little time since I'm kinda anal retentive about details. All images I think will make a good avatar, I put in a seperate folder and my Photoshop opens and closes kinda slowly as I have a TON of brushes/gradients/textures added and I change them out every couple of months or so, that way everything doesn't end up looking alike all the time.

I've also gotten quite a few tweaks and tricks down pat so I can open an image, crop it, recolour it, text it, decorate it all in about 10-15 minutes. Hardest thing for me is deciding what text if any and what masks/brushes to use *blush*

I lost all my brushes and stuff when I moved from the pc to this laptop, I need to redown load like ALL of them, lol. It takes me a while, cause I have to get the creative juices flowing to make some icons. Some come with ease were as a few others, well it takes some time, lol. My poor brain.

*grin*

I'm uploading all of my icons, banners and wallpapers to a shiny new photobucket account and as soon as I'm done, I'll load the info up here and everyone can take a walk about and snag whatever they'd like to snag.

Since there was a recent question regarding how to make avatars - I wanted to ask about using ones that I make myself - how can members use their own avatars?  Do we submit them (by 4 or 3 items) to the site moderators to be included on the site list?

Thanks for your help -

Nope, all you need is a site that hosts pics, like photobucket.com. You create an account upload your avatars, then you open your account here. At the bottom it will as for the http:// link or something like that for your image. Just enter the direct link from Photobucket and you'll have your avatar.

Nope, the ones on the list are for everyone to use. If you have one you simply want to use yourself, just upload it somewhere (photobucket or your own webspace or wherever) and put the image-link into the avatar field in your profile.

I know most forums and such allow you to upload images, but since free webspace for storing images and such is abundant nowadays, I didn't see the need to risk the site's security for that.

If you have a whole bunch of avatars and you want to allow everyone to use them, those I'll keep on the BSV webspace. Just email me the icons (if you zip them you can send quite a few at once) and don't forget to mention your username so I can credit you when I put them on the list.
