It's been a few days since I'd had a chance to read this & I was as startled as Spike to see the face of the vengeancedemon. Good chapter!

Thank you! I spent most of S6 wanting to hit her over the head with a brick, so I really wanted her to learn something.

This:
“It’s all dark with you, isn’t it?”
“Is it?”
And this:
“I want...”
“To be enfolded, cherished, loved. Who doesn’t?”
“Not you.”
“What do you know about me? But I’ve never had it and I never will. One takes what one gets.”
Excellent way to show that interior Spike is not the same as exterior Spike, even back in the Big Bad incarnation, and that Buffy doesn't really know how deep he goes.
Oh! And now we really get to the fallout! I guess the distant spell Tara sensed was the one that folded the old Spike into their time? Interesting!

Great chapter.
I like how at ease the two of them are getting with each other. They had an honest to God convo after sex (though, wasn't the most plesant topic). I think that happened in the series, what? Once.
The point you make about Buffy rejecting gentleness is spot on. Which is oh so sad. And she really needs to take responsibility- it's not SSpike's fault she wants him. Sleeping with him is as much her choice as it is his, and until she sees that she's never going to get out of her depression.
And yay! Got her to admitt she didn't want to die.
Also good to see how Spike's feelings are changing- if he really didn't give a damn about her, he'd have let the demon thingie kill her.
And I never understood why Tara or Willow never paid rent. What, did they not pay bills those months Buffy was dead? You think they would have offered.
Oh, the vengence demon is back. Wonder what's gonna happen now.

Willow and Tara should have offered. After all, there Buffy was leaving college and trying to find a job for minimum wage. They knew she needed it. My impression was that they paid the bills when Buffy was dead out of Joyce's saving - there was no indication they ever shelled out. And why on earth didn't Child Services not go after Hank Summers for child support for Dawn instead of just threatening to take her away? A few holes there.

Oh no! What happened!? Did he get sent back!? Bummer!! Just when she had decided to live. Poor Spike. Always going to end up falling for her it seems.
It wouldn't be Spike if he didn't love Buffy. :D
