Wow!

I am really not fond of the Buffy/Angel pairing, so I was hesitant to start this fic when Buffy seemed to fragile and in love with Angel--but now I'm really glad I continued. You're doing a great job with the characters's thoughts and feelings, and how Buffy and Spike are reacting to each other as people, who know the same pain, first but without losing the awareness of the other as a vampire or slayer.

I absolutely loved this chapter and thought the descriptive writing throughout, even just a line about Spike's eyes, was fantastic and gave the reader a lot of insight into that moment's reaction, feeling, doubt, decision. The kiss they were both drawn into at the end was very nice, though I do get the feeling something more was going on than just the two of them. Was Spike looking at something on the ground, or when his gaze traveled up, up, up to meet Buffy's was he just checking her out?

This is a very interesting story and a time of shared heartbreak for Buffy and Spike to meet, and I look forward to seeing how you handle it.
I'm glad you gave this a shot despite your reservations, and thanks for the feedback about the descriptions and emotions.  It's important to me to know when I've done something that works or something that doesn't.

To answer your question, really Spike was just taking notice of Buffy, maybe not so much "checking her out", but more just one of those moments when you suddenly see somebody a little differently.  Heartache bad, Slayer pretty, perhaps?

Thanks for hanging in there and I hope you continue to enjoy it.
