Yes! THAT is how Season 5 should've ended. The character of Dawn was completely useless (and insanely annoying) throughout Seasons 6 & 7. Thank you for the perfect
re-write!

This story is hands down one of the best I've ever read in the Buffy fandom. You have captured the emotinos so perfectly. It is absolutely heartbreaking and I feel as if I've been punched--definitely a quality of an excellent writer.

This made me so sad. They both loved her so much more than the rest and to lose not only her but the memories of her, well it was cruel of the monks to do that to them. Even a few memories to keep with them anything to remind them of someone they loved so much.

Very interesting concept.  I liked it even as it made me sad to see them lose their memories.

Nice job!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!

Oh my...I Loved this. I always thought that if Dawn died instead of Buffy then the memories would fade. My heart aches for her.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Very poignant.  It makes a lot of sense that the spell would wipe out its influence as cleanly as it appeared.
Thank you! I thought it was an interesting consequence... I'm glad you liked it!

It's been  long time since a fanfic made me cry. This one did it.
Thank you for writing and sharing.

angst, terribly painful angst.  but well written angst.  I think forgetting is the worst thing we can do to someone's memory, but sometimes we have no power to stop it.
Thank you! It's such a double-edged sword - forgetting Dawn gives her reprieve from her grief, but she'll also never have the good memories to hold on to. And worst of all, she won't even know what she's missing.

You made me sob like a loon!! Poor Dawn, vanishing like that. I wonder if that's how Joss was gonna play it if Dawn died. It'll be too heartbreaking.
Heh, you know, after I recced these fics, when I discovered you = lusciousxander, I wasn't sure if you'd read them already. :) I'm glad you enjoyed it, even if I made you cry. (Who am I kidding? I was trying to make you cry, lol.) Thanks for the review!

There was this chill, at the end of the story, that ran all the way through my spine, through my arms, through my heart. I needed to close my mind and just, sigh.

I just thought you might want to know.
Wow, that's awesome. It makes me kinda tingly to know that's the kind of reaction the story evokes. :) Thank you for commenting!

Wow. Thankyou... wonderful... That was unbelievably haunting. I don't know if you were going for a deeper and more personal meaning about life and death, but it made me think... "well at least we got the memories"... only... They don't...

Very sad and very touching.
Thank you! I don't think the deeper meaning was on my mind when I was writing, but sometimes things just come up that you weren't looking for. Writing's cool that way. I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed the story!

This was very sad, but at the same time, it's nice to read something without a happy ending, for once. I was hoping that there would be something.. maybe she'd write a diary while she still remembered (a fitting homage to Dawn, as well).. but in the end, she just forgot. And that doesn't leave me with happy tinglies, but it's real and it's sad. That's very powerful.
Thanks for the review! I definitely wasn't going for the happy ending on this one. :)

Sad and beautiful at the same time. It's nice to see Dawn as the hero and not the spoiled, whiny brat. I always felt her character had the potential to be much more than what was portrayed on the show. Thanks for sharing this awesome story with us. I can't wait to read more of your stories. :)
Thanks! It's a shame that Dawn had to die to have some good character development, though. I'm glad you enjoyed the story!

Your writing in this fic is as beautiful as ever! I could truly feel Buffy's pain. Am I the only one though, who was happy to see Dawn and all memories of her gone? I'm just saying, lol.
Thanks for the review! It seems like most people were sorry to see Dawn's death play out like that. I liked her for the most part, and it's sad to see Buffy suffer this way.

This is really interesting. First, so much of the time we see Dawn as a problem - a whiny brat to be rescued - that it's refreshing to view her as a hero *and* the catalyst for Buffy and Spike's romance.

But more than that, I love the way you've detailed the forgetting. It's almost hypnotic. That last bit, with the notepaper, is especially heartbreaking!
I always knew Dawn had the potential to be more than whiny... sad, though, that she had to die to do it. I'm so glad you enjoyed the story - thanks for the review!

Oh I feel sorry for them all, losing Dawn really hurt her then the forgetting.

I hope some day she will find it in her heart to forgive and move on.
Well, she won't really remember what it is she needs to forgive... maybe that's good, maybe it's just sad.

This is so beautifully sad. It reminds me of a film called Memento in some ways. With the idea that when people die there will be nothing left of them, its always comforting to think they'll be remembered, but Dawn won't...
Thanks! I've seen Memento, great movie. It's got that same disorienting feeling that I'm sure Buffy must feel - only remembering bits and pieces and not being able to put them together.

What a fascinating idea; the slow, steady fading of someone who really never existed. I wonder what Buffy will remember as the reason why she quit slaying.
Thank you! That's a good question, what Buffy will remember. That could probably be a whole other story...

What a unique, creative twist on Dawn's death. I bet Joss is kicking himself for not thinking of it first! And you played the emotions of the readers so well-we were happy Buffy and Spike got together but heartbroken at the same time as they slowly lost Dawn. Great job!
Well, it would've been a convenient way for Joss to pretend Dawn never happened. :) I'm glad you liked it!

Oh wow that's so very sad. You know, I never really thought about what would have happened if Dawn had jumped instead of Buffy. Very intriguing! I look forward to more...
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it, but this is the end. You'll have to imagine the rest. :)

Ebbing of the Tide
That was... well, I'm not sure I have words for what that was. I always find stories where Dawn dies to be interesting because I feel like that would've made more sense than Buffy's death and resurrection. But the idea that Buffy would leave and give up her calling is heart wrenching. Sadness and hopelessness all wrapped in beauty. Great job!
It does feel like it makes more sense for Dawn to die. It closes a circle, sort of - the one who was never supposed to exist ultimately ceases to. I'm so glad you liked the story!

Awwww, Dawn. How very sad. It does seem like a possibility, that she would just disappear from existence if she'd been destroyed. A very bittersweet piece. No one should ever forget such a brave girl.

wow...this is intense, and beautiful, and so unique...don't know if i've ever read anything quite like it...excellent work, love, i cant wait to see where you take this...will there be more?
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it, but this is it. Even though technically it's a Spuffy pairing, the story is really about Buffy and Dawn's relationship, and once that's gone, it ought to be the end of the story that's being told. I'll leave it to you to imagine what Buffy and Spike's life was like after that. :)

Very, very touching.

Personally, Iwould have prefered the final scene being Buffy waking up to find a tape with a note saying "Play Me". When she does, it is herself and Spike talking, telling her, "You had a sister named Dawn. She gave her life up to save the world. Never forget that."

Ala Forty First Dates, with Adam Sandler.
Well, I guess Buffy never saw that movie. Personally, I'd rather write something original than rip off an Adam Sandler movie.

"...forcing down the sinking feeling that she’s lost something precious."

Wow, E. Very original. I've seen fics that had Dawn die in Buffy's place, but never one where the spell is broken and everyone forgets her. Very bittersweet. Buffy misses Dawn, but she doesn't know that it's her that she misses.
Thanks, IB! I'm glad you liked it.
