That was a really good read. You should check out a couple of other spuffy sites like Elysian Fields and Spuffy Realm. Both sites would benefit from an author as talented as you, and they are also more flexible on Spike being 'non-vamp' if that's your thing. Anyway, good luck with your writing. Hope to see more soon.

This story had many strengths, but the part I liked best was when one of the Powers said that they weren't "equipped for someone of Buffy's nature"!

Ack! I ... well, really, all I want to do is click the little arrows taking me to the next chapter because I need to find out what you've got planned. lol I'm more than a little worried about this plan Spike & co. have hatched. . . *bites lip*
I did like the little interlude with Buffy & Liam. I've never had a huge problem with Angel or anything, I don't like him with Buffy, obviously, but other than that, I really rather like him. It was nice to see him clearly not the guy for Buffy, but not a complete tool, which is how he's portrayed too often. And I thought the parallel between Melody's career as a police officer and Buffy's being the slayer was a nice touch.
Okay, clicking through to find out what's in store next... :)

Glad to hear that you are worried....all the right buttons being hit then! Yeah!!! :0) And you're right, Angel was never a horrible character, I was just never overly found of them together, he always struck me as just too old for her - which I know - sounds really strange. But I didn't think he was what she needed at that point in her life. I guess that's the beauty of fanfic! I can do whatever I want within reason! :0)

Everyone keeps asking Spike what he thinks he is doing but of course Spike thinks he is doing what is right for Buffy even if it is not right for him, oh our poor boy - on to the next chapter!
:0) I think that's one of the most striking aspects of his character and his humanity. Would someone evil do what's best for someone else, putting their own needs aside in the process? Man, I so hope you like the end! Now I'm nervous....!!! :0)

LOL - fixed it! Thanks for pointing it out so quickly! Sorry it's taken me so long, work has just been crazy busy! I remember when I was writing that conversation and it had sort of stalled and then it just clicked and I realised what the root of her jealousy was and that was a turning point for me and this story. That awareness sort of drove the rest of the fic right to its ending. How can she prove that she loves him as much?

If this site's sub-title wasn't "'Spuffy with Bite", I'd think Red and Spike were going to end up together. This is very suspenseful.
LOL - they are interesting together I'll say that. I've read a couple red/spike fics and they were fun.
Now my heart really goes out to Spike. He thinks in his heart that he is not enough for her or the rest of them. But as always he is putimg someone else first. I just hope that Willow will be able to get through to him now that the genie is officially put away.
Yeah, he does - but he does have enough of a history to back that feeling. Most of the time he wasn't good enough for her or the rest of them. it'll take time, luckily that's something he's got lots of...mind you, she doesn't, now does she? :0) Willow can talk to him until she's blue in the face, but man, the boy is stubborn when it comes to his Buffy!

That was sadly very clever of the Genie. Almost she had won Spike just because he wanted to do good things. That was very hard for him (and for Willow too). Very tempting.

I think that's pretty much what any power like that would do - play on our desires to please others that we love. I think, with his soul, he is essentially a good man with a bad past that he can't quite divest himself of that easily. As for the other problem, Willow is good for that one too! With a bit of help from her friends of course!
What a very powerful chapter, and now the proverbial cat is out of the bag. We all know Buffy doesn't want the wanker Angel, but poor Spike can't get that through poor head. I can hardly wait to see what you have in store for us.

I do feel for Sam. To have that big of a crush on someone and to KNOW that they will never feel that way about you. I am glad that he got a chance to have a conversation with her about it. But I hope it sticks. But really what will they do now that they have been caught? I can't wait to find out.
With Sam I sort of tried to capture what I think many women have felt at one point in their lives - unrequited love. I think it was DH Lawrence who wrote "that unrequited love doth kill the love that feeds it." It'll stick, but it'll take time. Thanks for reading and commenting!

I realized I forgot to comment/a question from a couple chapters back--- re: Buffy 'sharing the load (burden?)' among the other slayers now... Where's Faith?
And back to this chappie--- Spike was looking in a MIRROR at his reflection while getting dressing in his tuxedo? A reflection? Huh? Did I miss something? Whuh? 'Cos I thought specifically at the beginning that Willow couldn't see him in the Bar's barback mirror, just saw his 'aura' ??? Again, did I miss something? How is he able to see himself in a mirror? And, BTW, any respectable Victorian gentleman (even with a gentleman's gentleman on hand) knew any number of different ways to tie a cravat/necktie/bowtie... of course he did--- he lived through all the ties' various incarnations since the late 19th cent.

This is my favorite chapter so far. First off, I liked Spike's convo w/ Giles. Then, I liked his gentle flirting w/ Willow. Of course, it was also sad, with Buffy saying she might want a husband and babies - and obviously now Angel could give her children.

