If they can get past the bathroom disaster, they can beat anything or anyone.

Oh, very sweet moment of honesty from Buffy to Dawn. It's very fitting for there to be a tender 'moment' of forgiveness in the bathroom. That horrible 'my eyes are clear' bit on the landing in 'First date' wasn't nearly enough. It was the perfect opportunity for the writers to give them an affectionate moment of reconciliation, but all they could do was add to the awkwardness. Bad writers.
Slap on the wrist for the naughty writers... But then, there were so many moments they could have made that much better on the show, but they went for the angst and the awkwardness instead. :-( Thank you for reading!

I think they needed this encounter in the bathroom to sort that last bit out (although it will never leave them totally). The last thing they need at this point is to have Xander outside the door jumping on Spike as if it HAD been a repeat of the other time. She needs to remember that as vile as what happened there was she did things equal in damage spread out over their time together.
Glad Dawn is in on it already and okay with everything. Hope she and Spike can now return to their relationship too.

They definitely needed something like this to clear that last bit of tension about their past. And Spike needed the forgiveness - even if not in words. This chapter was great to write, although a little scary taking them back to the badness. Fluff will make it all better! :-) Thanks as always for your great feedback, Kathleen.