Good chapter. I liked the 'secret looks' Willow and Dawn both gave Spike. All magic can be dangerous - it's just a matter of weather what you want is worth the price or not.
Thank you so much. I loved writing the dialogue between Spike and Willow, it was fun building a relationship between the two of them. And I really like playing with all the relationships in a homey type situation. Reminds me of the early days of the show.

As others have already said, I have trouble seeing Dawn and Xander together, but I suppose after 10 years anything is possible, even Xander growing up and Dawn losing and taste in men she might have had. I have to say I'm disappointed since it looks like you're taking the easy way out and ignoring the repercussions of Dawn marrying Xander (refer to previous review). I expected more from you after you refused to just drop Buffy's relationship with the Immortal like so many other authors do.
Although you had Spike and Buffy discuss, at least somewhat, about her stint with the Immortal, the only conflict resolution you seem to be doing regarding Dawn and Xander was Dawn and Buffy silencing a few snarky comments. (In RL, the whole "drop it dear" thing only succeeds in delaying the inevitable and tends to just end up exacerbating the ensuing conflict.)
I hope I am just being overly critical and impatient due to my disappointment in Dawn and my loathing of Xander and you do have something planned in the coming chapters. I'm sorry to have disappointed you. My focus in this peice really was Spike and Buffy and I'll admit that the others are merely secondary characters. Dawn and Xander in particular are not favorites

I really liked how you handled their moment of reunion and dealing with the anger, pain, and disappointment that Spike held deep within himself about her affair with The Immortal. It has the quality of real life and real people having to deal with all that anger and pain before they can find peace and love.

O.K. Here's an idea. Maybe Xander is really, really,really good in bed. that's possible - I mean, he did have at least two sex-crazed lovers. That's the ONLY thing I can think that could possibly get Dawn to marry him.
Why would Dawn marry anyone? I mean, hello? She had spike and angel in her life: How could anyone compare to them enough to marry? LOL - and there was the reaction I was waiting for! It's hilarious - when I was writing it, it just seemed so normal of me to go there and I wanted the reaction on Spike's behalf. Yet it's getting such a reaction fro readers, I didn't realise that it was going to be that provocative!

Just got caught up. Great story, I'm loving it. Can't wait for the Immortal convo between B/S. Cause that was just so Wrong. And she does need to explain it to him. And here we have Dawn married to Xander,,eww. Unless he changed a whole lot, it's just horrible. Don't blame Spike for being pissed.

Okay, totally putting my revulsion against pairing Xander and "little Dawnie" together, I have to say that I am disappointed that Dawn would marry Xander, the one who had never really gotten over his crush on Buffy and ALWAYS had an outright HATRED of Spike dispite how much of a hypocrite it made him since he was with Anya (someone who did a hell of alot more evil than Spike, or even Angelus could have hope to accomplish).
Plus (although not explicited stated it's putting 2 + 2 together) there's the minor fact that Xander was the one who proudly spread the word about the "evil rapist" and convinced her hate her former best friend slash older brother. I always maintained that BOTH of them were at fault for everything that happened in Season 6.
Dawn was whiny but never a push over like Buffy was when it came to other trying to tell her how she should think or what she should do. She wasn't stupid either: Dawn had seen Spike's face and total lack of defensive wounds at the party and as soon as Dawn started seriously training in self defense, she'd figure out that something more had happened that what happened in Xander's story.
In the interim when Spike was in Africa, I always saw it as Buffy keeping silent about what all happened while Xander took it upon himself to "correct" (berate) the younger girl until Dawn finally "came around" to his views of Spike being nothing more than an evil monster.
After everything Spike had done for her, she owed him at least one conversation before she completely condemned him and was ready to light him on fire. But by the time Spike reappeared, Xander's persistence had paid off: Dawn hated absolutely Spike and wouldn't even talk to him except to threaten him. As Xander would put it "just the way she should."
I hate hypocrates, especially ones like Xander who forced, or at least try to force, their self-righteousness views onto others that they themselves don't even remotely follow (again Anya). Especially when Xander was ranting about something he knew nothing about. And I hope that Dawn would have be absolutely furious when she realized that Xander cheated her out of even talking to Spike before he died. I certainly wouldn't have a thing to do with him after I realized something like that.
(shakes head) I at least hope that you had Xander grow up a hell of alot before Dawn would have anything to do with him. Still, after seeing firsthand how badly Xander treated Anya I still don't see how Dawn would ever marry Xander.

Hi! Wow, there's a lot to address here and I'll try to do my best. In my opinion, I would like to think that all the characters have had a chance to grow up and move on after 10 years. Dawn drove me crazy in teh show, but that was mostly because she was being exactly what she was supposed to be, a
teenager. As for Xander, I always had a very difficult time with his relationship with Spike. Whether it was based on jealousy, a deep seated hatred, or a strange sense of familiarity, Xander was in some ways a complicated character who always reacted and dealt with things in a far too simple fashion. Like
many of these characters, he was his own worse ennemy. And I'd like to think that it was something
as simple as love which enabled him to see past Anya's past (something he wasn't able to do with Spike) and it was his own shortcomings as a human that caused him to do to her what he did. Anyway, I can only say that that's how I interpreted some of the character interactions and played with them,
in a way I thought might be realistic 10 years down the road.

Dis you have to bring up C. S. Lewis, then? That's exactly it! BtVS is like a post-modernist version of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The symbols obviously stand for different attributes. Certainly wouldn't say Red is the embodiment of Evil : D

Buffy is still just as repressed as ever, isn't she? Still bottling everything up. Spike should be able to crack the shell though... So you're not going with the comic canon that it was a 'stand-in' Buffy in Rome rather than the real thing? Until I learned that, I found it hard to credit she was with the Immortal so soon after losing Spike, but I decided it was an act of loss and desperation rather than of 'moving on' as Andrew tried to make them believe. Can't wait for more.....

Heh :) Spike is in love with an Ipod. Given time I think you would get 600 songs together.
And Spike got her to fight him, to fight back. After a year of non fighting it's a step in the right direction.

Mind now, I'm no expert, but from what I've seen of BBC and read in novels, the Brits don't havae the same aversion to men liking flowers as we do. All in all, a good chappie.

I really like how Spike is NOT letting the whole Immortal thing just slide. I hate reading fics where it's either dropped completely or is simply written off: it wasn't some drunken one night shag. Buffy was actually dating that piece of trash!

I agree. While i enjoyed the ep in Angel where this comes up because it was a fun ep, I didn't like the way the series dealt with it. I get that there were political network things going on, but I was left really unsatisfied with it. And in my fic, he's not done with this either - at some point - she explains what happened.

Yeah, I think seeing him melted that ice that had built up in her over those years since he'd died. I think crying can be cathartic and in this case, seeing him is the beginning of her healing process. But yeah, they have a ways to go yet!

I really have to say that this is one of my top Spuffy fics of all time. You write so beautifully, your characters sound so perfect along with their motions and intentions. I really like how Spike refused to go in the house, that was great, also great in a way that it will force Buffy out. I love the last line by Willow. That was excellent! I also really enjoyed the reunions with both Willow and Dawn. Not anticlimatic or overly dramatic. You have wonderful balance! I'm on the edge of my seat for the next chapter!

The Return of Martin Who?
Hey, I read that book, *and* saw the movie, dissected the hell outta it's sources and references & all, for the BA History's senior seminar when I was at university. And then there was also that (I think) Richard Gere/Jodie Foster Amer. Civil War era movie based on the same plot. As soon as I saw the title "... Martin Who?" I knew it was Martin Guerre. (And for the record, I always figured Martin's wife KNEW the 2d guy really wasn't Martin, 'cos suddenly she started getting way better lovin' than she'd ever gotten before! Don't blame her a bit for not ratting him out!) Can't wait to see how you draw this out! Somehow, I'll bet between Spike, Willow and Dawnie there's gonna be either some amazingly funny hijinx or one serious cock-up!

Yeap - 2014! That was one of the mistakes I made in the first draft of the story - made it 2009 and not enough time had past to allow me to do what I wanted with the story and their relationship, so I had do redo the math! Now, it's 2014 and hopefuly works better!
Really can't wait for more! You write Spike beautifully! I also like the french, and the fewer sunny days, and the 'Heroes' because Passions was canceled parts! I also like how everything is structured for the Slayers including how Buffy demands a report and talks to the younger slayer. That definitely reflects on the lost part of herself-being all professional. Hope the meeting with Spike doesn't end in dust! Kudos on a great fic! Update soon!

My beta and I had a laugh over the Hero/Lost thing. She wasn't as optimistic that the shows would still be around in 2014 but I figured at least Space would be showing reruns! :0) And no - the meeting does not end in dust. Ha! Being a native Florida gal, the ending to this chapter was pretty much my excuse for NOT moving to New York on scholarship for Fashion Design in the '80's. Nothing could make me brave *those* winters!!!

Wow! Would it be bad to say that I'm so glad you've got tears in your eyes!? I love that reaction! Sometimes, when you're writing and editing a story over and over again, you sort of gain too much distance and lose the emotional connection, so to read a comment like this is fantastic! Thank you so much! I'm glad my story is striking a chord!
